The pipes and curly braces are used so you can do a run of 15 images and random elements are exchanged. So all your images are not identitcal garbage. The pipe mean “or” the words in braces a set of choices. I generated 5 images and that was the better in my opinion, but no raptor was rendered. Nothing is perfect.

**Example:**
the landscape is a {hellscape of burning villages **or** muddy, blood-soaked valley **or** shattered fortress} teeming with an {endless horde of snarling **or** organized phalanx of **or** chaotic swarm of} orcs, featuring {jagged iron weaponry **or** primitive bone armor **or** massive war-drums}

Another command is the negative prompt; looks like { --no hands, birds, moon } which tells the AI what not to show in the photo. This means no hands, birds, or moons will be generated.

Another example; a beautiful landscape(negativePrompt:::low quality, deformed)
Requests the best quality and no weird looking trees and such.

This is why some of the AI prompts, can start looking like you are low level programming.

> You don’t need to keep feeding in the character. You can create a ‘consistent character’ just once…and save it and use it thereafter.

This is why I said, they are probably using an onlinie service. If you are running your own personal AI – on your PC and not a data server – then it could get into a lot of time chewing on these type of prompts. I know mine would take days to generate several images, and yes some nerds have AI on their PC, doing this the slow method. I recall ages ago, I ran a program called Persistance of Vision: Ray Tracer. You literally programmed images with text only scripts, it took me a week or more to get quality images such as this;

 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/2/6/4/2642d89975a2065c02be19da587e737f7ef6323d.jpeg)

These images done back in the 90s, on very old 286 machines. So we would set the resolution super low at first; 160 x 120. But that is not using AI, it is all just a math script. That looks like this;

```auto
 #include "colors.inc"
  background{White}
  camera {
    angle 10
    location <1, 9, -50>
    look_at <0, 2, 0>
  }
  light_source {
    <20, 20, -20> color White
  }
  lathe {
    linear_spline
    6,
    <0,0>, <1,1>, <3,2>, <2,3>, <2,4>, <0,4>
    pigment { Blue }
    finish {
      ambient .3
      phong .75
    }
  }
```

But for an image above, would be several hundreds of lines. The raytracer fires a _fictional_ ray of light at the source target and tracks the color back to the camera. Where it places the proper pixel of light on your monitor. So 160x120 resolution means 19,200 rays to calculate.

We didn’t need to pick up a brush. We needed to do a lot of math, and hope this image would not look like garbage when it finished rendering. [POVray is still freeware opensource](https://www.povray.org) should anyone deep into math choose to look into it.

**Is it Art?**
Ray tracing is a tool, it gave us more realistic graphics in games, next rung up the ladder was the advanced imagine programs (GNU Image Manipulation Program) aka GIMP, the next rung up the tech ladder was algorythms ( falsely called AI ), the next rung up the ladder is just around the corner. I can’t wait to see it.

Historically music is developing in much the same way. Primatives beat on hollow logs, and before long they formed rock bands.

Then in the 50s they learned to dress better. By the 1960’s we had syths with built in rythm machines and one key press chords. I only wonder what Mozart would think of that invention? Playing electric guitars would send you straight to Hell. Then [MIDI](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI) came along and it was the downfall of the real musician, any person could stand on stage a be the whole band. Rock and Roll disco wars ravaged the land and it was the the day the music died. Oh? It didn’t happen that way? Why not?

Because they were just tools.

Have fun!

I used to use pipes, brackets, etc, but I scrapped all that ( which just uses up space anyway ) and just record all my prompts in a document under relevant headings that also correspond to the directory names of where the images go. So stuff is easy to find. They are usually of the format…

Style, Main Subject, location, other subjects, qualifiers.

For example…‘3D anime style. High angle view of an Elf, sitting on a log in a forest, surrounded by huge arachnids, dark and eerie lighting, realistic textures.’

Most are somewhat longer than that.

After a while you learn the commands for different angles, close ups, the large range of styles ( Oil painting, Anime. Gothic. Etc, etc ) . I often add ‘misty’ to my images for effect.

Writing it as I do I can readily change the style, the main character, the setting, etc. And one actually finds that one type of image evolves into another.

Like I explained to @Meridan_Night this is sort of a feature more commonly used by geeks who don’t use the internet for AI rendering. Services that do it “fast” are sending it to data centers. Some people believe data centers are a four letter word.

