What loss, you lose it docking up as well, so it’s a zero opportunity cost action that can save you man hours in the future. It’s an investment.

No.

1. You lose much less by docking up.
2. This may lead to killmails at home, which is the worst case scenario.

The point of home defense is to ensure they run, not to kill, killing leaves a tremendous amounts of free intel and invites way too much trouble to deal with. It’s not an investment, it’s like turning a temporary loss into permanent defeat.

Why are you losing hundreds of man-hours? An AFK cyno pilot is enough to send them running if they’re as risk-averse as you claim.

> Even if they engage, you lose, because you leave killmails where you live, which is a #1 no-no to do if you want your space to be clear of hotdropping campers.

So let me get this straight: it’s bad to kill people that try to attack you because if you kill them they will know that this is a place they can go to lose ships, but they’re also so risk-averse that they’ll panic and jump out at the first sign of a PvP threat.

That’s so straight the Mobius strip is envious of it’s twists.

Which, you know, is a _massive_ difference. It’s the difference between ‘Birds cannot fly’ and ‘Certain types of birds cannot fly, unless you load them onto aircraft’.

You missed my point. I’m not suggesting alliances currently restrict newer players from ratting (besides Horde), it’s that in a world where ratting is going to be less valuable the more an alliance does it, the alliances are likely to copy Horde’s model and restrict ratting to their more loyal members.

> [@Arrendis](#):
>
> B) If you don’t like how they do things, _leave_. That goes for anyone in GSF who doesn’t like how we do things. Go where you’ll be happy. JFC, life’s too short to sit someplace being miserable when you don’t have to.

Yes I agree. Not sure what relevance this has to my arguments, but nevertheless this is sound advice for any player, new or old.

> [@Arrendis](#):
>
> C) No, we won’t. We will not tell people ‘you must be X high to rat in the good space’. Not gonna happen. Leadership in Goonswarm is not going to say ‘oh, well, those guys lost titans…’. Leadership in Goonswarm is gonna say ‘shut the ■■■■ up, we replaced your titan, quit bitching about the cute newbies, and no, you cannot claim ownership of a rock in a mining anom, you stupid ass, and if you keep bitching, we’ll throw you _and_ your titan out a goddamned airlock for bluefucking’.

And yet Goons already frown upon Ishtars/Myrms taking Rock Havens or Ring Sanctums from their carrier/super ratters.

Neither of us can be sure, this is pure speculation. My prediction is that the Horde model will spread to other alliances as ratting income declines.

> [@Arrendis](#):

> That’s what leadership in Goonswarm will do. I know this because guess what! I _am_ leadership in Goonswarm.

From the nature of your posts, your emotional intelligence seems to be well below the threshold needed for any leadership position!

Not for me and not for others. I think the game needs a more diverse set of activities, ratting, mining and supercap battles all being valid.

You can fly a subcap in weeks, you cannot fly a titan in weeks.

Side point; it’s really not worth you getting worked up about. Clearly we have a difference of opinion and I’ll happily debate this with you further, but not if you’re going to go full child mode on me.

Nobody is running from a cyno nowadays. Because if you light it, this in 99% of cases leads to losing it, and cyno ships are EXPENSIVE AF nowadays. With a loss that expensive, your trap will never pay off even theoretically (not like it can possibly pay off in practice).
It needs a response that has actual chance to kill one of their ships. Then they run.

> [@Merin\_Ryskin](#):

Exactly. The best case scenario: “nobody’s home” killboard to which they won’t come in the first place. Everything else is from bad (having to lose in pvp ships to chase off) from worst (having killmails with exact size and type of your response, inviting bloc roamers to come by, as if dealing with filament chickens all day was not enough trouble).
Blocs will just bait your response, then light a cyno on top of it, and drop a super on you. The only way to avoid it is zero intel on your response. Like killing people on the other side of the gate, then it won’t record what damaged them on the other side, limiting free intel. But if you set a trap, that’s obviously out of the window, and to the worst case scenario we go.

Except, no. If your Myrm can survive it, run it. Just because some prissy asshole in a supercarrier is a dick, that doesn’t mean the alliance endorses that position. If he keeps giving you ■■■■, flip him the bird and tell nomnom or your corp directors.

Which is _not going to change_. And yes, I _can_ be sure. Holy carp, that would be turning around and dicking over every last member. Hell, we don’t even restrict which _alliances_ can rat in what parts of Imperium space. Everyone has equal access to all of it. Period. You start screwing people like that, you’re just taking a giant steaming crap all over the _esprit de corps_ that binds groups together in EVE.

So no, we’re not likely to copy Horde’s busted-ass model that screws over the people who need the opportunities the most. ‘More loyal members’ is not determined by time in the group or how big a ship you fly. And anyone who tells you otherwise is just trying to make you his ■■■■■.

Kiddo, if you think this is me ‘worked up’… lol. This is me killing time while my swtor crew do gathering missions. I am just _that_ spammy and verbose. Ask @Nevyn_Auscent, he’ll tell you. This whole thread doesn’t come _close_ to the levels of sheer arrogant condescension I can offer up without so much as a scowl.

It doesn’t, the goons just whine less about how it’s terrible and brag more about how they will adapt.
Then they also actually get on with the adapting when the update happens rather than rage and spread salt tears everywhere.
As a result they do better because they bother to.

Because large groups have more physical brains that can attempt to figure out how to adapt to changes, and organized groups have better capabilities for evaluating those potential solutions and figuring out which ones to adopt and which ones to hold in reserve.

Adaptation’s kind of our _schtick_.

I’m mean, this is a great chest-beating, war-drumming response, but it fails to answer the actual question. The changes I’ve seen indeed are things that Goons have actively complained about very openly and then the change comes in.

Yeah I’m accusing CCP of overt favoritism.

So it’s your position that we _wanted_ all our mining anoms devastated? That we _wanted_ all the trit taken out of _our_ space? That now we’re totally in favor of our ratting getting turbofucked?

If goons rent out space to (in part) fund their wars, you would be correct.

But it is my understanding that is not the case. These series of nerfs have been specifically targeted at renters which is very much the meta for goon’s opponents.

Are we just calling this a giant coincidence that’s historically occurred over and over again when the pressure is on for goons?
