Can you share some of these cases with us where pilots choose to pilot their ship into another to prevent warp instead of using a point or scram?

I don’t think this calls for a situation where developers should reasonably choose “bump-tackling” over modules that tackle. The reason is that there are cases in niche or emergent gameplay that benefit greatly from bumping where you couldn’t achieve the same outcome if you had to rely on activating a module to tackle.

I cant, except anecdotally, because “bump-tackling” does not show on killmails.

It happens throughout EVE though, when a ship is not fit with points/bubbles, or chooses not to use them, or doesnt have enough of them to overcome the targets warp stability, for purposes of preventing the target warping.

That’s not a strong argument. Let me pose this question then: Can you name a specific instance where you witnessed someone choosing to “bump-tackle” instead of activating a point or scram on them?

I can provide an example of you want: I’m in a Sacrilege and I’ve tackled (with a scram) an unlucky Orca in an asteroid belt. I’m happily chewing on his shields when I see he releases a flight of EC-600’s and gets a lucky jam on me. I lose my lock and so while he is aligning to his escape I bump him out of alignment.

With your proposal / logic I would just get jammed and he would escape. The alternative is that I find him and because points and scrams were removed from the game I instead have to continuously bump him out of alignment.

Its not an argument. Its a factual response to your question.
You cant provide that data either, for the same reason as I.

Your “example” is anecdotal at best, fictional at worst.

Thats what jammers are for.

Nobody is proposing points and scrams would be removed from the game.

Which would negate his jammers, as his fit choice, and not require you to fit point/scram/bubble in the first place, and just use your ship against his, for a tackle result.

The point is that in cases where you are able to use a point, people don’t decide to just bump it instead.

If you require data for this to make sense to you, then I’m sorry. So if you can’t give reliable data and I can’t give reliable data, then what do you possibly hope to achieve in this thread?

I can only give you practical and personal experience, which is more than what you’ve provided.

There is no situation where you cant use a point.
Nothing stops you, anywhere, from activating a point.
If you cant target the ship due to jams, too bad.

Inversely, people dont fit/use point, because they can “bump tackle” instead.

* * *

The primary function of a bump, is to displace the ship.
That is what a bump does.
That it also happens to disrupt their attempt to warp, is secondary, and superfluous.
Its not contingent.
Warp interruption modules/bubbles already exist for that specific purpose.

Do you have any example of this being used against subcaps?

While you are technically and mechanically correct. There are instances where using a point doesn’t have any meaningful impact or doesn’t actually achieve any sort of goal that is required for a niche activity or emergent gameplay experience.

I can give you some examples if you want, but I assume that you’ll dismiss them?

I’m not referring to jamming drones.

No they don’t. If they don’t fit or use a point it’s not because they can bump instead. I say this with certainty because it just doesn’t make sense. No one does this. Seems like the burden of proof is on you, and we’ll happily wait for that.

This doesn’t happen.

Well as someone who actually plays EVE, let me tell you that bump-tackle is only feasible against capitals (Which Freighters are) do to their inertia and is not used against subcaps.

Lets take HS as an example.

As you, seriously, claiming that ships are not bump-tackled to prevent their escape till a gank fleet can arrive?

It’s like 400 pages of this thread is about explaining to Salvos how basic game mechanics work while he thinks he can make suggestions how to change the very thing he does not understand

Yay, here we go. Ok are you seriously suggesting that someone have enough alts to cycle suicide points on the target? I understand that bumping isn’t necessary to ganking a freighter but there are other reasons for it other than, “wait here while I ping for my fleet to form lol”.

I actually play EVE, too.

Inertia doesnt mean what you think it means in this context.

Bump-tackle is frequently used against sub-caps, throughout EVE.

That has nothing to do with bump mechanics.
That using a point in HS causes a CONCORD reaction, is a factor of HS security.

Yeah it does mean something for bumping. What it means is that that solution to keeping a target “tackled” isn’t feasible due to crimewatch mechanics. You make a decision to bump it instead of repeatedly suicide ships into it just to keep it from warping.

You make this decision because eve is a dynamic game. I feel you’ve got blinders on.

You are making these assumptions, so it’s on you.
