FC's lying about being NewBro friendly.

This is a bit of a bugbear of mine.

I was trained by my original Corp to fly Bombers, then Bomber's Bar said NewBro friendly. So I signed up. I'd only been in game 3 months at this stage. I had all the Wingspan Skills, and tons of enthusiasm.

Turns out they meant new 10m SP Pilot friendly, not new player friendly. I was thrown out for telling them to get lost after they kept telling me to shut up when I had genuine New Player questions. I could fly a bomber, could not get into Doctrine ( yet ) , and ( heaven forbid ) actually talked about it in a NewBro chat channel ( OMG!!! ). I even sorted out a guide to help fellow players having trouble. And they just went for me.

My boats work. Theirs were VERY skill-hungry. It's important to mention this. Why go for me to deliberately pee me off, and then chuck me out when I fire back?

That is not NewBro friendly. Not even close. They were simply arrogant 'cool kids' with a ton of real-world money behind them.

I then moved to a second fleet, that has genuine NewBie fleets in it ( so it's ok to only have 6m skill points and have some fun in fleet ).

I am also flying Incursions and doing ok there too.

I also spend about £40 a month on this game ( plus a sizeable 'upgrade' investment in PLEX's over Xmas ).

My main gripe is this: If I spend a whole month or 2 learning 1 discipline, including using real money to buy the 'upgrade' ( think Warhamster ) then that is a certain level of dedication. If you, as an FC, are so impatient and ... You shouldn't be an FC.

I know EVE is pretty mercenary; but if any FC claims to be NewBro friendly, and then whines when actual NewBros show up, can someone please drop a sizeable Focused Void Bomb or 6 on their ass.

Oh, and demote them.

Games are supposed to be fun. And CCP brought in Alphas for a reason. If Corps or Fleets lie about this 'NewBro friendly' thing then someone needs to pop 'em. A lot.

Rant over.

.

PS: It's ok, I stole every secret Bombers Bar had. They really should think about loyalty more. Building a boat and using BLOPS and Wormholes isn't that hard ( their strength is their numbers ). Loyalty does have its' rewards ( the lack of Suicide Gankers in your great Armada being an obvious one. Bomber's Bar does not pay it's Pilots after all... ).

Is Bomber's Bar a public thing? I am pretty sure I've been on one of their fleets before. At any rate, I've been on fleets like Karma or whatever the NPSI things are called where the FC demands certain fits, for the example let's say a Caracal. I can't use the T2 launchers and I think at the time I couldn't even use T2 shield extenders or hardeners but I bought all the 'Limited' and other meta 4 versions of stuff and made the fit to look a lot like theirs but I kept that my secret Smile

I've been on fleets where someone commits the party-foul of putting the Sensor Boosters on their doctrine ship so they can get pods first. And on the same fleet, that guy got comissared or whatever it's called. The FC had the fleet shoot him for fitting his ship different. I didn't shoot... I didn't know how to feel at the time. The FC got super pissy about how people are not bringing stuff that isn't to what he demanded in his fleet, which I get. But on the other hand it's a dumb public fleet.

I guess my point is some people, even the FC's that claim to be newbro friendly are actually not. It's better to fly under the radar as a new player than speak up (at least in my experience) Ugh For some that know me, I'm a lot better at asking for forgiveness instead of permission.

Newbro friendly doesn't necessarily mean accepting of questions during battlecomms. There are good times to ask questions and bad times. Then there is small detail that in a bomber fleet I'm sure there is no role what so ever an alpha clone can fill. They are resticted from using a cloaking device.

And for whoever picks a sensorbooster instead of the shield tank during a caracal fleet ... just don't. You get primaried by the enemy fleet and logi calls that reps isn't holding, due to you not fitting the tank FC specifically told you to bring.
#4 - 2017-01-10 16:24:31 UTC
I guess just to clarify - if you can't fly the high end, tight CPU/PG fit, just make it as close as possible without using too many fitting mods/rigs and meta modules. Don't change the fit to be that Sensor Booster thing or whatever you think is better. That fleet I was on had to listen to an annoying rant about it for a while and that's I guess more what bugged me about him than anything. Keep your competitive fleet comps to your alliance business.. pubbies wanna pubby.

1. Correct me if I missed something, but it seems you tried to join a purely cloak fleet with a character that cannot fit a cloak and are now upset. You also think "newbro friendly" means newbros can fly anything they want regardless if it works in the fleet setup, which is also false. Fleets where you can bring what you like are called "kitchen sink" fleets. Most likely in an uncloaked vessel you would have got everyone killed or at least scared away most targets.

2. 10 Million SP is a new bro.

3. Spending 40 a month on ISK won't make you better at the game. Spending 0 a month is a better route to being good at EvE.

4. The secrets you think you know about Bombers Bar are actually well known tactics, not special secrets.

You need to remember that although you're a newbro, you're far more New than Bro, so don't try and act like a bro, bro.

Yeah, so FC'ing, much like leading raids in other games, is a voluntary thing, and we get few enough people willing to do it. It's pure work for them, and it's like customer support / herding cats. On top of the built-in rarity cause nobody wants to do it, GOOD FC's are even harder to find. There's like, a dozen or so in the game (compare to player base of 100,000).

NOBODY is going to demote their fleet commander in favor of some newbie. Even if the FC is a primadonna. They're just that rare.

On top of it, corps have forums for a reason. You don't use up the voice comms to start criticizing fittings or arguing with the FC in the middle of combat operations. Use the forums, that's what they're for.

