What technologies does the Mac use for Eve? QT? Python? OpenGL? Vulkan? What technologies does the Windows use for Eve? QT? Python? Vulkan? DirectX? What technologies does Linux have? QT? Python? OpenGL? Vulkan? What is the player base of Eve? how many? What is the player base of Mac on Eve? ---

What’s the point you’re trying to make? How many similar technologies the OS use? How EVE can _almost_ run on your different OS? It’s not about the similarities, the difficulty lies in where the OS are different enough that it breaks your EVE without extra effort. And whether that extra effort to get the game running is worth it for such a small market share of players that play on all those different versions of Linux. ---

It already breaks on older Mac versions, and (end of life) Windows versons. ---

Yes, and? Are you saying CCP should fix EVE on older windows versions? Because I think they should, as the market share of EVE players on older windows versions is probably bigger than the amount of Linux players. ---

Ahh but there goes the centralised support argument out the window as Microsoft no longer “supports” those platforms that it’s breaking on. They’re end of life. That was an argument earlier in this thread. ---

No, that’s a good argument. And probably a good reason why CCP shouldn’t support older windows versions even though there is still a part of the EVE playerbase using such platforms. ---

The support was “unofficial” but it was there. Possibly because, Wine on the Mac, now that’s gone, the other option is port Mac to Linux now, should be easier if they stuck to cross platform tooling. ---

Yes, and the big question is: **is the linux playerbase big enough to afford officially supporting them?** I don’t have the answer to that, as I don’t know the cost and don’t know how many linux players there are. But it might not be worth the effort beyond what a Linux dev can do in his spare time. ---

If done right, Mac and Linux share the same cross platform tooling, Windows is the odd one using DirectX isn’t it? They could all use Vulkan or OpenGL. Vulkan is the way forward. Pretty sure Mac doesn’t use DirectX. ---

Linux is so terrible they now have Ubuntu for Windows Linux subsystems and Android subsystems with W10 and W11 (even POSIX and unix subsystems, even mac is Unix certified and POSIX). It shouldn’t be a major stretch to do a Linux native client after the Mac native port. ---

Support was “unofficial”, it was done in spare effort time, but it was there. I had a thread with it in the Linux sub-forum discussing this very thing. The Mac native port, changes things, potentially opening the door for a Linux native port. Before it was Wine. ---

I think it’s a great idea to complain and shout loudly as a paying customer, I still am and still use Linux, they still get Omega gamers don’t they. I still spend in their store. ---
