About the various races and combat.

So far I really like the look of two racial sorts of ship. The Gallente and Minmatar.

Sadly I also think that the Amarr lasers look by far the best when firing. (Just going on by what I've seen firing while flying around).

So I'm stuck.

Is there a clear race that's strongest for Pvp? Or are more ships and fit types fairly viable?

The Gallente rails and blasters sound interesting, extreme variances in range and all. But I don't see many people flying Gallente ships.

Any advice would be appreciated!

So far it seems that most ships are fairly balanced for PVP these days.
Each race has a couple of stand outs ships.

As for fit types it depends on the ship. If theres a fit type theres probably a hull to match it, but you won't for example, find any Artillery Sniper Curses.

The reason for the relatively few Gallente ships is that up until a few months back, Gallente PVP was pretty much a joke.
They were buffed, but not enough to get people to spend training time to switch.

I personally like the Amarr ships, you won't go wrong with guns that actually Go PEW PEW PEW.
Rails on Gallente is a situational thing, I personally don't like Railguns.
Blasters on the other hand mean that once you decide to attack something, you probably aren't getting out unless he dies.
Short range severely impairs your ability to disengage.

There is a fine line between a post and a signature.

Pick anything you like, it's not like it's a RPG, I know it's advertised as one but race doesn't matter beyond aesthetics of your toon. You start in a different part of space start with a little different skillset, but that's as far as it goes.
Now, most people will tell you to go for Minmatar because they're currently a bit OP or just favoured, this might last for weeks, months, but may also change with some buff/nerf, so again, no general rule.
If you want to base your decision on ships, go for the one you like the most, you'll be able to cross-train later on for other races., but keep in mind it's fairly heavy when you go for opposites as you might need to train a very different set of support skills, such as Amarr/Caldari who differ not only in weaponry, but also in tanking methods.
When it comes to ship fits, it's like opinions, everyone has one and thinks it's the best.
You're not limited in accounts, so if you want a feel of each, make four toons, try the tutorial missions with each and see wich one you fancy.

This baby convinced me to fly Gallente before it was cool.

A large proportion of players in EVE are terrible and are only capable of copy/pasting cookie-cutter fits from Battleclinic, refusing to use anything that flavor of the month.

The game is rather well-balanced in that there are excellent ships for every race. Virtually all ships except low-tier tech 1 hulls (slasher, atron, maller...) are good in their own right.

Generally if you want to use a lot of railguns you'll want Caldari. Gallente hybridboats tend to fit best with blasters (though they have droneboats that can use either as a supplementary weapon system).

Amar and minmitar tend to be preferred races for pvp. With Amar having lower dps but being tough as nails, and the minmitar having more dps and being squishy.

Thats what you get for making your ships out tooth pics and scotch tape.

You can pvp as a any race. Its not what you fly but how you fly it.

By all rights a talos should be armor tanked seeing its a gallente ship. But the garmon video showed how the shield buffer kiting talos is a predator in the truest sense. So dont fall into fitting dogma. FInd the right ship for the job then fit it for the job. Dont always fit a ship one way, "because".

caldari tend to be specialists. With really good snipers and ewar boats.

The gallente are a freaking wild card. I never thought they were bad in PVP because my alt flew drone boats like the myrmidon and the Dominix and those ships kick ass.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

I think the Atk/Def scores there should be swapped. Then, that would be accurate.

At virtually every class Amarr ships outdamage equivalent Minmatar ones. Minmatar ships are fast and have infinite utility slots. Also, they have a wider effective range, though Amarr has higher overall range.