So yeah. While I agree with you that some corps are bad and lie about how newbie-friendly they actually are, it doesn't look like you were exactly a saint yourself. You didn't get kicked out for being a newbie, you got kicked out for being a drama queen.

Also, corps in EVE don't recruit based on your skills. Because, if they need any particular skill or ship unlocked, they have a ton of veterans already in the corp who can just plug the skill in and maybe apply an injector or two, and voila, why the hell would they need you? It's completely different from other MMOs where healers are locked into healing, tanks into tanking, and DPS into DPS'ing, and it takes a long time to get a character to max level and geared in purples, so they recruit based on your ability to heal or tank.

Not in EVE. In EVE we recruit solely based on personality and how well you fit within the group. You failed that quite spectacularly. I bet you they would have accepted and made welcome an actual Alpha newbie flying a newbie ship, just installed the game, with no preconceptions about how to fit ships, but totally willing to take the FC's orders as coming from God, just because it's a veteran player speaking so they must know what's what.

Couldn't fit the doctrine, I'd guess and say pg issues or something like that.

The mistake was questioning the doctrine because she couldn't fit it.

That rookie guide keept trying to download crap onto my phone, sorry love but nope.
Put that information on a web page and link to that because what you have seems mad sketchy,
not accusing you of anything now , just I don't want it on my phone or my PC.
I definitely wouldn't appreciate that just before a fleet.
Also why is a rookie pilot giving rookies advice ?

there is a newbro tab on the bombers bar website, I'm guessing you should have read that, and watched the videos, before trying to join in on one of their fleets. I imagine things would have gone much smoother.

Also from your post you sound annoying enough I'm not too surprised they kicked you out.

This might be a little off topic but are those suggestions good?

Some nice ships and fittings.

If you always stay ready you don't have to get ready.

It's just toys to play with until you get better.

I rant & rave on page 1 of PvP about how you are sooooo going to die; but everything starts somewhere.

I was stuffed over for asking questions in the NewBro channel, and because I did not have 10m SP and bottomless pockets.

Hence my disgruntlement.

Still, it's done now. I've moved on. Thankfully there are other Fleets to fly in.

This moan-of-a-post is more my disappointment. Maybe they'll up their game for the next batch of newbs they trick into earning ISKies for them ( the Bomber Pilots don't get paid, and there is clearly profit for the FC's or they would not be doing it ).

Unionising Bomber Wings. Now *that* would be funny! XD

PS: If you aren't very good at training NewBros people with legit questions will class as 'annoying'. Lack of skill in an FC is, well, not exactly inspiring.

Is it possible that the core issue is that you're actually a profoundly annoying person?

That's just sort of the impression I came away with.

Get a new phone, my site does nothing iffy.

Maybe the Rookie knows tactics better than the 'children' who were managers at the time? This game does pick up military & ex-military players after all.

For example: Bunch of uncloaked Bombers sitting on their side of the wormhole waiting for the 'go' command. Bombs Away? Bye-bye Bomber's Bar fleet. Suicide Gank.

Or...

Bunch of boats go through a Wormhole. Wormhole collapses, cutting off half the fleet. FC completely unprepared.

Or...

You do the flying, get to break even if you die if it's in fleet, and someone else makes an actual profit ( the BB managers ). You make them money by being there, they can't do it without you, and they don't pay you. Bit of a Jita Scam I feel.

But let's not listen to this Rookie eh?

I know I'm no god, but when the FC's are knobs with deep-pockets it kinda puts you off a crowd. Whoever funds said FC's might want to think about that. Can you afford to pump in PLEX's like it's a Slot Machine?

Oh, and I only spend £20 a month on ISK top-up at present . The rest is simply running 2 Mains for PvP stuff.

I have no issue with EVE being a challenge. I have got a problem with people pumping money in like it's a slot machine, whilst bashing NewBros ( NewBro loot is crap, so why even do it? ). Gaming is supposed to be fun, or CCP goes out of business ( they did the Alphas for a reason ).

I guess if you're into Internet Bullying you just won't understand that.

Cloak to 4. I had full Wingspan Skills. As a NewBro I could slightly beat their Longbow Range as I had extra skills. By a whole 1km :D

Nah, it was just FC's moaning as the NewBro was asking questions. Bad Management. It's ruined many a team in many a company in the real world after all. Mushroom Management, if you know what that is*.

Very disappointing, after 2 months of solid training to get that Bomber in the air.

And now, having read some of your (hilarious) guide, I'm betting that the core problem was that you spent a lot of time advocating horrible fittings in a supremely obnoxious manner.

I'm going to be blunt: You haven't the foggiest notion of what you're talking about.

No, you absolutely DO NOT put some small autocannons on your railgun ship as an anti-drone point defense system, unless your strategy is to induce a case of fatal hilarity in your opponents after they see your lossmail.

Yeah, so the standard stuff that actually works in the real world ( the Phalanx Weapon System ) shouldn't be used in EVE. Because it's really easy for Battleships to hit Frigates...

Or you are the one who does not know what is going on. Try researching how Turret Tracking actually works.

For example:

Pulses, Heavy, on a boggie APOC. Max Tracking of about 8-ish without boost if your Gunnery Skills are in the 3-4 bracket.

Beams, medium, on said Boggie APOC, and Max Tracking jumps to 15. Oh my...

It's why 1940's to 1960's real Battle Ships had both big guns AND little guns. CCP honours A LOT of genuine scientific processes in this game.

But some gamer kiddie web-coder would not understand real science & ballistics.

Anyway, you're boring. Go mixed-ratting in a boat with just large slow turrets, and watch yourself go pop.
