  • Sort Dragon for CSM XII in Council of Stellar Management

With this thread I submit to you the player base my intent to run for csm 12.

This would be my 3rd run for csm. I was a member of csm 8 and csm 10. I would like to say I had complete success on both my terms on csm but I will begrudgingly admit that I also had faults and failures. I would say this year is my chance to show that I am still good at what I know and still have the ability to share it with people on the csm and ccp and especially with you the players. I do not believe I deserve it just because I have been a csm before and run a coalition. I believe I should be elected for what I can bring to the table.

In game I run a moderately sized coalition called Guardians of the Galaxy, GOTG for short. We have also been referenced in the past as Dumpster Co (which I personally prefer but that is just me.) I am CEO of darkness alliance a former member of Stain Wagon and N3 coalition. I am famous for speaking my mind and not always being totally diplomatic, I am also famous or infamous for being a backstabber. I gave up not long ago trying to defend this because I came to the realisation that if that is how people see me then they are welcome to their opinions. I can be abrasive but to people in my coalition I am known to be open to talking to if and when needed.

On discord I run a server called the blue donut. In this server is content creators and fc’s and some leaders from all round the game I have spent a lot of the time in there to help connect both current csmers and past csmers with a voice direct to leaders and fcs in this game. During csm 10 I submitted 10s of pages of information direct from these people straight to ccp I would intend to do this again should I be reelected. Should I not be elected I will still aim to provide this same source of information and communication with whomever the player base elects.

What I stand for and what I believe in:

I am a strong advocate for 0.0 but during my time I have tried nearly everything there is in eve online. Mostly to success and some to horrible failures. I am a fierce advocate of new players entering the game and our closest ally is pandemic horde the biggest New player alliance in the game. A lot of people have asked why GOTG or darkness does not run an Alpha or newbro program and the answer is in 2 parts.
    1) Because we would be **** at it.
    2) Because we would prefer to send people to an ally and or someone who knows what they are doing than risk hurting them and running them from the game.

    My platform.

After 3 years I am going to say the same thing I did on the last forum thread like this. I run on a platform of listening. I want to work with ccp to point out possible conflict points but also to provide answers and help towards bettering the game as a whole. I do not run to better myself. I have been at the top and bottom of this game I am using this time to give back to the player base.

    Me as a person:

In my personal life I am married to a beautiful wife and have recently become a father to a beautiful baby boy. I have frequented multiple player meets and gotten to know hundreds of players and families of players. I may be considered by some to be an ******* in eve but when you get to know me it's known I don’t actually bite. I am more of a hugger.

This year is going to be a hard fought election I hope you consider me for the post. Thank you for reading.

Man what is to say about this man that hasn't already been said.

In the past I have been as close as possible to this man and he know his ****. He is a great player. He can be krass but he is direct and to the point.

Aside from our candidate he will have GOTG's full support on the ballot.

I am glad he is running.

As a prior 2 term csm member I fully support this guy.

I have worked with and against him on multiple things in game.

I sign this letter in the hope we can help them get the continued support they need just like many other countries and cultures from the global EVE community.

  • Project: Aegis Sov FAQ in Council of Stellar Management

With the summit coming up and starting this weekend it has come to my attention that a lot of details and the small parts of aegis sov may have slipped through the cracks and people may not be clear on how Aegis sov works.

With this in mind I have been in contact with people at ccp and am using my connections as a csm to try and facilitate the making of list of frequently asked questions with answers for both the Attacker and Defender. These questions I aim to submit to ccp and in turn they have agreed to take the time to answer them so we have a lasting list of questions and answers for those who may in the future need a quick go to for aegis sov.

I am here to ask you as the player base to submit to me questions regarding the mechanics of aegis sov that you think people would need to know if they were going to attack or defend entosis sov.

