Improvement for highsec wardec system

Just want to throw that very simple idea and ultimate solution to all wardec issues into the pool. P

Make it so, every individual can join a war on the defending side upon invitation for free without leaving their current corp (similar to a fleet invite). The war participation is active immediately, lasts until leave (to be discussed: ... but at least 24h).

This would create complete new game play options, "war safaris" for bored highsec players, public defending fleets, and also brings an end to complains about one-sided engagements, as the ease of recruiting allies can't be easier ("recruit from local").

It's easy, but I know it would be difficult to implement because the war mechanics are tightly coupled to corps.

EDIT: Some smaller tweaks to the text.

Sounds fine to me. Seems like an option for bounty hunters since the bounty system is broken.

I think crime watch , wars and Corp-Corp interaction need a compleat overhaul tbh.

While I'm not strictly against this in principle (I'd certainly like to be able to take individual contracts without leaving Corp),
I dare'nt think how to make it work in he current state of play, it's screaming "abusable unforseen fringcases".

The restriction to the defending side should eliminate most if not all abusive cases. For mutual wars, the feature is open to both sides (maybe with an additional cooldown before switching sides). This would also allow for easy weekend warriors in FW.

I know this reduces commitment but helps casual players to stick around with more options.

Joining should go through a timer rather than immediately. Players joining corps during a dec is a bit of an issue because they sometimes don't show as a target on the overview. Doesn't have to be long but a couple hours to avoid exploitation.

I like the idea, except for the quoted above. You'd get a lot more "mercenary" action if you were willing to pay for help.

In fact, I would like to see the following in such a system:

- The defending corp has the ability to enlist mercs, which will join the wardec as you've described
- The defending corp can indicate a % value of the ship to be paid in bounty to the killers (shared amongst the attackers as current bounties are)... a cap of 25% and a floor of 0%
- The defending corp and the mercs can withdraw from the agreement with 24 hours notice (or if the defending corp runs out of isk)
- The defending corp must explicitly accept a merc's request to join the war

In this regard, you will incentivize people to hunt for you. Heck, I'd totally join with a few friends if I knew that we could kill the battleships camping the gate, and get 10% of a killmail value. No room for exploitation, given that it's only a small percentage of the KM.

If people were interested in this they'd just create 1 man corps. I don't think this will change anything.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

I'm not seeing the "safaries" as the main part, only a small number of people would probably do that. The main point is giving the not yet organized highsec community the easiest possible access to defend each other in wars and access to real PvP. Part of this is removing entrance hurdles and lasting consequences (for the individual, her/his corp), if you join as a defender. This is IMO the only way to level the playing field.

Push, because I see this more relevant to discuss because there is a rumored Empire expansion in Winter.

Nearly 8 years in the game, I cannot even begin to count the war decs (most of them are lost to time) and not once EVER has there been a reasonable offer put on the table by a merc group. Even if we wanted to hire mercs the costs have been prohibitively high in ALL cases. There is a lesson in that for you mercs and a decision to be made, you can charge the fees you charge and have less work, or you can lower your fees in hopes that you get more work. Seems like this is working as intended.

Going back to the OP idea.
I would be against it simply on the basis that it is trying to stop the bleeding from a large cut using a very small band aide. War dec, bounties and a whole lot more in high sec need a major rethink, and a major overhaul not band aides.

I think this would be a good change.
If you wardec a small mining-corp, you would actually risk getting a fight. Right now you know there is 0 danger and only possible freekills.
