Yeah it really is. Ships out in dangerous space where before no ships were required is a PvP driver.

Ah, but you see, you misunderstand the motivation. They want to be able to get moongoo, from infrastructure that somebody else invested all the time and resources to set up, without exposing themselves to risk in the process, because … uh, “yarrrrr, we be pirates” or whatever.

Pretty much. Yet another post from folks who are unwilling to play in the k-space pond, but feel entitled to keep others from doing the same.

I’m happy in WH space thanks, and probably will moon mine as and when it becomes and option for us. We’ll need refineries before that anyway, what with needing to build our own infrastructure to do anything useful out there 🙂

Then why the heck do you care about what happens in k-space?

I thought structures were intended to be defensive multipliers, otherwise what’s the point waiting to create the belt inside defence range?

It’s not the defense range, it’s the timing. Making the timing more predictable allows for any defensive multipliers (be it from the structure or escalation forces) to be available. 23/7 vigilance means that defensive multipliers are not in play.

By that argument we should also have a means in WH’s to generate a source of gas clouds at timed intervals that guarantee we have our best defences available, rather than all sites being available to anyone 23/7. Except it doesn’t work that way for anything else in EvE, so why should it be the same for this?

Moongoo today works this way. POS have a reinforcement timer, which allows defense to occur at the defender’s choosing. Refinery mechanics retain this feature.

You don’t have to build, maintain, and defend structures to generate gas clouds. The gas cloud just happens, just like, e.g., an exploration site might spawn in sov null, which you can also ninja-explore or whatever.

I mean, I get it, I’m a solo player who creeps around in dangerous places too, and every time I’ve come back to Eve I’ve found it’s the play style I gravitate towards. But you have to accept that it’s a smaller game, a more marginal existence, and that you’ll always have to find clever ways to exist in the cracks. It’s not CCP’s duty or interest to save a place for you at the big table. Personally, that’s part of what makes it more fun for me.

I’m not a solo player, very much the opposite. I’m interested in giving more people more opportunities to put themselves in danger for a reward. I’ve yet to see a good reason against this other than ‘We paid ISK so should have near perfect safety whilst gathering resources’

My way of thinking is that the little guy needs as many opportunities to nibble as possible as everyone starts out this way. More possibilities means more interest. It also means more people seeing what you can have with the bigger groups.

You two tugging “owner counterplay” back and forth: remember that owner controls the time of fragmentation of the chunk?

Ah, yes, yet another person rounding up a value of “safety” to 100% after it passes their personal threshold.

1. I said ‘near perfect’
2. How many people believe that living out in WH’s is safer than living in a large null alliance?

You will be choosing when the fragmentation occurs so can have a defensive and mining fleet on standby
You will have the perfect intel of local available
You will have a potentially heavily armed refinery in range of the rocks
You will be able to bubble gates to death prior to the fragmentation minimizing risk of disturbance.

I think someone being able to chew a bit off the crust before you get it into the safety zone is perfectly reasonable.

“Near perfect” is limp-wristed hedging. You mean “perfect.” Don’t try that one on me.

Interdiction nullification exists. Logging off cynos in system before the timer is a tactic that exists.

Sorry, dude, but you’re not getting a free lunch. You’re not going to needle this feature into a position that requires eternal vigilance by the structure haver. If you want to steal a piece of the pie, you need to endure some risk. You know, “risk?” That thing you keep telling us that we need to endure? Turns out, you need to endure it, too.

</div>

I find this amusing. Firstly by near-perfect I actually mean not quite perfect. Telling my I mean something else doesn’t make it true.

Secondly I propose a mechanism whereby others would be able to steal a small portion of resources and you seem to fall into a hissy fit. It would not require eternal vigilance any more than WH’s require eternal vigilance to guard any anomolies right now. That just doesn’t wash as an argument.

I’m also pretty sure that entering into space where local announces your arrival, pootling on over to a crusticle in a known area, blasting a chunk off it and then sitting there mining away will carry some element of risk.

The current proposal minimizes the risk to the owning alliance or corp, it stacks everything in their favour. As mentioned previously the owning corp would be perfectly able to utilize this mechanism themselves if they are worried about theft, they’d just have to be out in space to do it.

You are arguing against my suggestion because it would put some of your resources at risk of being stolen, but that is exactly what the siphons were originally meant to do. My proposal would replace siphons with active players in space risking actual ships. You are simply arguing that this would allow someone to steal from you, and that’s bad.