Using this prompt on a local AI

> Interior office, gray hair male, reclined at desk,
> wearing a { red | black | blue } business suit black shoes,
> (resolution:::256x256)

After I watch some shows, get a coffee, and something to eat, I get to seleect from this;

 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/4/6/2/4627f9cad27f9a2044bb66ed14e9f92c1a01aafd.jpeg)

**My AI Forecast Prediction**
Now for a few words about bankrupting AI data centers. The “free” AI services are making no money. Chat GPT is funded by mega corps throwing money at it. So how long before they realize there is zero return on their stacks of cash?

Data centers need funding from the services, once they defund services, like Chat GPT, the funding to the data servers stop. This balances the system. In the near future, we will be hearing all those corporations crying how they lost their shirts on bad AI investments.

Our imagination is fueled by hopes and dreams, AI data centers cost real money, freemium sites like Sora, will continue to pay as long as they have the paid subscribers. Sora ends up just like most online video games, it hinges on how much users are willing to pay for their service and how much Sora needs to pay those bills.

I am looking forward to all the tech this _AI Slop_ produces in the decades ahead. People who invest in AI web service are going to lose. We will need data centers for a better internet, unless they can lower the cost to [produce DNA servers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA_digital_data_storage). DNA processing, then you are playing with power!

For the present, the new AI chips will be a good investment for the future. I invested stock in AMD last April and shares were at 241. Today they took a small hit this week, but I am no day trader. Looks like they are at 608. That is up +40% in six months. I think by next year, I will buy myself something real nice. It won’t be a new AI Windows PC, that is for damn sure.

Fly safe o7

Surely ‘local’ AI doesn’t have the billions of sample images at its disposal that one of the data centre companies like Openart use. A home PC simply doesn’t have the storage capacity for all those billions of images.

Mind you…Openart can produce complex images within 10-15 seconds, and I very much doubt whether it _is_ looking through billions of images in that time.

If a home PC with RTX 5090 or a specific AI graphics card can ever challenge all the big data centres, then two things happen. Firstly, complete control will be lost of _what_ people can produce…as most subscribed packages do restrict what you can create…for legal reasons. But also, all those massive data centers would become redundant.

But I doubt we are anywhere near that yet. Perhaps with individual images…but for a 15 minute video you can conjure something up in Seedance via a data center that would take the average PC a hundred years to create.

Most AI programs search the internet for source materials, to queries and image requests, unless you restrict them to only models found on your PC, and that would cripple the program greatly. The computations and rendering is all done by your CPU/GPU on a Local AI. The search and temporary storage of source material is relativly fast.

I assume you read my prior post about ( algorthm = recipe ) the idea that what they are calling AI is technically just algorythms to create what you desire. The AI program itself is nothing more than a text parser attached to a search engine, then filters back through editing software ( depending on the type of AI engine ) it spits out data found over several quick searches. Then it organizes that data ( text, music, images ) accordingly to parameters. These video explain how to set up your local AI, but they have sponsor ads, at least you can skip those.

Around the 18 minute mark, this one makes an image locally. This means it searched the internet for Adam Sandler and a llama to make the picture he requested.

Moral of the story is, how do the paid services manage to charge people when they upgrade the PC hardware in the future? My advice is to invest in the hardware not the software the nerds download and operate for free.

This is my only concern about AI artwork, all the hoaxes we get online. Naive people see this stuff and swallow it, hook, line and sinker. Next we get all types of conspiracies popping up. This has happened in the past with photoshopping as @Malcoy_Tweedhouse shown above. AI speeds up the process making false images far too real. This will not only convince people of falsehoods, but also obscure the truth about real images. For example; a sci-fi movie I was watching, people were watching a video on their phones, “This video is so fake.” was commented. But then it started happening outside the diner they were inside. I am afraid AI will end up making us all far too critical, we will deny reality until it slaps us in the face.

I got into the GIMP because of this image showing up on the internet in 2001. The photo actually outdates me.

 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/c/6/5/c652d15ed12e25fe91eca08eefe98a2df4ec2e31.jpeg)

“[Helicopter Shark](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter_Shark)” was not done by using language models, it was s a composition of two photographs. One was a shark leaping out of the water, the other was a Black Hawk on a military exercise. Photoshopping was the way to make a fake photo and many did it to hoax and convince others this was real.

I found it more fun to make images from scratch with little or no talent. My friends have said, but the image came from your imagination. I don’t believe thinking is a talent, or should not be considered a talent, unless you are mentally impaired.
