This is quite interesting, for two reasons.

1. There are plenty of amusing and annoying threads and posts about banning pvp in certain areas. This is the first one I’ve seen that actually **advocates to ban market pvp**. Eve life is full of surprises.
2. Apparently you feel you profiteered. You knew that could happen when you set up your order at higher than “usual” price, but you did it anyway. You know the reason why you went ahead. I totally agree with that reason, but not with the change of heart you experience now. Moreover, the buyer did get a popup asking for confirmation, detailing the transaction exactly.

Then why are you doing it? You want the game client to automatically correct for a mistake you make. I’m against that. It should be possible to make that mistake.

And if you put a sell order in 100 units for 1 thousand/unit and each unit is 1 million for buy orders, it makes more sense to not use sell order price for that.

The usual crowd chimes in with “OMG you’re asking EVE devs to code things reasonably instead of just punishing players with a bad and stupid interface!”.

Any rational market anywhere would treat “Buy me 100 items, I am offering 10 million each” as “purchase the 100 items from the market at whatever price they’re offered so long as it is less than 10 million, starting with the cheapest”.

As said by others here, doing it the way EVE does it is simply cheap and poor coding. EVE has a **lot** of cheap and poor coding. EVE also has a lot of trolls who’ll jump up at every opportunity and say “EVE’s cheap and bad coding is wonderful and unique, and if you can’t adapt to it you’re a lame loser carebear who needs to go back to playing Hello Kitty Online!”.

At least one of the points made is semi-valid: Doing it the correct way would likely cause a tiny fraction more server load. Compared to the math involved in the hundreds of thousands of weapons being fired at targets at any given moment, I can pretty much guarantee this would add less than 1% to server load.

Another valid point: Doing it the current way allows someone to ‘overpay’ the lowest cost sellers of an item. It’s possible to imagine a situation where a player would want to reward someone for placing the lowest priced items on the market, by paying more than their listed price. If this happens even a couple times a year (excluding RMT), I’d be very surprised.

Being fair, CCP already made a gesture in this direction by placing the comma and period delimiters for amounts in the offer box, to make it more visually distinct if you put in too many zeroes.

I suspect if you asked CCP “why did you address the issue by altering the offer display, but didn’t go the rest of the way and alter the actual purchasing code”, somebody at CCP will immediately trot out the “legacy code, we can’t touch it” excuse.

Seems odd the programmers of 15 years ago were so much more competent than the current batch that they could program the whole game, whereas the current ones are limited to making tweaks and balance passes.

Ah well, another sad indictment of the younger generation, I guess. Or perhaps of CCP’s firing/hiring practices.

ok again,

if i put 1b buy for 1m sell items its player mistake and is legit.
And if i put 1b buy for 1m sell items because RMT its legit too?

Another example with free Sp points to apply to skills. I can shoose 99999999 to apply to Level 5, but only max Skill points for given Skill will be removed. Why not entire 99999999? its player mistake too? 😛

It’s not PVP, it’s PVE : Player Versus Eve. Actually versus Eve’s stupid mechanism.

BS
Sometimes I sell lots of items with the popup. Selling for +100% over usual price is totally fine.

It’s not “stupid”. It’s “mistakes”. And every body makes them, only arrogant person believe they won’t ever, and will consider their mistake as “bug”.

When your gameplay relies solely on people making mistakes because the interface is badly designed, that’s not PVP : that’s bug exploiting. Design bug, in that case.

Then if everybody is likely to make a mistake at some point, that means that everybody is stupid. So that statement of yours make no sense at all, since it says “people are to be prayed on”, without any relevance to the topic.

Actually, no, it’s clearly pvp, you compete with other players to sell high and buy low, or sell/buy anyway.

Sure, that’s fine as long as you press the OK button after reading. Personally I find that popup slightly OP because I tend to read very carefully. It’s BS if you press the button without reading and then complain that you had to read but didn’t because of … ?

This is not the way discussion forums work. Feel free to state your case, but don’t get upset, if others have different views on the subject. However stupid these may seem to you personally.

One could also argue, that there’s a dedicated subforum for this kind of posts.

Not the part that we are talking about.
When people are hit because mehanism are bad, it’s literally Player versus Mechanisms. Other players interaction is not mandatory.

> [@Wadiest\_Yong](#):
>
> It’s BS if you press the button without reading and then complain that you had to read but didn’t because of … ?

No, it’s BS to claim that because you clicked on it you actually read it. You are actually claiming that people can’t get used to an invasive interaction and so totally ignore it if it’s too much present, which is actually proven false.

What’s more, your answer is completely off-topic again. You are claiming it’s fine as “it is how it is”, but this just complete BS. If this was the case there would never be ANY change in the game.

AFAIK the OP actually understand how it is. He just claims that “the system is dumb”, NOT that it is not how it is.

If i put a buy order for 100 times the price in a large enough quantity i can artificially make said item look more expensive which is a way to mess with the market which can mess with other things in the game.

I consider it the ganking equivalent in market pvp. And the mistakes mentioned are even easier to avoid than in combat pvp. Read before you sign. Or even better, let someone else, who understands the rules, do your market transactions for you.

Also, fat fingers are not part of Eve mechanics, so stop calling it a bad mechanic, it’s bad motor skills.

Oh, my reply is very much on topic, which originally started with a mistake that was made. Mistakes offer opportunities for learning (and obviously also for profit 😝). Furthermore OP asked openly to not post if not agreeing with his opinion, and I couldn’t resist the temptation. Just follow the 🔴s and you will see it all fits nicely into the topic. IF you read, of course. I’ll resist further temptations.

That’s literally the proof that the design is bad.

Nobody cares. The issue is NOT fatfingers, so you are completely off topic.
