  • World War Z - not a zombie survival guide... in EVE Communication Center

World War Z is just like World War 2 except the enemy isn't equipped with guns, tanks, trucks, jeeps, half tracks, bunkers, airplanes, mines, artillery, mortors, rockets, bombs and bayonets or any weapons besides hands and teeth nor do they have a coherent strategy, rapid transport, defensive / offensive emplacement or even critical thinking.

The War produced 6 million machine guns, easily over 50 million+ rifles and submachine guns, 200k+ tanks, about million artillery guns, 700k+ Mortars and over 450k fighter bomber aircraft in 5 years. These weapons were used to kill over 60 million people. Guns in the world is already around 1-12 100million of them AK's so we got a pretty good head start. A zombie war would bring in WW2 numbers in military recruitment, over 60 million soldiers fought in the war and there was only 2 billion people on the planet.

A war with zombies would be like the least guilt ridden genocide ever. Most of the species which are a lot more formidable than us with their claws and teeth we kill by accident or over hunting. They better outnumber us like 20-1 and catch us completely off guard or we're just going to straight up massacre them and not even really feel that bad about it.

How does the infection start? There would have to be some sort of air based or water based toxin or it would be contained in like a week. Chasing down humans and biting them not a great way to spread numbers.

One of the reasons why I like the walking dead style infection. Everyone living or dead is infected, it's simply dormant and has no effect until the living become deceased, at which point they get up and start chomping on people. People that are chomped on bleed out or succumb to septic shock, then they themselves get up and chomp on someone else.

I think the problem with waging a modern military war against such a style of zombie/infection, is that it requires a complicated and relatively fragile logistics system. Guns need bullets that are made in factories, planes and tanks need fuel that is first extracted from the earth and then refined at a plant, crews require training and practice to become competent. Pull enough blocks out of this jenga tower and the whole lot comes tumbling down.

Yes you may kill hundreds of zombies in your tank at first, but eventually you will run out of shells, run out of fuel, and you cannot survive indefinitely in a small metal box.

All this mech talk makes me want to get back into the mechwarrior gaming genre. Anyone got any good suggestions?

If it's SSD detection issue, try plugging the SSD into another computer to check if it's working normally.
Also try plugging another drive into your laptop to see if the laptop is detecting other drives correctly.
The mSata-interface doesn't recognize the SSD. It's a common error among ThinkPads,
except not on my particular line.

Yesterday, after rebooting from hibernation into the HDD OS,
the SSD got detected (according to windows),
but with zero space on it. Then, after a reboot, it vanished again.

I don't have any other mSata-slot anywhere to test it. Except, MAYBE, in my other notebook,
but then there's something connected to it already. I have never checked.
I really believe the card is still alive.

It's def. no space-issue. More of a hardware/bios-failure, but nobody knows for certain .. not even Lenovo.

Wow, i've bought some crap ... but i like it. xD

    Oh mSata, yuck.
That's gonna make it quite tricky to find where the fault is.

You really need to find another mSata capable computer to test the drive on, or another mSata drive to test the laptop with. From the information you've given us it would be impossible to tell whether the SSD or the laptop's mSata interface is faulty.

From what you've described though, it sounds as if the SSD has become corrupted during an unexpected power loss and needs reformatting. Can you detect the drive through device manager or disk manager?

It's also a possibility that you have had a BIOS failure, but I think that is less likely.

I've been playing MechWarrior Online and War Thunder for a while now.

They're decent games that offer great action and PvP, but have been broken to various degrees by their latest patches. I've taken a break from MWO until they bring in HSR for ballistics, PPC and missiles (next month or so), and taken a break from WT until they fix the economy (next few weeks).

My alt received a warning for this a couple days ago. A player petitioned me for decloaking him, not generating lag. However, I was still formally warned for doing this and all drones were despawned. Upon petitioning the warning I was told that although the petition wasn't for lag, it was decided that my drones were creating lag which is against the EULA. So the warning stuck despite no one complaining about lag or even noticing any.

My experience with petitions is pretty consistent tbh. The "good guy" (carebear, bot, new player) typically gets his stuff back and the "bad guy" (aggressor or anyone with negative sec status) gets nothing except warnings/bans. It doesn't matter what it is. In the case of bad guy vs bad guy, "the logs show nothing."