With me doing this it does not mean I agree or disagree with how sov is or what it could be. For the sake of this FAQ I am impartial, this is simply an attempt by me to give people the chance to come to me with questions that you would ask yourself when you were taking or defending sov under the current mechanic. I will be limiting the questions to 20 per side, 20 for an attacker 20 for a defender this is to not overload people too much. I will update the list as I see good questions come in from this thread of from external sources.

Please post your questions below in this thread or mail them to me in game. I hope to populate this list as quickly as possible with the aim to hopefully submit this to ccp during the summit.

    The Questions:

    Attackers:

    1. If you Kill an IHUB in a system with a military index, will the index stay up if you launch a new ihub before the next downtime?
    2. Do the defenders get an alert at the start or end of my warmup cycle?

  • CCP/CSM Round Table: Jump Fatigue in Council of Stellar Management

    Good day fellow Players

Now that jump fatigue has been out a while, CCP are setting up to take another swing at the mechanics they released in the phoebe update.

With this in mind CCP Larrikin has asked for a round table to be setup for players to give feedback and ask questions regarding jump fatigue. This will take place on a teamspeak server on Wednesday 12th August at 17.00 eve time. We hope to also stream this on twitch at the same time but no guarantees.

    The Setup.

During the round table itself we expect the discussion to be quite heated at times due to this we the csm as a whole are hoping to moderate the server to keep the discussion going. With this in mind we are asking you to submit questions in advance, doing this will be of great help to us and Larrikin. After we have covered these questions we will then move on to other questions and feedback from people who are on the teamspeak server itself.

    Submitting Questions.

When you are submitting questions we ask that you keep them constructive and on topic yet as short as possible to allow for as many questions to be answered during the round table. We also ask that you keep the thread as clean as possible and clear of any unnecessary moaning so we can wade through the many posts that we expect to be seeing. Alongside this if you do not want to submit your questions in the thread itself you can also send questions to your own csm representative ingame.

We would like to close submissions of questions on Sunday the 9th of August at 23:59. This gives us the csm a chance to make sure we get all the questions into a document and submitted to CCP Larrikin first thing Monday morning giving him time to formulate answers before the Wednesday round table. After closing of submissions we will aim to have the question list we submit to larrikin up on a google document for you all to see and prepare for on Wednesday

    After the Round table:

This round table will be recorded and uploaded on sound cloud for people who can’t attend alongside this a written transcript attached to this thread in the days following the round table.

Details on how to listen in.

For those wanting to listen in to the townhall you can keep track by listening on twitch at http://www.twitch.tv/spectrefleet this is to give easy access to people to listen in.

Well has something come to light that contradicts Rise's statement? Which particular ships outside of Ishtar and Domi are using sentries/drones to OP effect? Where's the data to back this all up? What do the CSM say on this (if anything?)

Nothing here contradicts Rise's statement. The biggest issue was definitely the Ishtar hull, and the hull is still a significant component of the issue. That's why we made a much larger adjustment to the Ishtar last release (cutting its sentry damage bonus in half) than these changes to the drones. While the results of that Ishtar change is still playing out, we're continuing to make more adjustments to the overall sentry ecosystem with these changes. We also won't rule out more changes to the hull (and to other non-hull aspects of this whole picture) in the near future, but we aren't ready for more of those in Carnyx quite yet.

Sentries are an extremely strong weapon system, and their strength has really shown itself in the past years as we hit the critical mass required for players to improve their tactics for using them. At the moment they are a bit too good on essentially every ship that has a drone damage bonus and at least 125mbits bandwidth (with Ishtars the most obvious offender, but Domis, carriers, VNIs, Rattlesnakes and Geddons all affected), which is why we're making some moderate changes to the drones in Carnyx.

I'll let individual CSM members share their opinions if they wish, but every member of the CSM that provided any comment on these changes pushed for larger nerfs. The version of these changes that I first showed the CSM was a bit milder, but they convinced me to give it a bit more teeth.

