By doing what? Putting a chastity cage on tutu and replacing ganking with more arenas?

Sorry, but if the player count is anything to go by, EVE was at its greatest when no one needed your express consent to shoot at you. You should’ve just said “to make EVE great,” because at least then you could’ve made the argument that the game would become great under _your_ vision, sans any of that pesky forced player interaction. Saying “_again_” means that the game was better _before_, but if you go back in time, there was _more_ “sociopathic griefing” as your lot is wont to call it, not less.

And since you seem to have just spent the past few hours complaining about the peeveepees, I’m questioning your commitment to this Trumpian initiative.

1. it is fascinating how some people are unable to differentiate between a proposal and a commandment… I just gave a proposal. If you are doing something which doesn’t work (any more) it is worth trying something else and see if this works better still making fun. If his main fun driver is PVP welping a ship, this might work… in case his main fun driver is flying a bling ship, then you are right, my proposal will probably fail… but please give him a chance to try it out himself before blaming me.

2. what privileges are you talking about?

3. in case all PVP would be done in T2 fitted ships only, the main result will be that bling modules will drop in price. But this will not happen as once prices drop people would start using them more which would rise the price again.

Thats not the point. Null bears still made a disproportionate amount of wealth for very little risk.

The risk/reward was broken. That’s why the DBS has lowered bounties in null but has increased them in lowsec.

But nullbears don’t want balance. Cynos were nerfed. Afk cloaking was nerfed. They kept their precious local and they **still** spat out their dummy when their rewards were nerfed.

That doesn’t really count, that’s a specialized activity that was always here, but is just in a different spot now. If you played the markets before the change, you just adapted the same specialization to the change, so the core gameplay doesn’t really budge.

Yea, except, who does mining ops in low sec apart from large pirate cartels ? Haven’t you noticed all the bored nullbears inflating lowsec pirate population of late ? Having lived in low for most of my eve career, I can safely say that this specialization on its own isn’t viable, unless you join said cartel for protection, or pay them certain dues. Don’t get me wrong, it was a really good idea on paper, but given how people usually respond to juicy targets roaming around low for spacerocks, Id say it was a very poorly thought out change.

Three of which come from highsec. This is a specialisation. Same thing with the new components. Industrial players can specialise in their construction.

That may be, but not having been around to experience that change with my indy pilot, I can’t say for sure how far into real specialization this sets players to as opposed to before.
I do know that before, people still had to specialize to get into specific ship construction, but that the change made it a lot more tedious for certain ships. Again, this might be another case of a specialization that existed before but that simply got extended.

That, I agree with.

ESS is not new, and has been around for 7 years. They recently updated it making it more viable to specialize in, sure, but it’s definitely not “brand new” gameplay.

> [@Daichi\_Yamato](#):
>
> Tell me one area of the game that is _LESS_ specialised or niche by scarcity?

Sure,

Exploration.

Prior to Odyssey, it was a lot more specialized, niche and profitable.

After Odyssey, it became a bit more accessible, less niche, and so less profitable.

Now, with the Agency’s exploration streamlining and “quality of life” changes made a couple years ago, competition exploded and the activity is now a total joke in terms of niche and specialization standards.
What was my 2nd best activity in the game, became a cheap, overused, wasted effort.

And I have a second one for you:

Mercenary wars.

I was with Repo Industries back then, a top tier Merc group.
We used to go out of our way tracking and hunting targets in hisec, and lowsec sometimes, since the watchlist was still a thing. Ever since CCP removed it, and gave us nothing else but the middle finger afterwards, that kind of specialized activity died off and resulted in hisec Mercs camping high traffic stations, and hardly nothing else. The wardec changes with structures also affected this activity pretty hard, and coupled with the changes to make structures more scarce and less accessible, even harder …

I could go on to write a second chapter on many more passed specialized activities that died off due to constant poorly thought-out nerfs and streamlining, if you want …

>
> The same goes for all these QQ posts. Scarcity is a bitter pill to swallow, but it is _still medicine_. If this medicine makes you quit, it means you are the cancer CCP are trying to kill.

Excessive null farming was indeed a huge problem, but again like I said previously, the human element was always the wrong target, and top-down, restrictive, punishing and infantilizing changes were not the way to go, and rejection from the null community was clearly predictable.

You don’t have children of your own I’m willing to bet ?

It should have instead edged towards more organic changes, ones that works from ground up and starts by treating people like adults, and not some dumb cows to be milked monetization from, nor cancerous children to be eradicated. That kind of mentality from a game’s owning company and partisan players such as yourself, completely kills a game to the ground, and Ive seen it happen too many times the larger part of my mmo carreer.

Clearly, more effort put into a better thought-out SOV mechanic could’ve have helped **a lot more** towards a more dynamic null ownership system, and prevent too much territorial stagnation and supply accumulation.

Scarcity is just another one of those top-down, tight-fisted, punishing acts, and will most likely not go the way intended, by rejection.

