Sentry drone or drone interfacing?

Hello all, I'm currently at the point where drone interfacing and sentry drone skills are both at IV and they both require about a 23d train time. I can obviously only use T1 sentries but would it be better to train sentry drones to V before drone interfacing to be able to use T2 sentries on my drone boat? OR would drone interfacing V be a better choice to train first.

The reason for me asking this is just for isk farming efficiency during the rather long train times in between the two. I like to use a drone boat sometimes and like to fly both Amarr and Gallente.

Thanks!

I went for T2 Sentry Drones first.

The difference in damage output between T1 and T2 is pretty amazing.

Add Drone Interfacing afterwards for the icing on the cake. Smile

This is probably good advice if you're already using sentries. T2 sentries not only hit harder but apply that damage better. Higher optimal, higher falloff, and faster tracking make for an all around better drone. DI is nice (very nice in fact) but it can't compete with that.

definitely T2 sentries first.

Need more info.

How much do you fly gallente v.s. amarr?

How oftern are you using sentries?

Do you pvp often?

Since one is well worth it if you use sentries alot but the other effects all drones the real answer is based on your play style.

Sentry drone interfacing V is a great skill if you use them a lot. However imo Drone Interfacing 5 is one of the most bang for buck higher rank lvl 5 skills you can train, there isn't another skill that adds 20% damage per level to an entire weapon system.
It will basically make every single ship you fly more effective by a fairly large margin for just 1 skill.

I've just completed Sentry Drone 5, and just set off the 21 day DI 5 Big smile Its been great to use the T2 Sentries and looking forward to the increase in damage. I'll finish the Heavies after this.

To give you an idea of my current playstyle, I live in null and fly both amarr and gallente *about* the same ammount, for no particular reason other than to switch it up every now and then. I mainly do PvE activities when I play with the occational frig pvp as my skills are still being built up (I am sitting on about 8.7m sp).

When I do anoms in my domi I use strickly sentries and send out T2 light drones to clean things up if anything gets too close. I also fly an apocalypse and switch between sentries and medium drones depending on my fit.

In the end I will be training both of these skills to V and heavy drones to V later on down the road but for the mean time I go back and forth from sentries to light/med T2 honestly depending on what I feel like using. So its really jsut comes down to what would be the more practical choice to train first.

Well as you have confirmed you will need both.

As to which to train first. Well if you primarily use sentries then than train sentry drones V first.

However if you use small and medium drones as much as you use sentries then DI V may be the better choice as it gives a big damage boost to all drones.

That being said though, if you only pull in your sentries to send out small or mediums to clean up what got past the T1 sentries, T2 sentries can hit small targets much better and will not let near as much through.

Personally I trained Sentry drones to 5 first. Those T2 sentries are amazing.

I'd say it depends on which you use the most Scout & Hvy drones or Sentries.

Train that first, then the next asap afterwards.

They are only R5 skills (I know its almost 3 weeks for Lvl5), so both isnt an issue longterm.

To put it into perspective…

Sentry IV→V:
+25% damage, +20% range, +20% tracking, +20% HP… but only for sentires.

Drone Interfacing IV→V:
+11% damage, but for all drones.

T2 sentries are such a huge deal if you're using sentries even 50% of the time that I'd head that way first. The difference in range is frequently the difference (especially when Omnis are involved) between Gardes and Bouncers.

This really did put it into perspective, thank you for that.

And thanks everyone else for the input!

If you train drone interfacing to V first you'll be able to fly a carrier sooner, which will be good for your extraction plans and other utility.