Like Fozzie has stated we were consulted about this and the nerf suggested was less than posted at the start of this thread and after discussions between us and ccp, fozzie upped the nerf a bit. Speaking for myself I am satisfied that ccp realises the issue with sentries and the boats that get direct bonus's to these and instead of following the old way of doing things and just nerfing these ships into nonexistance they are actually trying to apply a nerf but still make them usefull if you so chose to use them.

Indeed I have, unfortunatly people are harder to teach and the fatigue system is not the easiest to understand.

Well with all due respect to you as a major alliance leader holding 0.0 sov, but I feel as the issue isn't the jump fatigue but rather people's gameplay habits. Jump fatigue is what is keeping 0.0 much more divided and conflict driven. Why would you want to limit that? What is "too harsh" in your mind?

In my mind over a days fatigue is too much. Most fights aside from maybe 1-2 in the past 2 years are over in under 24 hours stacking the most fatigue at 1 day is more than enough, why stop people from wanting to login due to not being able to join any fleet in your alliance for 30 days because you made a mistake and find it hard after that mistake not to wait over and up to a week or more.

Well honestly Sort, the major reason with fatigue, particularly your coalition is that you're trying to fight on two fronts to defend a fairly vast empire. So yes you have members that get 30 day jump fatigue but what do you expect when you fight both in Delve/Fountain and the south?

See that is not true. Most of my guys who have 30 days fatigue come from basic travel around Delve, we rarely take titans or jump bridges far out of delve. We probe wormholes which we have in abundance and then use them. It would be nice to have a fatigue bonus inside of your own sov to help with defence, outside of that I do believe it should be effected for sure.

But please tell me more about how much alliance has fatigue from 2 fronts. :)

First, I'm a little bit drunk.

Second, I think you were "in office" while I was just starting my eve career and I just want to know if it is true that you started a war over comments made at Fan Fest. If so, do you think it was a good idea and do you regret doing. I am just asking because I think honesty and openness is a big part of being a successful CSM. I don't care one way or the other because I just want to hear it from the horse's mouth to turn a phrase.

Third, I am a solo "carebear" player that likes to mine roids and explore highsec and lowsec. Do you think that making mining anoms non-scannable has hurt carebear mining?

Furthermore, would you agree that switching WH anoms and mining anoms would help. For example, making WH anoms show up like mining anoms do now and changing mining anoms to a thing that has to be scanned down. I feel, yes I used the word feel, that right now mining anoms enables gankers and un-enables people whom might want to explore WH? Changing WH anoms to an open warp to mechanic could give WH more action, do you believe that changing them would help or hurt the game?

Lastly, I think that the jump fatigue is a good thing and even though I have never fought in a large battle or been a part of a fleet that jumped across the galaxy to fight in a "news worthy" fight that JF is good for the whole of the game. Again, I just want to hear a response from a person whom has done these things and is running to represent me. There is no wrong answer.

Sorry for my lack of answering, I had monday, tuesday as my weekend with the wife!

The war I wanted never started due to my own self making comments at fanfest that in itself helped to bring down the coalition I was at that time at the helm of.

Do I regret it, nope not at all. Some of the things I said at fanfest I am disappointed in myself for saying some of the things I did. I generally do not like to talk eve when I meet people in real life. And even though my wife told me on numerous occasions to shut my mouth I did not. I have never hid anything regarding that time just that their is 2 sides to every story and my side I should have been more vocal or in some cases less vocal.

Regarding your last point, in some ways fatigue has helped the game a lot but in other ways it has really hindered it. I never agreed with the mass power projection of the old days but I find myself leading an alliance of newer, older and mid level players and with this I find that people are ending up knee deep in fatigue that they should not have simply because the system that could have been quite easily adapted to be a whole lot simpler. The unfortunate thing is that ccp is never known for doing things the simpler way they always over extend then nerf back towards what they want. I had hoped that if they made some jump changes it would not end up in some pilots with 30 days without being able to jump and the only way to combat that being log out for 30 days or fly the whole time in a frig.

