Ok, this is half rant, half curiosity.

I'm sitting on a dock, see a flashy, I engage it. INSTANTLY it changed into a Vindicator and knocks me off the dock, keeps pushing me and blows me up.

I need to know, how was this even possible. A merlin turned into a Vindi in the flash of an eye.

What's so hard to understand? He exited one ship and boarded the other. If you didn't know it was possible before, now you do. Don't play station games if you don't know the rules.

Even that should take a few seconds to make happen since he's got to wait for the ship to be launched, then eject then enter.
If he's doing it literally instantly then he's using macro's at the very least which is an EULA breach.

If 'instantly' was 5 seconds or so then sure.

To OP, Report it, CCP will investigate and see what the logs show, and if he did do something funky logs will show it I'm sure.

It was instant, as in .01th of a second instant.

Are you sure someone else wasn't there for him to swap with?
Or, are you sure he wasn't in a Platoon and the Platoon member is the one who shot back?

Bingo. A friendly Orca or Bowhead can carry other ships (including a Vindicator) and the pilot can have the Orca's or Bowhead's Ship Maintenance Bay open and ready to swap ships with a double-click.

Edit: Had to be a Bowhead, a Vindicator doesn't fit in an Orca.

Funnily enough at no risk to the orca pilot. It's super balanced.

Hardly. Just because you don't understand the rules doesn't mean it's BS. If you where to simply watch the Amarr undock,

( Assuming Amarr as PIRAT does the bowhead swap a lot, )

You would notice this happen. Instead you saw a suspect and engaged it probably without thought and died.

You where tricked by someone betting on your ignorance. The guy has his bowhead literally sitting right next to him.

EDIT: It totally was PIRAT and it was totally the member who uses the Bowhead.

In my experience, an ignorant poster's misunderstanding of the mechanics usually indicates that it's something they have never experienced before and often explain something as instant when it is not, so I usually don't address that.

Cara mentioned Orca, I don't think a BS can fit in an Orca, must have been a Bowhead.

But I still stand by my comment, if you don't know the rules to station games, don't play them, or at least not in your half a bill insta locking T3 and certainly not with those who do nothing but play them.

Blast the Merlin apart with a larger ship... something the Vindicator won't like tangling with. When he does it again, you do it again. Cost him a lot of Merlin's. Make it not worth his while. Have your buddies do it too. Put a cargo container next to him that says "This moron in the Merlin is insta-swapping with a larger ship, don't engage him unless you want a bigger fight on your hands."

If people want to play rules games, let them.

You can always counter any 'scheme' with schemes of your own.

"instantly" has to be a minimum of 10 seconds.

There is a session change timer when anyone ejects from a ship. That timer prevents jumping in another ship until it expires.

Rather than hax, this is more likely just not understanding mechanics and being caught out. 10 seconds can zip by quick once you start in a pvp situation.

using a bowhead/orca/etc ship maintenance bay to swap ships does not require a 10 second gap between ships, it would appear instant to the observer
