I’m not going to put any statistical meaning to the number of characters posting in favour or against something in a thread, and neither should you, as a thread like this may either have drawn all the 5 people who really care about this feature and their alts, or it may represent 90% of the ingame players, or anything in between. In short, meaningless.

According to the only statistically meaningful number you could draw from this thread ([3% usage](https://www.eveonline.com/article/preparing-for-the-future-retirement-of-captains-quarters-twitch-integration) of the old CQ) it is as I said. Most people won’t use the CQ.

Unless you _force_ people to use the CQ by locking content behind the CQ, which is even worse than wasting development and maintenance time on this side project.

Yes I’ve read that part already and already responded to it in the same post you quoted. Try to keep up as we’re going in circles:

‘Actual gameplay’ locked behind CQ to force people to use the CQ to get a higher number than 3% is not good game design.

Surely actual gameplay increases the use of any mechanic, and an increase of that for a game company is a good thing?

They have limited funds for investment into code and assets and looking what kind of updates we are getting in EVE, there isnt much funds being spend on that.

CCP is making another attempt at developing “grounbreaking” shooter. So the money are still siphoned out of EVE into side projects.

Sure is!

But if you spend a lot to approve and attract 3% players, versus spending a little to affect 40%, then the latter would make much more sense to do. _(Numbers for example purpose only)_

And in this case, people play EVE for space ships, not 3rd person view avatar gameplay, which would take considerable resources to develop and maintain.

I wonder what percentage of the Eve population participate in high-sec ganking? Bet it’s less than 3% of the playerbase, we should ignore them and call their playstyle meaningless yes? So with that logic, we should just do away with pvp in high-sec and let the majority mine, explore, distribute, and mission in peace.

Right so say for example they wanted to do an expansion that allowed players to use engineering to modify their ships. And another to do a research game, based on the research mini games aready in there.

Slap the CQ as a front end with a couple doors and voila. Looks good, and makes sense cos I aint doing that sort of stuff in my pod if I can do it in hot pants instead.

Sure, sounds good to me!

I’d probably walk around in it, make some screenshots like previous time and then ignore it like previous time.

I’m just not sure if that’s worth the resources.

I did like the view of my avatar with my ship on the background though. (Sadly not an Avatar. 😋)

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):

> CCP obviously disagreed with that. **they** introduced CQ and not even under players’ request

Correct, they introduced it because they were planning to start working on an actual 3rd person based MMO for the World of darkness series they gained access to when they purchased the company White Wolf, that game never ended up happening, so the tech was abandoned

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):
>
> Warframe is kick-arse. _There_ is an MMO whose Devs don’t take the players for vegetables and the game for a cash-cow.

Bwahahahahahaha

Nice joke, know any others?

The game is entertaining, but its built to milk people for cash with massive grinds for literally anything in the game, there is a reason people call it Grindframe, and before you claim “you don’t know what you’re talking about” my 505 hours of playtime would like to make their presence known

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):
>
> It was “rarely used” because CCP didn’t finish it, they didn’t even implement it properly, they started it and abandoned it because it wasn’t going to make them money.

Its a catch 22, people weren’t using it because it lacked features and no features were added because it lacked users, its a cycle that eventually leads to removal

> [@Gerard\_Amatin](#):
>
> The only way the CQ would contain ‘actual content’ that would make _me_ use it, is if CCP changed the game and locked new or old useful content behind the CQ.

Yup, and they won’t lock existing content behind a feature not everyone can run and as a result there can’t be anything meaningful or impactful walled behind the feature, so there ultimately wouldn’t end up being that much interest in the feature

Its why we know the feature wouldn’t be used but alas, some people in this thread aren’t able to work this out, we tried atleast _shrugs_

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):
>
> Many other players do think it’s a good idea.

Citation needed, all i’ve ever seen is a very vocal minority, the vast majority of people i encountered during the time the feature was around commented on how they didn’t see the point in it existing, so do you have some sources for this “many other players”

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):
>
> “Locking” content behind anything is a bad idea. Players just want to get _out_ of their pod once in a while and walk around.

But do they really? can’t say its a desire i’ve ever felt even once in the last 17 years, yes there will be “some” who want to do that, but i think you’re wrong to think that any kind of majority cares about this feature

> [@Cel\_ah\_Vee](#):
>
> You are just one person, this thread is chock-full of players just begging CCP to reintroduce it, finish it and make it good.

See this is the part people on the forums forget, they are a vocal minority, if the forums are your proof of how many people want it then you’ve already lost just based on numbers

> [@Xiombarg\_Ohmsford](#):
>
> So with that logic, we should just do away with pvp in high-sec and let the majority mine, explore, distribute, and mission in peace.

The whole majority/minority argument isn’t even relevant.

Never mind specific features, very few individual gameplay styles are regularly engaged with by a majority of the player base. Examples include faction warfare and wormholes.

Are these aspects of the game an unecessary drain on developer time that would be better spent elsewhere? No.

