I figured if I’m playing an MMORPG, I might as well get some of that feeling of being surrounded by other players and where best to have that feeling than LowSec where you have to constantly be alert?

Concord gets paid to eliminate pirates.

If all the pirates are dead, then who is going to pay Concord to eliminate pirates?

If the bounty were set really high, then two things would happen:

1- Concord would be paying more than they want to for bounties.
2- The players would collect more bounties, because it becomes more profitable.

Soon all the pirates would be dead, and Concord would be out of work.

I agree with the second point: low-sec is fun. And not as deadly as null-sec. Just yesterday i found it myself that not every gate camp if for you personally 🤣

You just realize that you limit your activities. Nothing impossible but i definitely can see people hating it and choosing high-sec.

That’s like saying if all the gangsters are dead who is going to pay the police.
If all the baddies are dead Concord is out of business.

Nothing wrong with that. Capsuleers spend time and isk to eliminate pirates, they should be well compensated. Unless pirates aren’t that much of a nuisance to justify high bounties then they should be left alone.

A lot of gate camps is just fishing, catch what you can and tally later. I’m just glad that there aren’t so many players in EVE or most gates would be camped and the game would be unplayable.

I don’t mind. I am not a hard-core player. I’m just a lowly capsuleer lost in a big universe. I do what I can and leave the rest.

It all depends what they want out of their play time. I want a little excitement and a surprise or two. LowSec gives me that.

Well… Let’s talk again when you older and, for example, decide to run lvl4s in a pirate battleship with deadspace modules (just for funsies, mind you). 😉
You will see huge difference between high-sec and low-sec.

Until then, have fun!

(Not saying you’re wrong or anything. It’s just a bit more complex than you are perceiving now)

That is unlikely. I don’t see myself doing so many missions as to get up to LvL4 and I seriously doubt I will ever fly a battleship.

I am aware that there are stark differences between the two. I have tried both and like LowSec better. I’m not saying that HiSec is bad, I’m just saying that LowSec suits me.

I understand and if I’m wrong it’s no big deal, not much hangs in the balance besides a bit of play time and a few million isk. My real life is more important to me.

You ever wonder they seem to never quite manage to wipe out all the gangs?

Just catch a supposedly important “big fish” now and again?

You mean just like on planet Earth? I think that CONCORD is in league with the pirates. As I said, if all the pirates are destroyed, CONCORD is out of a job.

Yes. Sometimes a change in lower management is needed. Just like on Earth, sometimes a crime boss is eliminated and another takes his place.

No I don’t think. I never saw CONCORD post 6.5 Billion PLEX scam contract, or attempt to rip me off selling me a ship on Hyper net Relay. You will never make a liver killing NPC belt rats for their bounties. In the real world, bounties are normally based on how much damage they did to become wanted. I can’t imagine those lame belt rats kill anything other than the naive miner with way too much of the wrong stuff on his ship. This is why I make my ISK mining gases and ores, hauling freight, and collecting on debts.

Liver? Really, I am just too damn lazy to fix the spell checker.

Have fun!

Low-sec is a mixed bag of snakes, the proverbial red-headed stepchild, etc. It’s not really sure what it is, what it wants to be or where it’s headed…

About a third of the residents absolutely love it with at least the same hating it abhorrently; the rest are the ones mainly contributing to the love/hate relationship with low-sec.

You guys are really thinking too much into lol it’s a game. The number of npc are limitless. They spawn in naturally everywhere. Pirates won’t “run out” concord will never be “out of a job” they are static and permanent.

Based on the economy and the rampant inflation I could see I small increase to payout being realistic but nothing drastic. Call it a “cost of living pay increase” or whatever nonsense HR uses these days.

> Or are we all working for peanuts now?

Yes. Players are working for peanuts, and always have been. (Those who work in-game, at least)

Players talk about Plexing their account in 10 or 15 or 20 or 30 hours of play time per month, but a 3-month sub (without sale or discount) costs $16 per month. So basically any time you spend ‘working’ for ISK in game per month is equivalent to an hour at a lower end job.

If you’re not playing for the entertainment value, then you’re underpaying yourself. Some people have pointed out that “game rewards per hour” does indeed factor into their entertainment value, which is true enough. But in that case, you should note that CCP has for years been trying to adjust systems in EVE so you have to play longer in order to obtain the same results as before. ‘Boiling the frog’, as it were.

They only change this pattern when so many people vote with their feet and quit playing, they need to institute a crash program of “getting boots back in the game”. So they introduce Rorquals or some other ‘play bait’, get people playing again, and then spend a decade building up an economic hangover that requires them to smash the economy so they can then ‘fix’ it.

While the point of “inflation affects the market so it should affect rewards also” has some validity, it’s just not really in-line with CCP’s intentions. Until and unless it results in lots of lapsed accounts.

So suck it up, buttercup. Or vote with your feet.

</div>

There is also the issue that blowing up rats can get boring after a while. (I’m sure CCP has detailed metrics, telling them exactly how much this is true or not true, on a broad statistical level)

They wouldn’t want you to become too focused on a means of making ISK that won’t keep you engaged long term. The AI that guides NPC rat behavior is going to become predictable after a while.

I think the intended use of ratting is as a “drugery” type task. Hi Sec gankers have to rat to get back their security status. Mission running to get standings with various factions is basically ratting toward some specific goal. It pays low just so you don’t have to do it for free.
