Look up the cost of the non- researched BPO from the NPC orders then compare that to the contracts in a place like Jita. It is going to vary from day to day but it gives you a baseline for what it would cost you to buy and research yourself.

Which if you have the skills, it could be worth your time on the bpo's that only take days to max out. Also of note, maxed out bpo's are not always worth the price tag. An 8/16 will do the job in most cases.

You can use fuzzwork's Blueprint calculator to see the isk cost and duration of a researched BPO. Then figure out a reasonable isk/hr for the time and add the three together to get your reasonable price.

Seed price for a Condor BPO is a little over 2 million ISK. In an Engineering Complex with T1 rig it will take between 6 weeks and 2 months to research to 10/20 depending on skills. With a fully researched BPO, your expected profit ship will be around 12,000 ISK - somewhat variable depending where you build and sell.

The lowest ask price in Jita for a 10/20 BPO is 39 million - which is way overpriced in my opinion. Research it yourself.

It is the cost of instant gratification.

I've only purchased a few researched BPO over the years, and I always consider the research cost and time.

In my own personal research of BPO (I have at least 100b NPC value - I lost track years ago) by far time is the more painful factor to deal with than cost.

Agreed. I've been researching capital prints for the past 18 months and can't remember the last time a job completed in less than 2 months. Tends to reset your expectation anchor!

The costs (and particularly the time) do vary dependant on where the BPO is researched.

However, as a rule of thumb I've tended to use: ME9%/TE10% costs about 50% of the initial cost to research; ME10%/TE20% is another 50% (so double the original cost).

It's the last level of ME that costs as much as 1->9% totalled....

Advice: Don't get into ship production until you have *serious* capital behind you.

Ship BPOs take a lot of science line hours to research to 10/18. Margins are tight - if you use an 8/12 'budget' BPO you may end up losing ISK.

If you want to dabble lightly in production, find a very high turnover tech 2 module such as the Enegized Adaptive Nano Membrane II, or my personal favorite, the Light Neutron Blaster II. These have significantly higher profit margins and are always in high demand.

As a general rule, fair market price for a 10/20 frigate BPO is 50 million ISK. 10/18 is 40m, 10/10 to 10/16 is 30m, and 9/(anything) is around 20m, while 8/anything is at most 10 million. (I've had a lot of these go through my hands in the last 2 years).

These are general trend prices only. You might be able to sucker an idiot into buying a 7/12 Condor BPO for 30m, or you might snap up a 10/20 one for 15m, but these are not fair prices and you should regard that as profit from either scamming or trade.

If you want to research blueprints for profit, there is a good deal of ISK to be made researching various component BPOs. With low capital you can research Quantum Microprocessors and similar components (these are used in tech 2 production, cost 5 million from NPCs, and take about 60 science line hours in a rigged Raitaru or 120 science line hours in a station to get to 10/20; 10/20 ones generally sell in the 20-30 million range).

With more capital, the blueprints for components used for citadels (such as Structure Factory Blueprint) are 200m each, and take about 2000 science line hours to research to 9/14, at which point they sell for 550-600m.

And with more capital again, dreadnought BPOs are 3 billion ISK from an NPC, take about 4000 science line hours to get to 9/14, and will then sell for 5 to 6 billion, or you can just copy them for profitable resale.

I don't usually buy researched BPOs, but when I do I ask myself how much profit can I make out of it in the same time it would take to research it to 10/20 (or the equivalent TE/ME). If you can make a good profit out of it (covering the initial cost and earning beyond it), you are basically buying time and, as people stated, the abillity to instantly manufacture it with better TE/ME. That and of course, making sure you're not paying an unfair price on a researched BPO. For that I'd follow what people already said here.
