My only trick other than perserverance, and of course itā€™s entirely subjective, is to choose simpler, more natural looking backgrounds. I prefer not to use backgrounds that contain graphics or contrasting geometric shapes. Yea, itā€™s more a thing for when you want to make a new character with a nice portrait, not for your existing character. You could ask someone to make a portrait that you can copy, but then you still have to spend time and effort in the character editor to copy it. ---

The Character Customization page has a ā€˜Randomize Appearanceā€™ option on the left side of the page. I didnā€™t know the randomizer also took apparel into account, that seems useful! It also mixes in stock Apparel items with NES / Market Apparel items.
