What is 'scanning down anomalies'?

I was reading a thread over in the Science and Industry forum about a person who wanted alternate ways from Mining to make ISK.

One person suggested this
Quote:
"Skill for tengu and go hunt anomalies. You can do 100-120M per hour in medium skilled tengu. Farm the anoms for a while and invest the money in manufacturing."

Could someone explain what this is exactly? It sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Almost like exploring around (something I'd like to get into at some point)

Also, if anyone would like to give me a list of skills and skill levels I'd need to get to being a 'medium skilled' tengu pilot, that would be wonderful.

So, thanks in advance, and here's hoping I finally do some flying other than just resubbing and learning more Industry skills, haha. :)

For that amount of ISK, they would probably have been talking about nullsec anomalies.

Anomalies are the green diamonds that you sometimes see in space when you enter a new system. No skills needed to find them, just have the onboard scanner open and they show up automatically.

They're fairly close to worthless in highsec, no idea about lowsec, very good ISK in deeper nullsec (from the bounties)

Nothing special about the Tengu, it's not an iWin ship, it's popular mostly because it's easy to fly and strong for what it is. It's also going to cost half a billion of so for the hull and subsystems, more to pimp it out to be really effective.

Oh. Nullsec... Yeah. I don't have any friends and I'm not part of any Corp, so I think I'll just avoid that.

Darn. Sounded like a fun way to make ISK.

Hello.

The thing I meant in that post was .... this one particular setup works only in one anomaly on one rat type, so it is highly profiled ratting, but it is possible. Now it is a bit harder, since Fountain is war zone, but 2 months ago it was easily done.

This is the fitting I use :

[Tengu]

[Subsystems]
Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst

[High Slots]
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II - Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile

[Med Slots]
Small Shield Booster II
Target Painter II
Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II
Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II
10MN Afterburner II
Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II

[Low Slots]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

[Rigs]
Medium Bay Loading Accelerator II
Medium Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I

It cost around 500 mil. You can invest another 60 mil to implants which gives you around 10% more damage.

The skills needed .... well, check the skills to use this fittings. In theory you can exchange every item with T1 version and slowly move towards getting the T2 ... but expect worse performance :)

Your advantage is that you are small and fast, so you don't need so much of tank on the setup I described. You have "only" 29 km range, but you are orbiting every ship at 8km range at 650 m/s speed, so your tank never goes under 99% shield.

You NEED to be cap stable, so the 2 skills for capacitor capacity and recharge rate from engineering at lvl 4 is a must. And I think those are only skills that are necessary to fly this. Of course once you can fly it, you can work on maxing the skills .... like skilling those missiles support skills for more dmg, upgrading target painter, upgrading afterburner and navagiaton

Also as I mentioned in the email, if you do not wanna focus on this biggest yield way of shooting rats in tengu (means shooting Forsaken Hubs in Serpentis space) you can allways try different fittings for different rats.

And in that case, you should probably go for Heavy Missiles, and not Heavy assault missiles. They have lower dps, but bigger range. Because ... if you have short range and you have to fly to the next spawns, it takes time and lowers your profit per hour :)

You don't need any friends or a corp to go explore down in null sec. Just that Tengu and a cov ops cloak will do.

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.

Needs a cloak or he wont make it halfway. Would stay a mile away from that fit at all times. And you use alt to scan down your sites?

Didn't he say anoms? What you need an alt for?

Don't think he really knows what he is asking for since he didn't know his trip would lead him to null. So figured he might want to do some data sites while there. At least keep his options open with his fit. Flying an uncloaked Tengu into Null to do anomalies will end up losing you a lot more money and SP then it will gain.
