So your argument is, Eve is dying, why care. Linux is growing, Eve is dying, ok. Linux user (gamer) base going up, Eve gamer base going down. Looks to me Linux is winning. Linux gaming will be around a lot longer than Eve and getting bigger. ---

Again, big gaming companies are putting effort into Linux, that’s not because it’s terrible or small or going down or short lived. Numbers themselves, peak Eve users is 25k? down from 2010 numbers. Linux users 250,000 on Steam alone. ---

Okay, fair enough. Or they can not put effort on Linux at all and instead put that effort in retaining new players. I’m sure that if they can increase player retention for all windows and mac players by 10%, it will beat putting a lot of effort into linux. ---

Because it’s something “different”. They don’t like that. They’re “no change” and Windows maximilists. That’s possibly a symptom of having old men play a game and don’t want change. ---

I’m not against Linux support, if it was a sensible choice. It’s just not a sensible choice, given the amount of players who use Linux and not just one version of it but many different ones. ---

Distributing games is a different market than distributing your own game. Yes, Valve makes their own games as well, but unless I’m wrong, they earn a lot of money by providing a game distribution platform. It makes sense to open shop at as many locations as you want if you want a good market share. This is different from producing your own game and getting enough players to play that one game to afford continued development of that game. Valve isn’t necessarily making a non-sensible choice, but they’re in a different position than CCP. ---

Eve is on Steam. Windows, Mac and Linux share technologies used in Eve. QT, Python, OpenGL, Vulkan. ---
