Jackdaw for HighSec Exploration

Greetings all,

I'm an almost new player and recently I fell in love with exploration.

Yet one thing I dont' like is the need to switch everytime betweeen combat and scanner ships that limits the systems i could scan.

What I want to do is getting a ship that can both scan, hack and fight decently, all in HighSec (I'm not a PvP guy - yet).
Not interested in minmaxing isk/hour, efficiency or similar, fun is the primary objective.

I know Soe ships like Astero or Stratios fill this niche, but I've read they're easily target for gank, they are pricey and I don't have the skill to fly them (I'm almost Caldari only).

Right now I'm eligibile to train Caldari Tactical Destroyers, and I've read the jackdaw has a bonus to fit scanners, enough mid slots to fit relic and data analyzer and it's cheap enough I can buy another one if I lose it.

I've played with eft to find a decent fitting and this is the result.

[Jackdaw, HighSec Explorer 0.1]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

1MN Afterburner II
Medium Shield Booster II
Cap Recharger II
EM Ward Amplifier II
Data Analyzer I
Relic Analyzer I

Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Core Scanner Probe I
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Light Missile

Small Core Defense Field Purger II
Small Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard II
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

EM ward is to cover the missing resistance.
I'm not sure a DCU II could be better than a BCS.

So, could this fitting let me roam in HighSec exploring decently?

There is no combat involved in exploration.

Let me be more specific: I want to do exploration AND it's results like Combat Sites and DED complexes that, as I understand, you can find doing exploration. :)

Looks alright. The purger is doing exactly **** all for you; swap that for more cap maybe? That or damage application; you're lacking a bit there. Frankly damage is kind of anemic to start with but that's a Jackdaw for you.

If it were mine I think I'd do this:

[Jackdaw, HighSec Explorer 0.1 revised]

Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Missile Guidance Enhancer II

1MN Afterburner II
Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
EM Ward Amplifier II
Data Analyzer I

Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Core Scanner Probe I
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile

Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

The booster isn't cheap but it really, really makes the fit work.

Whoa! The booster costs more than the hull itself, I'm not sure i can afford it right now.

Thanks for the very useful imputs Zhillia!

Furione remember the Jackdaw now has 3 lows and only 5 mid slots. Zhilias fit has the correct layout.

Yeah thanks I've noticed it, it seems eft isn't updated with the last relase.
I'm looking for an alternative fitting tool other than pyfa (that won't work for me)

Thank you!

Unluckily also this one has the old jackdaw layout (2 lows, 6 mids)

Pyfa is updated. I still prefer EFT when it's accurate, but pyfa is slowly becoming my default.

And yeah, the booster alone ends up being 40% of the fitted ship's cost. It's also the cheapest deadspace small right now. A medium deadspace can do interesting things though:

[Jackdaw, HighSec Explorer 0.1 revised MSB]

Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Missile Guidance Enhancer II

1MN Afterburner II
Pithum C-Type Medium Shield Booster
Cap Recharger II
EM Ward Amplifier II
Data Analyzer I

Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Core Scanner Probe I
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile

Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

That guy is only 25mil, about half the small B-type. Larger boosts, less stable but you're still looking at 3 minutes all out.

You could also fit a buffer tank with 2x medium regolith shield extenders or one medium and one small if another medium doesn't fit.

In the long run, you still want an Astero for that. You can do DED 1-3 with her and the Stratios 4-5 or 6 even. I would suggest a different ship for DED 6-10 though.

This one is definitely more affordable for me, thank you very much for thew tips!

Elitatwo I will eventually end on one of the soe ships, but I need the skills to fly them decently (almost zero drone/gallente skills)

If you want to hack AND do combat sites, I'd go with a Tengu before a Jackdaw. You can toss out a mobile depot and swap subsystems and modules on a whim so you are always running with hull bonuses regardless of what you are doing. In high sec you won't need all the bling so your Tengu shouldn't be a loot pinata either. T2 fittings are more than enough.

So while yes, the T3D's are excellent probing platforms, if you want to squeeze the maximum versatility out of one ship....the T3 cruisers are your best bet.

Also- consider laser boats especially if you are hauling around a mobile depot and spare modules. Even the T2 and faction crystals last so long as to be a negligible cost and they take up very little cargo space- leaving more for your depot, modules, subsystems, and of course....loot.

All that said, the Stratios does all that plus warps cloaked without having to swap a subsystem. I don't think they are particularly hot gank targets, being fairly hard to catch in the first place. If your ship has a cloak, use it- even in high sec. Use insta-undocks- even in high sec. (maybe especially in high sec Shocked)

TL:DR- T3 cruiser with mobile depot or Stratios is my suggestion. The T3D runs anoms just fine but if you are swapping mids to data/relic hackers you might as well swap subsystems and change hull bonuses as well.

Umm. You know a Tengu won't fit into any rated sites in high sec, right? Nor will my precious Legion.

Stratios is fine as far as it goes. I actually prefer a Confessor in high sec though -- but I'm also not bothering with professional sites. It's a pretty major training shift for someone who wants to use a Jackdaw though.

Made this fit to try out the DED sites in Amarr space. Did not want an active shield tank.
Try and stay in sharpshooter mode for combat, use defensive only if you need to tank dps.
Prop mode for travel of course.

You can swap the Aux Power Core to T2 if you have the skills.

Bonus: very gank resistant fitSmile

edit: have since swapped to Coreli A-Type 1mn AB, was worth it for the speed boost.
edit 2: modified the EM resistance to a hardener
