One of the core facets around EVE, one of the things that gives EVE it’s very identity, that EVE wouldn’t be EVE without, is that PVP is global: always has been, always will be. A new character can undock and within 5 seconds be blown up (although technically this is against the rules, it can still happen in principle). Same thing with EVE’s Darwinian death-has-severe-consequences model. (Not referring specifically to you, but) the collective attitude is: if you don’t like it, find a different game.

Why they made that choice isn’t for the reasons you a cheering about…

…and no you can’t have a toggle.

It already exists, it’s written ‘uninstall’ on it.

(Desmios Sanguis) #8

Why did they change the war dec system if not to discourage high-sec pvp engagements?

(Runa Yamaguchi) #9

How about you go read all their press releases, blogs and dev notes to learn why…it’s only been going on for close to a year and a half now…

if not to discourage high-sec pvp engagements

So then If you know/see this then WTF are you also asking for toggle?

(Black Pedro) #10

They did it to encourage more PvP by giving players an objective to go after and provide some meaning and agency to participating in wars.

There is already plenty of agency in avoiding the last remaining form of non-consensual PvP in highsec, the suicide gank. Just set your safety to green, pay attention and not put too much ISK into your ship and PvP, at least of the shooty-shooty variety won’t find you.

Das Global in what way, comrade

Only two useful responses so far, but the general rejection is reasonable.

To the extent EVE is designed at all, “free-fire” PvP is one of its core features. It wouldn’t be practical to add a “PvP off” button now.

On the other hand, there’s definitely a case to be made for “tuning” some aspects of PvP combat.

For example CONCORD in its present form is useless, as are the different security levels (there’s room for either 2 or 3 depending on whether CONCORD is kept of not).

But what are the odds if changes in the older parts of the game? Not high enough to make it work discussing IMO.

Here’s the PVP toggle:

(Runa Yamaguchi) #17

No, you just don’t understand the role of CONCORD.

(Elena Laskova) #18

I’d be interested to hear what it’s supposed to achieve, and whether you believe it’s successful in meeting those objectives.

(Scipio Artelius) #19

It’s purely a retribution mechanic against criminals. It’s not a protective mechanism for capsuleers.

It achieves it’s purpose 100%.

From the support article:

(Runa Yamaguchi) #20

CONCORD is there to:

  • act as a deterrent for criminal acts in HS
  • blow your ship up if you perform a criminal act

Works pretty well as they never fail.

If you think that’s false, please go fly around in LS for a while and let us know how that goes…

(Solstice Projekt) #21

Is this actual reality, though?
Are their words really going together with their actions?

When people can put their structures into holding corps,
then there is no PvP. Just structure bashing.

When WarDeccers combine into an even bigger entity,
then there also is no PvP,
because the bears will not fight back due to the might of the attacker.
Still just structure bashing.

Don’t believe the reasons CCP gives for a feature.
In most cases it’s just ■■■■■■■■ they throw at us so we shut the ■■■■ up.

(Elena Laskova) #22

They seems to be effective in applying the intended penalty, but:

  • They are not effective as a deterrent
  • The penalty is “gamed” to the point where it’s insignificant

If there were only three security levels, CONCORD could be made into something useful and interesting.

If EVE was a real PvP game, rather than a competitive PvE game, there would be no place for a compromise solution like CONCORD.
