Weird debate. If a group feels this level of scrutiny is required thats up to them. If you don’t like that join a different group.

This is so astoundingly simple, I guess some of you just like the sound of your own keyboards.

How long does CCP keep the mails? I assume everything forever, so you could have mailed a IRL friend something private and 20 years later some nerds use it to dox you? Seems fishy to me.

How about we just remove the mail access completely, so the choice doesn’t even exist to begin with? That would be even simpler!

How about _not_ joining a corporation and maybe even starting your _own_? That way there’s _no_ snooping in your mail. 🙂

How about we remove acess to your mail box from corporations and other users in the videogame “Eve Online” by removing or heavily altering the ESI scope as to bring about a state in which you may freely use your mails, still retain your ability to forward mails on your own accord and ultimately enjoy the expected level of privacy for your private communication? 😉

Yes, its called not granting anyone else the scope that allows access, the scope is basically the same as using a 3rd party mail client like outlook express or thunderbird, you give it permission to login to the mail server and it has access to the mails, if you don’t give it permission then it can’t access them

You know, i find it really curious that you keep reacting so defensively, again and again, in this topic where we discuss user privacy and protecting them from unrestricted access by strangers. What exactly is bothering you about having privacy in your mailbox? Just curious, really! I’m just really wondering what has you so upset that you keep coming back here and repeating the same dismissal again and again in a topic that has no bearing on you whatsoever. It’s not like it would hurt you if users couldn’t be spied upon by other people, **right**?

Because you literally already have the tools to protect yourself, you’re asking CCP to step in and remove something that you already have complete control over, literally nobody can force you to grant them access to your mails, _you_ have to actively grant them that permission

Because you keep asking for CCP to waste development time and money on a feature that already exists, you already have complete control over who can or cannot access your mails, you are already able to keep all your communications private by not granting whatever app you want to use the scopes required to access them

You claim this dismissal has no place in this topic but thats just because you seemingly can’t understand that you already have the same tools you have in person to prevent people from reading your mails

What part of not clicking allow is that complicated?

Just curious

Let’s cut the theatrics about development time and resources: it’s a minor tweak we’re talking about, not reconstructing the entire EVE Universe. CCP won’t be breaking the bank by tweaking an ESI scope, so let’s not pretend like it’s some monumental effort.

And can we drop the over-simplified ‘just say no’ angle? This is bigger. It’s about the insidious norm of prying becoming standard fare. With more and more corporations making this a standard, choices for those that are valuing their privacy are dwindling, and they find themselves shut out from swathes of content.

This topic here isn’t just about a mere click of a button, it’s a conversation about the standard we’d like to see in the game. **ABSOLUTELY NOBODY** should have to opt out of content because they don’t want other people to salivate all over their private communications. Everybody deserves to play the game to its fullest without intrusive peering; or is this also too complicated for you? Do you also give out your login info when your corp asks you to? You _trust_ your fellow recruiters after all, don’t you?

So instead of taking this topic to dead-end ways to just sidestep the issue without adressing or fixing it, let’s just continue exploring what it would mean to shut down this spying on your mails and also if you are onboard with that.
And if you have an objection to that, instead of derailing the topic with ill-thought out antics, just raise them clearly and then we have something real to talk about.

With understanding regards
-James Fuchs

Its the creation of an entire new set of ACLs and the UI work to manage them, all to achieve the goal of you, just not clicking allow on the current UI

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> CCP won’t be breaking the bank by tweaking an ESI scope, so let’s not pretend like it’s some monumental effort.

Its an effort that could be spent on literally anything else when you already have the ability to refuse any given site or app from accessing your mails already

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> And can we drop the over-simplified ‘just say no’ angle? This is bigger. It’s about the insidious norm of prying becoming standard fare.

Its always been the standard fare for some of the more paranoid groups, new to EVE i assume?

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> With more and more corporations making this a standard, choices for those that are valuing their privacy are dwindling, and they find themselves shut out from swathes of content.

You know what the solution to that is?

Create your own corporation

You’re only shut out from content that you allow yourself to be shut out from, there is nothing actually preventing you from doing that content on your own or from starting your own corp/alliance that has those goals in mind, i think the issue ultimately boils down to you not wanting to do that though because it takes work and is hard

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> **ABSOLUTELY NOBODY** should have to opt out of content because they don’t want other people to salivate all over their private communications.

And they don’t, as per above literally nothing is stopping you from participating in that content other than yourself

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> Everybody deserves to play the game to its fullest without intrusive peering; or is this also too complicated for you?

And what part of “you can already do that” is too complicated for you to understand? you do know that there are more than a handful of corps and alliances in the game right? if you can’t find one that matches your needs perfectly then you can simply create it, iirc it costs like 1mil to start a corp so being from 2021 you can 100% afford that investment

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> Do you also give out your login info when your corp asks you to? You _trust_ your fellow recruiters after all, don’t you?

Not sure what login information has to do with refusing access to an ESI scope

We have already discussed it, you stop it by not giving them access, job done, mission complete, killboard green op success, you seem to think that handing out that access is gating you from doing any of the content the game has to offer when it actually doesn’t

> [@James\_Fuchs](#):
>
> And if you have an objection to that, instead of derailing the topic with ill-thought out antics, just raise them clearly and then we have something real to talk about.

I have raised them, but you don’t seem to like the facts i put forward and that there is no spying that you do not explicitly allow yourself, if you don’t like that a corp can read your mails, then don’t join one that requires access to them, its literally that simple

Why do people these days have to overcomplicate the most simple things

What derailing?

And its a video game emails. You shouldnt be sharing actual personal information in your evemails. Aside from account names for trading. You have TOTAL CONTROL over ANY ESI SCOPE.

Shoot just a few days ago we had someone come wanting to use our service but didnt want to create the skillboard, so i explained we cant give him service without it, so he left.

He chose to not create it due to the scopes and share that information. You have that same power.

And the derailing will be pointing out how he already has control over this and that its fairly trivial to just not want to join a corp that doesn’t align with your goals and desires

If i were a more conspiracy inclined pilot i would think he was trying to get CCP to make changes to make it easier to sneak spies and corp theft alts in to an unsuspecting group, not that any EVE player would want that 😛
