Same but…

You got to get with the program and upgrade yourself to fit in with 2020.

Aside from that, what are you trying to say? Spreading good? On that alone EVE with it’s plex for good programs has shown many times that the community cares. There are many EVE based initiative run by players that are the there to support members in RL, even if it just to have somebody to talk to.

I don’t doubt that every gaming community has that. And while EVE might have this persona of being cut throat dog eat dog… or man eat man… 🙂 Bad news sells right? So those are the stories people hear the most. X scams Y for Z amount… celebrations… but the larger community as a hole is different with these good initiatives going largely by the wayside.

So what point are you trying to make? Everybody already knows the good that eve does. many just chooses to ignore it as it it does not fit their narrative to complain about EVE.

Very good post sir. However, I think that support for “broken” players should be a very personal choice. I spent about a year in Arnon between 2019 and early 2020 teaching kids doing the SOE epic arc how to D-Scan and skill into good weapon systems, before sending them off toward FW with a few million ISK.
That is just what I like to do when there is no FW content.

As for forgiveness… I have an idea for gank victims. The gankers still get their profit, but insurance can be higher payout for unlawful kills in highsec. For example…
A person pays for platinum insurance on their Slasher. It gets ganked in highsec by a Vargur.
Oh no, the poor Slasher pilot would only get 210,000 ISK in insurance. Insurance should be awarded on a multiplier scale based on the location and circumstances surrounding it.
A ganked procurer might get 1.5x insurance in 1.0 highsec, but would only get 0.75x insurance being ganked in nullsec. There can be a whole set of ranges for that. A T1 cruiser in a fleet fight would probably only get 50% of the insurance because of initiated combat in null. This would be a pretty easy way to forgive players who lose a lot in a gank. (Modules not included, of course).

> Well fun is something good and the most common reason why people are playing computer games. But fun has its borders and cant be a goal for a long term motivation. Computer games need a higher value which make them worth playing even if they dont make fun anymore. The most common goal nearly anyone will agree is to do something good. And computer games can and should take its responsebility in this world and take the chance to become the most powerful force of good in the world. Lets make computer games something we can be proud of, something we can tell our childrens of, something that changed the destiny of the world to the better. Lets raise our flag and show the world the power of computer games.

Well, there’s a lot wrong with your perspective on the matter.

You get points for trying, though!

> [@Hans-Joerg\_Seiler](#):
>
> Well fun is something good

No. Fun is fun. It’s not “something good”. We, which includes you,
are not children who simplify things down to good/bad and be done with it.

> [@Hans-Joerg\_Seiler](#):
>
> the most common reason why people are playing computer games.

No. People can play computer games for other reasons, too. For example, because they make them feel uneasy and scare them. Arguments like “well that’s because it’s fun for them” doesn’t change that you can’t abuse the word “fun” like this.

Example: Me. For me, this game isn’t fun at all. Some things can be fun, but most of the time it’s rather annoying. I still love playing it for a variety of reasons, but _fun_ definitely isn’t what I’m playing it for. Generally do I play games _for the challenge_ and the eventually resulting _satisfaction_ (which is something completely different!), and not because they’re fun.

You’re simplifying a pretty complex matter into something a child could comprehend, which is great, but we’re not children. We’re adults.

> [@Hans-Joerg\_Seiler](#):
>
> Computer games need a higher value which make them worth playing even if they dont make fun anymore.

So why do you come here and tell _us_ about it, instead of making a thread at the wow forums? They have millions of players! Why do you pick _this_ game for expressing your messiah complex, instead of any of the others with far more players?

> [@Hans-Joerg\_Seiler](#):

You’re doing this oversimplification again.

Why don’t you tell that to them and see how it goes?

We already have plenty to be proud of. I, for one, would prefer if not every game was made solely for the reasons of “fun” and “good”, because that ends up as “shallow” and “boring” eventually, just like how the video gaming industry looks nowadays.

That some politicians copy what some of us do in this game is nothing to be proud of 😜

But joking aside…

EvE, a game universe with a slight degree of notoriety regarding play styles inside this universe, is a friendship machine. Being able to count on other pilots in times of adversity and loss creates strong bonds that often become friendships in real life, from one end of the globe to the other. Of that, at least, we, or better the makers of this game, can be proud.

Good and bad are relative. Subjective. Depends on your perspective.

In a conflict of any scale both parties, be it 1vs1 or alliance vs alliance fight for their own good. It’s not like one side is objectively good and another is objectively bad.

All of the mammals play games. Earning life experience, trying different survival strategies in safe conditions, determining a place in hierarchy, testing the boundaries of socially accepted behavior.

Good and Bad is something that can be objectivly be measured and that depends on who you are, what you do and how you feel.

I will have a look on that, but still going to say that I think every reason why a person is playing a game is because of something good to reach or something bad to avoid. But having a look on what this is in detail seems to be interesting.

Actually those are more likely to be psychopaths.
Narcissists, due to their nature, are unable to keep followers.
That’s not even a “usually unable”. They’re unable.

Narcissists can’t keep themselves from exploding in rage about others for long.

If you’re looking for narcissists,
look at raging carebears who got ganked,
and at those who cry “think of the children”.
