While having ISK set aside is nice, it feels pointless to me to play to ‘have ISK’ if I don’t plan to use it. Instead of playing an economic game I would be playing to ‘see a number go up’, which if that number isn’t used somehow is pointless to me. At the same time having liquid ISK is nice. It means I can make some impulse buys, get nice toys or replace ships if I lose them. This means the ships I can fly and can afford to replace are related to how much spare ISK I have, and the other way around: how much spare ISK I want to have to comfortably fly some of my ships. Another aspect to ISK is that having more ISK makes it faster to gain more ISK. Not just in the trading partof the game, which I did in other games and have no interest yet in doing in EVE, but also for regular gameplay: I earn a lot more flying a 80 million ISK explorer than I do flying a 5 million ISK exploration frigate. And I earn significantly more flying a 2.5 billion ratting battleship than I earn flying a 250 million ratting cruiser. So then is the question: Why, if I have plenty of ISK and can easily afford to lose many 80 million exploration frigates would I waste my time earning less flying a 5 million frigate? If it’s a matter ISK optimization, as long as I don’t die too often the faster and more expensive ship will be far better for my wallet and the T1 frigate would only be financially the better choice if I die multiple times each session. If it’s a matter of risk avoidance and avoiding the red on my zkillboard I have yet another reason to fly the expensive safer ship! Flying T1 frigates for ISK only really makes sense if you cannot afford or cannot use better yet, as a starting point, but for multiple reasons it’s better to upgrade once you can. Scale your idea of what is ‘cheap’, of what is a reasonable income to what you have and wish to spend. I don’t chase ISK nearly as much as some people seem to do and play little, and if I play I play mainly for the fun of it before playing to earn a lot. Still I don’t mind buying or flying ships over a billion ISK. I like blops, got multiple of them, some double, and recently got a nice Odysseus. Got a few caps, don’t use them much though, and I try to have about 10b liquid ISK in my wallet. Recently I did a bunch of ratting and it was approaching 20b, almost double of the previous most I ever had! But I just had to get that Odysseus and a new command carrier, and suddenly had to replace a Thunderchild that got caught by blops while ratting so I’m back at 10. ISK in EVE is something to spend. To spend time earning ISK without the intention of using this ISK sounds completely pointless to me. ---

It’s a feature not a bug. How do you think you got that bil in the first place? It wasn’t by welping ships, that’s for dang sure. Keep you isk safe and keep piling it up. On a less serious note you can ease some of the sting of losing ships by building them yourself. Note that losing a ship is the only time you are able to fully discount mineral costs by saying that “you mined them yourself so it’s free”. ---

I also had fun trading in another game with similar economy, and I won’t say I won’t ever start trading in EVE, but right now the competitive gameplay of setting up sell and buy orders when I could spend that time flying spaceships instead just isn’t attractive to me. ---

I do have a little over 500M and could buy and fit a couple of nice ships but I have all the ships I need right now and I feel it would be a waste to buy another ship until I lose one. ---

For me it really depends on the group and what they need, I tend to enjoy weaponizing poverty. T1 cruisers are usually my go to choice, I also like the stealth bombers and destroyers I do have a thing for condor frigates. My play style usually involves bombardment from range and I tend to never fly alone. In the gate camps I’ve never had anyone complain about me fielding torpedos, medium artillery or lasers so usually cheap ships that punch up from afar. The price tags for my most expensive ships fully fitted sits at around 100 mill What gets my wallet then? paint and ship skins 😢 ---

i am crafting very basic things in a trade hub and listing them up on market as sell orders, but i keep getting undercut, and then theres that guy who makes 1000 of the same thing and undercuts both of us. trading seems like a slow gameplay. ---

Don’t mistake industry for trading. Sure, industry will have a trading aspect, but trading is broader than just building things and putting them immediately up (and getting undercut). ---