In summary as I may have gotten a bit off topic with your last question I do believe the idea behind the concept of fatigue was good but the implementation like we see with ccp every time was poor and not completely thought out.

I think a medium needs to be found where the people assigning fighters put themselves more on the line and the people who use drones are not unbeatable that it kills any potential for fights small to large scale.

I am not sure how to fix it at all but along side the sentries issue I still have a big issue with anyone being able to control anyone elses ships damage. I believe that any type of game play where you can afk and do nothing is not good game design. The more ships on grid the more people have to put them at risk.

The only good I do see from fighter assign is letting 1 side be able to semi even the playing field with another bigger group of players, this however does not outweigh the issues with assign and drone mechanics in general.

I'm reading from this that you agree the current ability for Carriers and Supers to assign DPS to a different grid than the one they're on, and just sit next to a POS ready to dump the shield up is something that needs changing- is that an accurate conclusion? Would you be in favour of a straight up removal of the ability to assign fighters to a player on a different grid from yourself?

I do like the ability for assigned fighters to effect fights where the people you are against outnumber you by a huge amount, so no I do not want it completely removed however I do not believe you should be a loud to camp gates with drones assigned or rat with drones assigned. I want to see more to be done to see people be able to use supers and carriers more but at the same time put them in a position of threat.

I myself own a super and I like being able to use it to sometimes level the playing field when I am against a lot of hostiles but at the same time I do not want to kill the fight because people are too afraid of them.

    Try me.

To me, your OP makes me feel like you've blown this all off as a trivial necessity to be eligible for CSMX, and are completely apathetic towards inspiring people outside our your coalition to vote for you. So let's try this again, and let's keep it really simple.

First question: Why should I vote for you instead of someone like Manfred Sideous, Sion Kumitomo, or Endie von Posts?

Second question: If you are not running as a bloc candidate, are you going to encourage the pilots of your own alliance to educate themselves before voting, or are you going to present your allies a prefilled ballot and ask them to tow the party line?

Wow Jayne i'm surprised you didn't ask him if he steal beats his wife. Roll Plus isn't "tow the party line" SOP from entities such as the CFC that backed you last year? Straight

Serious question here to Sort, how do you envision your ideal version of sov mechanics? What would you change? What do you like currently?

I myself miss the old pos mechanics for sov, after having been through the whole of dominion I miss the old dynamics of pos sov. The chance to have fights at what could be all times of the day and the chance for both sides to play tug of war. This does not mean that I would go back to fuelling 100+ towers a month to hold sov but I would like something a long the lines that allows people small groups who are not harassing but genuinely want a home in 0.0 to have the ability to do so.

I see that being possible under the rumours of occupancy sov but I can see there being a lot of issues alongside this.

Diversity on the CSM is important to me. Echoing Jayne's question: what would a CSM without you, but with Manny, Sion, and Endie on it lack due to you not being on it? What unique perspective do you bring that makes you a valued addition to the CSM as opposed to squeezing out a voice from, say, lowsec, w-space, smaller null entities, etc.?

That is an interesting question and to be fair I think Manny is a great candidate this time and I doubt I would be able to get more votes then him anyway. The interesting thing to look at though is that Manfred does not run an alliance that holds sov to live in sov for his members. Sion and Endie however do but at the same time they both look at different aspects in the game, Sion who is very diplomatic and endie who has in the past had his hand in that also.

I would never say that I am better then anyone else because that would be stirring the pot and trying to create a fight with other candidates and this I will not be apart of. I will allow voting to dictate who they believe in the list is better suited. If I do not get in I will accept the people have spoken and possibly try again for csm 11.

The game has gone full circle from 4+ years ago where the NC used to assign fighters to fight insurgency and tri, it was a strange mechanic back then and a strange mechanic now. I believe the so called nerf is a band aid and will not change much with the mechanic itself. I think a medium needs to be found where the people assigning fighters put themselves more on the line and the people who use drones are not unbeatable that it kills any potential for fights small to large scale.
