1. Multiboxing has been around for at least 14 years (probably longer).
2. If they wanted to remove multiboxing, they’d have done it or made efforts to restrict it long ago.
3. The technology has increased manyfold to the point where they can’t prevent it now even if they wanted to (VM, VPN, etc.)
4. While multiboxing has become more prevalent (including mass multiboxers), it’s not necessarily any worse now than at any other time. It just seems that way.

I think multiboxing is one of the unique features of EvE Online, and it makes this a better game. If any task is too easy, you can always do it on two or three accounts simultaneously. So you can scale up the difficulty of any activity.

It’s a blessing… and a curse. I guess where you fall on the issue depends on your experience. I mean, it’s CCP’s fault: they required a second account for cynos to be able to fly capital ships solo… Things escalated (or progressed) from there.

Fenris just announced they’ve made the entire Carbon Engine that EvE and Frontiers runs on open source. Good luck getting all of the incoming hacking back in the bottle now that you’ve handed over the keys to the front, back, and side doors.

Got any evidence to substantiate this claim, that is has become more prevalent?

I’ve heard a lot of anecdotes claiming this, but I’ve never seen any actual numbers. I guess they might be hard to come by.

Eve client is pretty much a dumb terminal and ~all authority is server-side. Good luck.

Input automation rules aren’t related to multiboxing, except for in as much as they also apply there. You’re not allowed to macro on a single account, either.

The way it sounded in this thread, before you brought it up, this was a recent development. Now the OP sounds like he is complaining about a game feature very unlikely to be changed. Players will always find a cheat, it is just the way of games. The choice is to ignore them or join them.
@The_Dexter
I just ignore the cheaters in games. When a game becomes overloaded with cheaters, more than 40%, then I drop the game, and move on to others. That is my advice.

Macros and gaming keyboard and mice functions are forbidden, but you don’t need them anyway.

Try to exercise it: put one hand on the mouse and of the other hand the thumb on CTRL and the pointing finger on F1…the sequence CTRL-click, then F1 then move to next window and do the same goes almost faster than instantly with practice.

And younger folks might not know the great pictures of the early EVE days, so just for reference on how creative people are:

It’s just a gut impression, based on my own and others’ observations.

Other than the numbers CCP listed a few years back, no (average number of accounts, characters per player).

_As if_ ever more than 3 people existed that used such a setup in EVE Online 🤣

Which makes the whole thing an absolute non-issue in the greater picture.

Today’s equivalent is probably a server blade running a few dozen VMs with EVE-O Preview.

</div>

Yeah but that can be easily tackled by the EVE client software. It can always tell if it is running inside a VM or not, so CCP/FC could simply forbid that or enforce server side limitations on clients connected from a VM. It is all a question of what CCP/FC is willing to do against massmultiboxing or not. Atm I don’t see hints that they are even _willing to discuss the issue openly._
So I won’t expect changes on that any time soon. We are simply discussing here to let go a bit of frustration and keep the attention up, so when the time comes maybe more and more normal players begin to speak up against it in Interviews, Surveys, Content Creators and Media talking about it and maybe maybe even CCP/FC at some point feels enough pressure to actually put it on re-evaluation.

Can you explain the worst hazards of this to me in plain language? I have no programming experience and don’t really understand most computer stuff.

For Eve, very little, because the authority model skews enormously toward the server. There is a reason you’ve never seen common cheats like speedhacks and ESP in Eve, and it’s because the client isn’t actually doing much besides telling the server, “Hey, I’ve issued this command,” and then all aspects of the execution of that command are up to the server.

There _have_, occasionally, been a few “exploits” or data leaks; for instance, I recall during blackout that it was possible to detect the presence of a cloaked ship on grid with you using the game’s in-game network monitoring tools. Pretty sure that was fixed, but it wasn’t very usable for any practical benefit anyway.

We’re always at the whim of CCP/FC releasing any kind of numbers. Whenever they do it’s usually out of the blue and not repeated.
