Good points from people who noted that it should be part of the player economy. Why not create a whole new skillset for ship painting? Something new for the indy guys to train.

Still custom paintjobs could involve an ISK sink (besides the skill books), some sort of Concord licence to use custom colors in space, perhaps.

To keep server load down and not necessitate loading thousands of different schemes, CCP could provide some base schemes with 3-4 user-selected colors that allow for uniqueness, with various logos that could be overlaid on the paint.

I'm thinking of something similar to the way iRacing handles custom car paint schemes.

CCP could even run more art contests with deviantart to let community members both do the work for them and take ownership and pride in the designs.

Only if they can figure out how to take Aurum (ISK, microplex, your hope and dreams, whatever payment) + not painted hull = painted hull

You may think that is pretty obvious, but they were convinced they could spawn ships for Aurum once. That stupid thought will pop up again.

I'd really rather they didn't waste time on this.

It's another "investers first" type of thing like the monocles and what not.

Akin to the stupid crystaline steed thing in WoW, £20 for a make believe pony? Lavish.

Anyway, a lot of these ideas have come up before, it would be nice to have more window dressing in the game but not at the cost of the way the game performs.

In short, I'm all for window dressing the game as long as it does not lag it out.

You have to remember CCP has been fighting lag for years, it's why some things were simplified in the past or removed completely. It was not just trying to balance the game it was also trying to reduce lag.

Your “payment methods” selection is missing an option: “this should not be a separate service and should be integrated with the normal market — there should be no difference between ship paint and T1 modules.”

The “directly with ISK” option makes it sound like another NeX, only with ISK.

That is what its supposed to mean but I do not want to go into specifics of the actual mechanics because I wanted to keep it simple. I'll think about how I can add that separately.

I just grew weary of CCP's weasel-wording of these things back in the summer. Since you're not CCP, I suppose I shouldn't really extend that to include you as well. Oops

If CCP coded it properly so that custom textures could be disabled through the menu and tied it to a function that also disabled them if client load became too heavy (server has nothing to do with textures) we'd be fine.

No AUR, pls. Use it as a ISK sink.

For this to work, logos cannot be custom. If they are, an option needs to be available to turn it off so we don't have to see other player's logos. Otherwise, fleet combat will suffer greatly.

I just hope it happens in a form that makes it open to all pilots not just the crazy rich. If i could have a costom scheem or logo i pay the rights for, it would be awesome.

Hmm…

“This ship add-on should use the normal player-run market and industry [like any other ship equipment].”, I suppose, but that also expands the question to touch upon the source and manufacturing of the decorations.

Or maybe just “Ship customisation should be just another trade item.” (weasel:y enough to let them be NPC-seeded at first).

If it does enter the game (could be done in stations, accessed like the fittings window for example) then it should be available to all including new players.




It should not be an isk sink as some people in previous posts have suggested.

Why do you need isk sinks, if you have too much isk and it burning a hole in your pocket, just get an industrial fill it up with PLEX get it blown up and that should solve your problem. This would have two effects removing some PLEX from the game as some would be destroyed and you would make someone's day as well as CCPs.

Having isk in your wallet is not a problem if you don't use it.
