My Elite Spaceships all have bobbleheads and amusing swears spelled out in fridge magnet like letters.

Seriously, check their store.

Elite is one of those games where I WANT to give the Devs more of my money, so I bought all the silly stuff. Can’t wait to see what new cool things we can customise once we have space legs.

> What amuses me - CCP did almost all the work but instead of monetizing it and getting their returns they just… scrapped it. Such a waste.

Because the cost of maintaining it was too high in terms of resources and the client bloat wasn’t great either

CCP didn’t write all of the engine they used for WiS, so they had to rely on a 3rd party company to do that, and i don’t think that particular company actualyl bothered updating the tools they were using so that meant CCP would have had to, meaning it just wasn’t worth it, so sure they could have slapped some MTX on it but with it no doubt ending up buggy and janky there really wasn’t much point

Not to mention the low player uptake, WiS doesn’t actually improve the speed at which you perform tasks in EVE it just slows them down, and in a game where speed is money, well you see where this is going, people don’t want to end up spending longer to list items on the market or refit ships or, well, anything, if CCP were to suddenly just add an extra pointless 5 second delay to every docked action you perform (switching ships, opening the market, browsing your hangar, talking to agents etc) would you actually be happy with that?

Hell no you wouldn’t, the trade-off alone just isn’t worth it for the majority of people, so it would still not be adopted by most of the playerbase meaning it would still end up in the dumpster alongside Dust and project nova

EVE is a case in point of the folly of space legs. Everyone who has ever played a spaceship game has thought “Wouldn’t it be neat if you could walk in the stations and ships?”. It does seem neat. The problem is that when you’ve got a game whose gameplay systems relate entirely to the spaceships, there is no gameplay reason to actually walk around, and all it will amount to is a clunky menu. How does walking around tie to ratting, mining, wormhole exploration, pvp, or whatnot? That’s right, it doesn’t. It would barely interface with the game proper at all.

People fantasized about walking in stations ever since EVE was released in 2003. Over the years, there were various prototypes - I remember CCP showed a bar where you could gamble and whatnot - and then finally Captain’s Quarters was released. It was very limited, but I think it made apparent to both CCP and most players that the big question was “Why?”. There was no gameplay reason to use it. There’s no gameplay reason to go sit around in a bar. All the gameplay systems involve spaceships. I think they were right to cut it.

Its the same as “wouldn’t it be neat if you could walk the city streats, and not only drive in them?”

Walking and driving around in GTA are tightly coupled together. The systems interact. You can shoot the car. The car can run you over. You can use the car to go places and dismount and shoot stuff up. None of this would really apply to a game like EVE. Walking around and flying spaceships would be essentially separate systems and the only reason for the first one to exist is that it kinda seems neat.

Mechanics would need to be created to allow that. If something doesnt exist, it dosnt mean it cant be created.

But certainly not by CCP.

CCP are too weak in knees to handle the load.

I’d really rather they focus on the core game rather than go making new mechanics not because they seem like they’d be fun or meaningful but just to justify a feature that would otherwise be pointless.

Not really, because the mechanic that would be required is “delete 99% of EVE’s systems”. The fundamental issue with WiS was that even if you magically come up with a way to make station activities relevant at all there just isn’t the population density to make them work. A station bar in Jita would have some activity, but in the vast majority of other systems there might be 1-2 players at most in the station doing stuff. And with no other players to interact with those 1-2 players would quickly get bored and leave.

So, you end up with what Elukka said: a really clumsy and inefficient menu system that most players spend 15 minutes playing with and then permanently disable.

This is a lot of far fatched assumptions, maybe because people think you still need to use cloning service for your clone for something, somewhere. Instead, people could teleport, and even rent a ship…

Those systems do not need WIS to be implemented.

In fact, I probably would use such systems directly rather than waste time loading the captains quarters.

I think this served a point i think that if they made it where you put it together yourself and not made it so default where everything was the same i think ti be better for the community. I think that you should have to pay a small amount of isk for each thing in there that you wana put in there like the tv and the couch and everything els there and i think there should be more of a real feeling to it. If your gona do something like this they should not hafe azz it they should do it right.

Lol why are people still arguing about this. It’s not just that 99% of the players dont use it, it’s also that 99% of the players would flip a lid if ANY content was locked behind it. If CCP cant lock content behind it then they really have no way to give it purpose and content without purpose will quite simply flop (as we saw with their previous implementation).

So your answer is NO. A large majority of the eve population would not accept locking content behind WiS so WiS will likely never exist.

Somehow people dont flip a lid when CCP locks things behind paywall or fleet composition or region of gameplay.

I think people would have fun if fun would be a thing to be had. They would get thru for that.