What was that famous Princess Leia quote ? Ah yes,

_“The more you tighten your grip Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”_

Let that sink in for a minute or two.

Perhaps not the most effective quote if you take into consideration that Alderaan explodes very shortly after Leia says that.

Whatever was taken away from players was taken from everyone else, too. It’s a shock to the economy, sure, but people will adapt to whatever is available. PLEX doesn’t make money out of thin air. ISK still has to be made by someone, and the ultimate value in PLEX is in extending your subscription or spending it in the store on skins and such. Unless CCP has forgotten this, any ‘cash grab’ using PLEX as a basis is going to have to be based on getting people to redeem PLEX for in game goods or subscriptions sold in their store.

No clue. But that sure looks like a history question. So if i know who created the Model T so i must be an engineer right?

If you have studied economics, like i think you’re suggesting you have, then you are probably making the same mistakes that Teckos Pech, a very knowledgeable economist, did by thinking that eve’s economy works like the real world economy. And whilst many of the rules are the same, the settings are completely different.

So you’re agreeing with me when i say this:

> [@Daichi\_Yamato](#):

Because some people have either failed or refused to adapt. And that is the crux of the complaints about scarcity. The gameplay hasn’t budged for mining, ratting or anything.

> [@Verlyn](#):
>
> Yea, except, who does mining ops in low sec apart from large pirate cartels ?

I do. Solo miners do. Where before it was just moon mining, now anoms and belts are worthy of mining. And that’s only because nocx and iso can’t easily be found elsewhere.

A vent in low sec can make better isk/h mining in low than an exhumer in hisec.

Has been revamped a few times but hasn’t succeeded.

If you have a better idea for sov then I’ll see you in FANDI. If you don’t, then these words of yours are meaningless.

Yeah that’s old eve. Gameplay that gave players meaningful choices and then expected you to take responsibility for them.

But that too was rejected by bears.

Except, once ingame isk generation starts to bleed out, the system is at risk of falling apart.

Compared to how much isk/h mining them in an exhumer in hisec before ? What’s really changed ? The risk of losing a venture vs the reward ? Isn’t CODE ganking still a thing in hisec ?

I mean Sure, I guess, you could still be way more profitable joining or being friends with the local pirate gang, but to each their own playstyle.

Generally speaking though, people tend to like their specialized niches for what they are, and to be as profitable as possible, and when that’s taken away from them from some top-down questionable motive, they reject it en masse.

You wanted an example of scarcity, I gave you one.

Exploration profits now, compared to before 2013, are **considerably** more negligible, and hence more scarce as in, not even worth putting the time to find.

If it didn’t succeed clearly means it wasn’t the right idea, with all things considered.

I may have had a few ideas in mind, but then again I don’t have the pretention to be as good a space designer as some other people.

You do seem to want to take first dump on the human element a lot though, I certainly don’t, and most definitely not as a golden rule, so why don’t you try giving us an idea first ?

Hint: One that doesn’t involve the disdain for human nature, nor the whips and shackles …

some? a lot of? -player’s choice is to do pve to afford their PVP you know. But what is the value of something subjective^2 as you say: “proportionate”?

also you talk about risk/reward… please just stop that nonsense.
there isn’t any added reward to the DBS, it’s only added risk. The risk/reward is more broken now than it ever was before.

Indeed. But don’t expect the great depression and bread lines in an economy where everyone is self employed, can build their own cars from the stuff they find in their backyard, no mouths to feed, free housing and electricity and unlimited storage.

The elasticity of supply and demand in eve combined with the mobility and trainability of it’s work force is quite simply incomparable to the real world.

Not as much as pre-inferno and pre-orca buff. Ganking is more difficult.

And lowsec is too lawless for cartels to really protect you. I can make a deal with whomever, but no one can really stop Johnny-McStratios taking out a mining gang with his buddies from WeLoveIPatches and Co. It’s not like null with bubble camps and the bad guys can’t dock.

I don’t doubt that. But this was never a question of ‘_will they reject it or not_’ and always a question of necessity.

You clearly do:

CCP always said scarcity was temporary.

I mean the massive amounts of wealth proportion to population. Check an old MER.

Not in low sec. All bounties are up because it’s more difficult to farm there.

Players divide themselves with their opinion.

You can read the blackout announcements threads or the afk cloaking sticky thread to see such a divide that was created with little help from me.

I don’t, what I mentioned was merely an intent, not a design proposal.

Temporary until what, the isk supply diminishes enough to call in the dormant whales and open the taps again ?

Then, we’d have to resort to that heresy, that unhealthy farming simulator once again, providing there will be enough farmers left in the game to answer the demand.

The game is also nowhere near where it was back a decade ago, and very unlikely to grow in population, so that won’t help either.

Has CCP even officially stated what the plan is beyond scarcity … ?

Until the servers shut down…

That’s when the scarcity phase will be over… 😉

Of course, scarcity is an illusion they’re giving to make us believe they have it all under control, they don’t.
