Dual boxing on dual monitors?

Author

Okay, simple question. I have x2 1080p monitors. I want one client on each without the stupid window bar up at the top stealing real estate. How is this accomplished?

Both fixed window and Fullscreen default to monitor #1 without any obvious way to move them?

You know that you can just shift the window slightly up and most of the bar vanishes with only a small border remaining. Not perfect but much better. I do not know if the eve launcher tool can get rid of the border completely. Haven't tried yet.

If you wanna check launcher tool (http://eve.grismar.net/evelauncher/), let me know if it works Lol

-copy your eve folder
-put a second Eve.exe-link to your desktop (and name it diffrently)
-assign diffrent screens to each installation
-put the client in the size you want it to in windowed mode
-switch it to fixed mode

- later copy your settingsfolder to have same settings on both clients

The advantage of the new installation will also be, that you only need to enter your alts account name and don't need to switch it all the time.

Have fun!

  • Copy your Eve folder
  • Place a new exe on your desktop
  • Assign your second screen to the second Eve client
  • Choose which size you want in windowed mode (eve fullscreen works, it may look crippled in the forst moment)
  • put your clients into fixed-window mode
  • both of your screens will now be full with Eve and you can switch between them

You will need to import your settings and stuff. Advantage is too, that you will only need to enter your alts-account name to your second client and not switch them all the time.

You can copy as much clients as you have space on your harddisk. For each you may run in windowed mode and 1024*768 to move cynoalts n stuff.

Also, you might want to change the behavior of the Windows mouse.

  • Go to Control Panel >
  • Ease of Access (Accessibility) options
  • 'Change how your Mouse Works'
  • Check - 'Activate a Window by Hovering Over it with the Mouse

That way, all you have to do is move your cursor to the second game window, and it will automatically highlight it (after ~400ms), without having to click so many times. Mind that this will work on every window on the OS, takes some getting used to, but it's really worth it in EVE.

Thanks for the replies. I will give copying the .exe file solution a shot.

how do you assign montiors to each install?

Copying the client is most certainly the easiest way to get set up, but it will mean wasted space on your hard drive (though this usually isn't really an issue these days) and the need to patch twice every time (which can become an issue if you are on a limited bandwidth plan). You can find further instructions how to create multiple instances of the EVE client, each using their own settings but still effectively only using one installation requiring patching, in the following article on the EVElopedia:

You can work round this by unchecking the "clean up downloaded data" after the completion of patching your first client - the rest of your clients (well for me) dont need to download again - just remember to leave it checked after patching your last client

i run 3 clients over 2 (extended desktop) monitors from one installation, mostly without issue. but these past few days have been very laggy after about an hour of gameplay. cleared the cache but it hasn't helped. running latest ati graphic drivers. posted in this thread as it's related.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

edit: solved by disabling aero (on 32bit vista).

Just got a new comp that can actually handle running more than one account.....

question (prolly ignorant on my part), after making a copy of my eve folder, where do I find the settings and stuff to import?

running win7

EVE Default directories can be found here:

There is another problem with copying the directory instead of just running the clients off the same one.

A lot of value added clients, trading programs and such read the cache. If you copy the client, you'll also have to copy the other clients too.

I really don't see any advantage at all over copying the files. Except that you don't have to change the username when logging on. Such a minor bonus for all the disadvantages.

i take my last edit back. disabling aero hasn't solved it. today it was laggier than ever before. tried 3 times. just closed the windows in the end. i'll play something else.

Just an update. I found a program that does it for you, a lot easier then installing two separate eve clients.

Its called "ShiftWindow", and it has an eve setting. You just open both clients and tell the program which screen you want each instance to run on. No borders or anything, super simple.

I have the same problem, after a while the clients locks up, or almost locks up, getting worse and worse. This didn't happen a few months ago. It works ok for 30mins-2hours then it starts and i have to shut down the clients, (which take some time) and restart the computer. Not sure if I really need to restart the computer, but I got the impression the problem does not come back as quickly if I do.

Anyone knows what have changed, and if any fix is awailable?

Btw: All Eve graphics settings are low/disabled, windows are set up for best performance and cpu throttling is off. Actually I didn't have to do any of this before and I don't think it has helped)

There are dual monitor applications out there such as DisplayFusion that allows you to move a window any type from one monitor to the other at the press of customizeable key combination.

Just google it :) im sure there are some free options as well.

what about adding some command lines to the executable, it saves duping EVE and a lot of time

/resolution=x*y
/GPU=2
/monitor=3
/screen=windowed

sound, detail, ect.ect. basically any option in the graphics and audio Big smile