You cannot honestly say that spamming the gate with a carrier's worth of light drones is a legitimate tactic. As one low sec pirate to another: you deserved that warning.

    -Liang

I'm gonna argue the point here and state that is as legitimate a tactic as MWD+cloak

    --
@ James, yes, it is a carrier or two's worth of drones. Ideally you need to create a Dyson sphere of drones spaced about 2km apart, with a radius of 12-13km.
It takes a lot of drones and a lot of time to set up correctly. Far more time and effort for instance, than would be required to send a scout through or simply check the map for pirate activity.

I just love the general consensus that pirates should get creative with how we get PvP, and then when we actually decide to think outside the box like with dirty bubbles or boomerang tactics we get banhammers instead :p

  • New Craze That Id Like To Know It It's Considered An Exploit. in EVE Communication Center

I received two formal warnings for this tactic and then had an account temp-banned.
    So yes, it's an exploit.

I pestered the GM as to why exactly, the official stance seems to be that it's not technically an exploit unless it 'creates lag', and all a GM needs is anecdotal evidence to determine you are 'creating lag'

    ie it goes like this:
    1) You setup awesome camp and crush cloaky assholes legitimately
    2) Cloaky ******* petitions his loss and says he died before loading grid due to 'drone lag'
    3) Your camp is now illegitimate
    4) Your drones are despawned by GM and you are given formal warning
    5) You argue the point and remake your camp and then your first account gets temp banned and your alt gets a formal warning.

or at least in my experience anyway

  • Your top three sci-fi shows of all time. in EVE Communication Center

    I guess

    1) BSG 2004 (been watching it over the last year, just started season 4, so epic)
    2) Star Trek TNG (last three seasons plus the borg/Q episodes)
    3) Firefly or Falling Skies. Firefly was great but v shortlived, falling skies is decent, but a little cliched, it has some cool sci-fi concepts though and a perfect setting, so if the cast/crew 'find their groove' for the third season it could become something great.

    Other goodies:
Dollhouse is actually quite good in it's entirety. It would have gotten in my top 3 if my top 3 wasn't so long winded already. This show sorta starts out mediocre but rapidly improves towards the end of season 1 and start of season 2 to become a bundle of epic sci-fi goodness. This is another Whedon idea like firefly that got the chop from the network, but luckily they had an extra season and a little more notice, so the show doesn't feel clipped like firefly or SG:U does.

SG:U. I enjoyed this, just wish they had got to do more with it really. Also I found the whole plotline towards the end of the show to be just :wtf:

    Red Dwarf: duh

    Cowboy Bebop: shuddup it counts

Doctor Who: I could never truly consider this a great sci-fi show, I dunno why, I guess I thought it was just too light. However I gotta say that series 4 and onwards have been awesome, (the opener for season seven was great :D) and I'd probably rate it quite highly these days.

The Walking Dead: Zombies are science! If you care to refute that, a portion of the show involved a scientist using a computer so that's sci-fi right there.

  • Are any assault frigates good for PvE? in EVE Gameplay Center

I've used an ishkur w/ dual drone damage mods for most small deadspace sites. Pretty much like a poor mans/noobs ishtar I guess.
It does pretty well, just burn away from everything and let the drones go wild, nice mobile ship for spamming lowsec deadspace sites looking for faction spawns.

Why would anybody choose the second option?

    IMO the risks should be:
    - Fit the injector (with smaller charges) and have virtual immunity to neuts
    - Don't fit the injector and face the possibility of being neuted out.

Either way, the booster itself is still better than the best deadspace booster. You've got ******* epic tank as long as your charges hold out.

    -Liang

Ed: Also, let's just be real. What people are actually fitting is dual ASBs, oversized ASBs, and dual oversize ASBs.

With the proposed changes will the booster reload faster, or will you allow them to draw 100% from the capacitor while still reloading?

That's really the only way I can see it working. If anything you are more vulnerable to neuts than a normal booster as you have to ensure two sources of capacitor are supplied instead of the traditional one, and deaspace grade boost is utterly useless when you're reloading for 60 seconds.

I am being real anyway, I know that dual ASB are the way to go, but we're talking about your proposed 'fix' here, which incorporates among other things a nerf to fitting dual/oversize ASB
