So i am curious a lot of the jita scams are about people linking bogus contracts but are allowed to change the link text to make it seem legit

Why ccp do you allow this? When actually stopping it would cut down the jita spam considerably. Im sorry but having that crap constantly spamming local just looks a bit tacky and makes the game look incredibly cheap, but i digress...

It's allowed because many centuries into the future tech is so evolved that contracts with false references are impossible to detect

Also you lose absolutely nothing when getting scammed. Just buy enough PLEX to make up for the losses ^^

And yes this is a dumb double post

Op, once you figure out where you are in the grand scheme of things - it will all become clear. You are not the mouse, you are not the trap - you are the cheese.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

EVE: You can't trust any of your fellow players - and the game itself will lie to you about money.

Old Timer Players and CCP: lets make a kawaii new player experience that would make a Hello Kitty fanboi puke, to help people get started with the game so we can increase the number of players.

In a game that simulates the turf wars of street gangs running on viciousness and income from selling drugs, the most appropriate new player filter would be a psychological test selects for psychopathic tendencies. If someone passes, give them a pool of 10 million SP to assign, 5 billion ISK, and welcome them aboard. Everyone else gets gated to the current NPE.

Or maybe the OP is right - the game should not make it easy for scammers to lie via the game GUI.

There's plenty of code around that blocks users from manipulating the structure of updatable HTML pages. In the general case it's not difficult. And even if CCP's internal implementations are terrible, they should still consider that they are, by inaction, actively making players distrust them (CCP) as well as every other player (in a game that only works well if you join up with other players /lol). Being too lazy to stop players from lying by modifying the game itself is not a good thing for a game they want players to spend thousands of hours playing.

An extra feature for my scientific new player experience would be to include questions to identify people with masochistic tendencies. Such people are an essential part of the EVE player base after all, since nobody else will put up with the core of psycho old-timers for long, and they keep using up the pool of helpless victims.
Masochists can be told they are the "best of the best" among gamers, assigned to a permanent Alpha Clone with zero SP and ISK, and limited to "griefer-friendly" locations and activities. This suits the business model and the player base perfectly, and would probably do wonders for the new player retention statistics.

Another reason to keep contract names editable is that sometimes you want to give your contract a more informative name than "Multiple items #21898216983".

Being able to alter text when linking contracts allows amusingly topical ads to be posted in local when selling the slightly unusual.

I used to sell job lots of exotic dancers and prostitutes in Jita local with the tag line "*Insert promiscuous celeb's name* girlfriend pack, slightly used"

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
