How to Train Professional Science Characters

Hi all,

I have a question about science as I haven't done very much of it. My main character is indy & and combat focussed - and I've decided not to specialise in science very much. As it hasn't prooved necessary for the kind of production I've been doing, or ships I've been flying. So I was thinking to do some science with either 1 or more Omega alts. Do we have any experienced scientists or researchers who can answer the following questions?

1. What is the synergy between science and manufacturing? Do you normally do these on the same or separate characters.
2. Is science more profitable than manufacturing? Can you make a good profit researching and inventing blueprints?
3. What kind of skill plan would you use for a science based character?
4. Is there any good synergy with perhaps other activities in EVE if I wanted to have added functionality on that character?

Science skills are required for T2 and T3 manufacturing. They are also requires for the invention process that creates T2 and T3 blueprints.

Most of the time you train the skills on the same character. In my case I have 3 characters on 1 account each of whom can manufacture, research, invent and PI. All of these processes are currently passive in the sense that once you have initiated the process, it will continue to completion whether or not you are logged in.

Training a character to level 4 PI, level 4 science, 10 research and production queues advanced industry 5 and a reasonable selection of core skills will take about 4 months so you can train all 3 characters on 1 account in a year. You can use real world cash to speed the process up with multiple character training or skill injectors.

These characters can easily earn enough to PLEX the account with a fair bit left over to fund other projects in game. In fact, once the characters are trained you can use the subscription queue for skillpoint farming.

I've currently been using a single Omega account with two extra characters on it. I found that training those with PI I could easily get a lot of income from the extra characters and didn't need to be logged in and didn't particularly want to multibox. I used MPTI's to get those two characters to the skill levels that I wanted and am now letting their training plan's go dormant. Giving me the benefit of 3 Omega characters with the subscription fee of only one.

I found that having industry on only my main was all that was truly required, and industry has such a short turnover cycle that I really need to manage it while logged in on my main. I've trained my alts into some niche roles such as freighter hauling, and other things which I sometimes but don't usually need.

I also didn't develop my main into tech 2/3 production, instead I have gone for mass production and scale. With capital ships and station components, and a large number of production ques. I've found that, (aside from not having tech 2/3), this is all of the manufacturing I realistically need.

The science however, I have found to be time consuming and que intensive. With a backlog of TE/ME jobs which often take 5 or more days. So my plan is to open a second Omega account with some science characters, and then keep their manufacturing ques for those tech II jobs which actually need the science. Thus keeping my main free for more combat training.

I think I will include PI in my alts skills. Aside from that, is there anything else I can or should include?

If all you want to do is ME, TE research and copying, the only skills you need for most blueprints are science, research, laboratory operation and metallurgy and advanced industry. The "beancounter" implants RR-60x, MY-70x and SC-80x will help. So will an engineering complex with ME, TE and copy rigs.
