I've not heard of Vile Rat before today, I saw a bunch of messages on Twitter and had to google to get some details.

The first result struck a cord with me. We see these sorts of things on TV and they seem so far away.
I never knew Vile Rat, but in the time I've played EVE, I've flown with people that do.

I've amassed many many friends on EVE, the caliber of that I couldn't imagine waking up one day, and them not being there.

My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to those fortunate enough to have known Vile Rat, and mostly to the family he has left behind.

Ah crap :(

Only ever had one convo with him, wish I had got to work with him more.

Tragic, just....tragic.

RIP.

That's just not fair :C

I only ever new the name, never (knowingly) met the man himself, athough you never know who you run into at fanfest.

Fly safe Vile Rat o7

In addition, I'd like to raise the ideas both of a memorial of some kind for VR, and PLEX for Vile Rat's family.

I hate to drag us into base finance, but losing a family member like that can be devastating financially. Surely we can help?
Ishtar Starfire: As a pure caldari pilot i feel that with the deployment of the new tier 3 battlecruisers you have given an unfair advantage to everyone except caldari pilots. an example would be like giving a fat kid a whole cake while the skinny kid has to watch and get nothing.

Having dealt with Vile Rat a few times in my Internet Spaceship "career", I always found him to be a pleasant, fair and knowledgeable person.

He will be sorely missed by Goons, the CFC as a whole, and the HBC along with many of our mortal enemies in game.

My thoughts go out to his family, his friends and his co-workers. I'd like to propose that we request that CCP honour him in-game in some fashion. His dedication to the game, and to improving the way that we play can never be stated enough

Sean "Vile Rat" Smith

Requiescat in pace

Something should be done both ingame and IRL, so that he may live on in New Eden and so that his family will feel the outpouring of love from a community that, by all reports, he loved and was in turn loved by.

Yestetday I read one of VRs posts. Today I wake up to find out he was murdered.

I can't say I knew the guy but he always seemed like one of the good ones. I can't imagine how his friends and family must feel but my condolences go out to you.

RIP Vile Rat.

He played for fun, and made this community a much better place.
He worked for money, and made his country and a troubled foreign state a much better place.

It's always a tragedy to see special people like him go away.

He will be remembered and deeply missed.

R.I.P. among the stars.

"Vile Rat" was a name you could mention in any conversation about the pointy end of EVE, without needing to explain who he was. He wasn't a figurehead or a whipping boy, he didn't have a gimmick - he was just a guy who'd accrued enough respect to be noticed.