Didn’t CCP release figures some time ago that revealed the majority of players are actually in hisec, and in NPC corps? If the majority is what matters is that what EVE Online should become at the expense of development and ineration elsewhere? Of couse not.

I’m not a fan of any of the recent Triglavian features at all, but I acknowledge that abyssal space gameplay not occupying the majority of the playerbases attention day in and day out didn’t invalidate developer time and effort on further developments and releases that resulted in Pochven.

What makes EVE Online different from other games is it’s wide and varied range of gameplay available, and it’s inevitable that some areas of the game are going to dominate over others. And none of these different sections of the game exist in separation to the others. That much should be obvious. Why would avatar game play be any different?

That avatar gameplay and CQ still captures the imagination of players _ **a decade** _ after Incarna dropped should tell CCP that a section of their customer base would support them spending some time on researching the potential that exists.

Nobody knows how popular avatar gameplay (with actual gameplay) would be. I don’t know. You don’t know. We each have our opinions, but we don’t know.

CCP might they spent the time to find out.

Its entirely relevant when it comes to how important the group who want CQ back actually is compared to how important they think they are

> [@Bataav](#):
>
> Never mind specific features, very few individual gameplay styles are regularly engaged with by a majority of the player base. Examples include faction warfare and wormholes.

How are you gauging that exactly?

Signal Cartel seems to be busy enough rescuing people stranded in WH space and busy enough to keep the thera WH connections up to date, not to mention groups like Bombers Bar who use WH’s for staging systems etc, so there are plenty who use WH space, faction warfare is mostly just for farming at this point, but it was never really going to be massive, the difference being neither of these really require any active maintenance as they just “work”, i doubt they have spent much in terms of resources on FW in a while outside of occasional bug fixes

> [@Bataav](#):
>
> Didn’t CCP release figures some time ago that revealed the majority of players are actually in hisec, and in NPC corps? If the majority is what matters is that what EVE Online should become at the expense of development and ineration elsewhere? Of couse not.

Difference being, null sec isn’t occupied by only 3% of the playerbase, the numbers here matter

Yup, and now Pochven is pretty much self sustaining, outside of the few issues we have to bug report

> [@Bataav](#):
>
> That avatar gameplay and CQ still captures the imagination of players _ **a decade** _ after Incarna dropped should tell CCP that a section of their customer base would support them spending some time on researching the potential that exists.

The issue is, the percentage of people who would actually use it versus the actual cost of development and maintenance compared to other features, WiS just isn’t worth the cost

>
> Nobody knows how popular avatar gameplay (with actual gameplay) would be. I don’t know. You don’t know. We each have our opinions, but we don’t know.

Nope, but we can take very educated guesses when it comes to mostly spinoff content with no real substance

The problem they ran into at the time was that the player base was against any content that was unique to WiS. The graphics engine was soo bad no one wanted to be “forced” to use it.

Without unique content it had no real purpose.

Also by making the monocle $81 they pissed off the very people who would have supported it.

Since the only rating i could find on [eveonline.com](http://eveonline.com) is PEGI 12…

1. Player housing. With limited space per station. Quarters with a view on 4-4 moon would go for billions! Collectibles, crafting furniture, PREMIUM ITEMS IN PLEX STORE! Add LUA-scriptable items and players could earn isk by programming your new fancy holodesk or vintage household lo-fi record player.

2. Storyline featuring actual story and quests. With cutscenes. Each chapters sold separately.

3. “Visit the legendary _Jacques Atlanins’ Arcade Emporium of Excitement_ on Caille! Buy tickets! Play games! Win prizes\*! Adventure awaits!” \* featuring cosmetic and furniture items. Some assembly required. Jacques Atlanins Inc. are not responsible for any property damage

4. Make planetfall in a struggle for Caldari Prime. Fight epic battles (3 times a day) in Kaalakiota Mountains for control of the vaunted Ashen Mines. Use mechs, summon a great titan CN Resolute or GN Alexandreux to support your forces from orbit. Protect the city of Arcurio, and seize the ruins of the underwater Gallente city of Nouvelle Rouvenor. Four empires will enter, but only one will remain victorious! Until the battle starts over again.

This could be scenario for that new game CCP makes. But I dont think mechs will be included. It will rather be another “groundbreaking” project like the rest side projects from them.

CCP is like that one trick pony, and the trick actually worked only one time.

They aren’t likely to allow LUA scripting on things, CCP know how… creative its playerbase can be lol

And buying housing isn’t likely to be worth that much to them

Seems like a lot of effort for quests that won’t be able to have any meaningful rewards

Well i would buy a decent customizable apartment somewhere in lonetrek for up to 4-5 billion.

But regardless, my point is - there are plenty of ways things could be implemented through iteration and adaptation. It just takes an investment CCP are unwilling on unable to make. Their limit is skinmaking and reusing old assets and scripts to the point when its easier to replace the whole system (POS) rather that refactor the existing code.
