Hi

I have been doing some mining the last couple of weeks in null.

I bought 2 hulks and got rorq pilots to slave for me with boost and compression :)!

I have been asking and doing some number crunshing...

Rorq: 140 -180 m/h, cost with fit 8b
Hulk(with boost): 50 - 60 m/h, cost with fit 300m
Hulk(no boost): 20 - 25 m/h, cost with fit 300m

I think these numbers are ruffly what u can expect.

NOW!

My feelings are that there is a huge gap here and i want to fill it with something..

My suggestion the ORCA. Right now i feel its not used at all.... atleast not in null!
This ship would be an awesome mid ship when u go form a T2 exhumer with the goal ---> Rorq!

People might like "WTF man are u crasy and all this jazz..." BUT think of it the skill points u need
to fly and fit a rorq is a LONG road to walk compared to get into a T2 exhumer....

We can talk about scenarios " 1 account": If u only have 1 account it would be smart to have ppl going T1 mining barge - T2 exhumer - Orca - Rorq...

U also get VERY dependent on others if u only have 1 account.. sitting there in your skiff with no boost and going back and forth dropping ore is time consuming to say the least..... U realy need 2 account or boost to make it even worth while............
The ORCA could solve the 1 account problem with huge ore hold and self dependent with no need for boost!

It would be awesome if we got a ship between T2 exhumer and Rorq.

New list could look like this:

Rorq: 140 -180 m/h, cost with fit 8b
Orca: 60 - 80 m/h, cost with fit 1,5-2b
Hulk(with boost): 50 - 60 m/h, cost with fit 300m
Hulk(no boost): 20 - 25 m/h, cost with fit 300m

Maybe give the orca a bigger ore hold since it cant compress so it dont have to fly back and forth all the time..

The changes i feel wont take long to implement tbh give some mining boost to the ship bigger ore hold and be able
to fit strip miners in all forms and shapes!

These are just thoughts and suggestions but i REALY feel like there is a huge gap here and it need to be filled.

FLAME ON!!

Thansk for reading my morning post im all over the palce but thats life with 2 kids that wake u up before the sun goes up....

Rorqual and Orca were designed as mining support ships. 6 months ago they had no mining functionality whatsoever. Both ships used to hide behind a POS forcefield where an AFK pilot could boost the entire system. Not good gameplay.

When they were forced on-grid with the Ascension expansion, CCP gave them the ability to participate in the harvest using drones. They went overboard with the Rorqual. It's been nerfed twice and is still crazy overpowered for a support vessel. I think they got the Orca exactly right. It would not be your first choice for solo mining but it is useful on-grid. Good risk/reward balance.

If you turned the Orca into a mining powerhouse, why would anyone ever fly an Exhumer and what would that do to the price of minerals? I hope CCP continues to dial back the Rorqual to the point where it is once again a fleet support ship rather than a mining fleet in its own right.

Hi

I see your point!

Ye mineral market might take a hit....

I dont mind ppl using T2 exhumers less its the same with other "farm" ships
just look at carrier/super ratting even titans rat....

U will get better ships when your skills improve... you wont use a navy vexor or dominix if u
can use a carrier, super or even titan...

Rorq i feel is in a good place!

I just think the jump from T2 exhumer to rorq is to HUGE and we need a a middle man...

The Orca would be high risk reward thingy i feel... it cant tank as much and if u get jumped u are dead there is
no panic button so ppl will form fleets and go Orca hunt in null would be awesome tbh.

Thanks for your thoughts mate!

If the Orca was buffed like you suggest, CCP likely wouldn't allow it is high security space anymore due to it breaking the risk/reward -scale

Wormholer for life.

Mining seems like one of those things ccp put in to give new people a low barrier of entry into some isk making. Then once they grow beyond that beginning phase it really becomes a group/multibox kind task, if you choose to continue.

The orca fits well in its roll as the highsec mining fleet anchor. Making any changes that would turn this into a more useful nullsec ship would likely cause it to become unbalanced in highsec.

When it comes to null if you are not multiboxing or running in fleets all the time, mining is likely a bad way to make your money. I know new guys that make 30 to 50 mil an hour just following ratters around and doing salvage.

If you mine because you like it, which is cool even if people will scold you for not playing the game like they do, then you have to think about what it will take to do what you love and make the best profit.

The other ship trees have the same "gap" that you talk about in mining. Going from a battleship to a carrier is a pretty big investment in time. Same goes for dread. I think it is just part of the nature of the game to have this line break.

Ye u might be right... never hurts to want to mine in a Orca :)

Well, I don't agree on making the Orca a mining ship more than a fleet support ship but I think EVE need more mining ship on the road to the Rorqual. It was a POS module before, now it's useful, that's great... now we need to imagine a new ship which could be between the exhumers and the Rorqual.

Other possibility, create dedicated ship to fleet support and some dedicated to mining even in cap size. There can be brawback in order to reduce the impact on the mineral prices ! :)

Starting from scratch with no implants, you can sit in an Orca in 3 weeks, an Exhumer takes 7 weeks training and a Rorqual 3 months. This does not seem to be an unreasonable progression. Why would we need something in the middle? Excavator drones cost 1 billion ISK each - which is more than an Orca - so your intermediate ship is going to be very expensive regardless of hull cost - might as well simply fly the Rorqual.

Well, that's the problem, either cap ship should be harder to obtain or we need biggers goals...i'm for the first option :p
