The announced carrier buff (previously nerfed in 2019) is a step in the right direction but it isn’t enough. To make these ships at least viable again for ratting they need to be able to use a cyno.

Marauder cost like 1.2 billion isk and does a haven in about 8 minutes and is locked on grid for 1 minute.

A carrier cost about 4 bill and does a haven also in about 8 minutes but is locked to grid 2 minutes, if your unlucky and loose a fighter the value if the site is negated. And you need a mandatory alt on grid cloaked up with a cyno.

The math just doesn’t add up.

If you want to go back to peak Eve (2018) most of the changes need to be reverted (Cyno, Cost of Capitals, Rorqual as Miner).

The math is very simple – don’t run Havens in a carrier.

let me correct you on a few points:

- Peak EVE was around 2010.
- Carriers don’t need to be able to light a cyno. Instead cynos should be nerfed into oblivion to cut down insta-travel mechanics that have ruined the gameplay for years by making everyone who can’t escalate just prey for the next bigger group to be remote-curbstomped. It took away any skill in good scouting, baiting, fleet positioning and delaying tactics.
- Carriers are capital ships that should not perform extraordinary well without a subcapital support group. EVE needs more real group play and less altchar-multiboxing. And less solopwnmobiles. No capital ship should perform well when used solo under any circumstance. They are fleet ships and they should shine when supported.

The great value of carriers is their incredible range, their ability to send support fighters for tackle or EWAR with their damage over incredible range, the ability to jump ships and themselves around on grid, including immobilized capital ships. And, even as strategical deployment, over multiple solar systems. They are _not_ meant for ratting. In fact no Capital or Supercapital should be able to grind ISK on it’s own.

Capitals just aren’t worth it in this game. A dreadnought is so damn huge that it can only carry 3 XL guns and that’s it? No small guns? No way to instantly vaporize small or medium ships? It’s basically a wrecking ball. That’s it.

A Rorquall is so huge that it can launch a whole 5 drones while not exceeding 125mb bandwidth.

I haven’t played with carrier skills and know nothing of fighters so I won’t comment on those, but Rorqualls and Dreads leave much to be desired.

Then what’s the point of owning a capital ship? If they need to have a fleet in order to function, then why does a fleet need one? Just use the subcap fleet.
