> Are you sure about this? In high-sec, yes attackers expect Concord to arrive in under 30 seconds. They will loose their ships every time. Those players focus on destroying their target before Concord arrives. They warp into place, fire a volley, and battle over faster than medium hulls accelerate into warp. Solo players in high-sec do not limit themselves to medium and small hull types for higher level content like level 4 security missions. In high-sec, PvP is not a cat-and-mouse game. No, it is a cat-and-goldfish game with the cat wearing a goldfish costume.

In null sec players don’t even have a guaranteed CONCORD arrive after 20 seconds.

They fly even bigger ships.

And they also need to pay attention to what’s happening around them in local chat and on dscan if they don’t wish their ships to get caught and destroyed.

You’re lucky you only need to survive 30 seconds to live in HS. Make use of that mechanic, improve your buffer tank.

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> Sure. How do you figure over a minute? How do you expect players to stay glued to DScan during non-PvP content? Are your expectations appropriate for players navigating within high-security space?

It appears to me high sec players feel like they should be able to neglect many of the safety precautions players in other parts of the game have made part of their non-PvP routine, without decreasing their survival chance for it.

Of course you can neglect watching your surroundings. And most of the time it will go fine, because the threat of CONCORD discourages all but the most dedicated career criminals from taking attacks of opportunity against your ship in high sec space, unlike other parts of space where people would simply shoot you whenever you give them that opportunity.

But that doesn’t mean neglecting your directional scanner is expected of you.

You _are_ able to pay better attention and you _are_ able to get away from many ganks if you paid attention.

It’s up to you to choose to do that, or not.

Choosing to play chill in a cost-efficient ship without paying attention and accepting that you’ll die when you get caught is also a valid and possibly a profitable choice.

Just don’t expect to stay alive versus players who hunt you if you don’t want to put in effort yourself. Adjust your expectations.

The sig bloom only takes place when you activate the MJD, not when it’s not active. Why would it happen within the 3 minute reactivation delay? You MJD once away from the beacon, THEN start murderzoning the NPC while you slowboat to the next gate or whatever you have to do next. This is, among other measures, standard PVE practice for any competent PVE pilot in EVE.

What game mechanic would the gankers exploit? 🤔

This kind of thinking is again what Exordium now breeds into new players of EVE. This is why Exordium is a big mistake for EVE.

Literally _any_ fit if the pilot has a brain available, but for you, I would probably go with something like a bricky drake that nobody will ever notice or bother warping in on.

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> Level 3 and Level 4 security missions provide excitement as well.

Level 3 and Level 4 missions are basically just a form of mining that uses combat hulls. They are not exciting, they are not challenging. They are one of the game’s oldest resource distribution mechanisms and a couple decades of power creep have made them entirely trivial to run.

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> So? What exactly is wrong with players using mining hulls in high-sec?

Nothing at all! Don’t forget your mining permit!

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> What is the correct fit with PvP in mind on a mining barge?

A tanky one that isn’t worth ganking and/or a pilot who is even half awake.

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> How about those 10 Mobile Tractor Units lost? Where did those players make their mistake?

Leaving their MTUs in the field, obviously. Fortunately some local heroes were available to sweep up their space clutter. I love to see people taking care of their communities. 🫡

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> Sure. How do you figure over a minute?

Combat probing isn’t instantaneous, especially if someone is just hunting the system. They take time to warp into position, the scans take time to run, the gank ships need to jump into the system, warp to the site, slide at least one gate, burn to you (if you’re not just sitting where the accel gate dropped you) etc. It all takes time, and during that time, the intended victim can simply leave.

> [@Dark\_Rouge\_Pilot](#):
>
> How do you expect players to stay glued to DScan during non-PvP content?

We expect that because we’re all doing it ourselves and we know it isn’t that difficult. Your whole bit seems to be framing normal, every-day-Eve-things as if they’re practically impossible for a person to execute.

If you’re finding missions to be such an intense experience that you cannot periodically tap the V key and glance at the result window, that is very obviously a skill issue.

I’m a solo player and I enjoy it very much!

You keep missing the point regarding CONCORD. For the player being ganked, CONCORD does absolutely nothing. The ganking is over before CONCORD arrives. The gank victim never sees CONCORD ships warp into battle. Instead, assuming the victim warped out in the POD, they see all of the suspects slowly progress into regular pilots again. Lot of good that does after the ship loss. So, to that player’s perspective, there is no difference between a PVP ship loss in high-sec or null-sec.

As for flying larger and more expensive ships, I have a hard time believing that. How often does your alliance undock a capital ship and risk it in combat? For sub-capital ships, explain how you pilot ships larger and more expensive than exhumers (#1 ganked) and marauders (#7 ganked). Seems delusional on your part.

Brilliant strategy displayed in this conversation. Belittle and insult a player giving honest feedback on a gameplay issue interfering with the entertainment value of the game. Then, when they express thoughts of moving to a different game, insult them on the way out. So nice of Fenris to allow you to speak for them on their forum.

So, what game do you plan to play after Eve Online?

Excuse me, are you calling me delusional while asking whether we’re using capital ships more often in null sec than you use capital ships in HS or did I misunderstand that question?

Just yesterday I saw a post by one of my alliance members where they had dropped far too many Thanatoses at some poor roaming subcap. Yes, these are used in combat here.

Also we too lose Exhumers here in null, I lost one in the last couple of months to one of the frequent roaming gangs due to an unfortunately timed pc crash.

Allow me to point out a few salient points to you. One I mine, trade and explore. Not in that order. But you get the idea.

2 if you are not paying attention to your overview and dscan. Then you are chum.. In Eve outside of exordium. PVP is always a possibility. Pay the freak attention or be chum for the sharks.

3 talking about going to another game makes everyone wonder why are you even here? If you are rage/quitting then do so. Everyone here has seen enough of those posts from players like yourself.Came into the game thinking it was just another vanilla space game witrh some PVP. It is not

PVP is the name of the game. Losing ships is going to happen. to you, me, and everyone here. You can avoid it for just so long and then boom your ship is a pretty fireball in the sky. Either learn to deal with it. Learn and adapt your game play to be smarter, better.. or be the rage/post that will bemuse and be just another in a long line of players. That would not learn or adapt to a full on PVP game.

The choice you make is the one where you will either be here ten years from now. Or just another sad player that would not learn or adapt. I hope for the former, but have the feeling it will be the latter. Prove me wrong. Learn and adapt.

Truthfully, high-sec sucks enough without ganking. Many players hang out in high-sec because it’s geared towards more casual play; ganking just makes it more insufferable.

Low-sec, null and wormhole space each have their own pros and cons, but generally require more of a commitment than high-sec.

It would be interesting to see what the EVE player count would be if FC disabled red safety in high-sec for a month.

I agree with this sentiment; but, I’m the flipside of your curiosity coin Arthur, @Arthur_Aihaken .

I whole heartedly agree one of the attractions of Highsec is you don’t have to conform to the “group rules” of nullsec.

Where I differ is I hate NPCs, with a passion. I started EVE in 2013, and like most players do when they start I mined, then I missioned. And, I hated missions. I hated how they were written. I almost quit. It wasn’t that I found them boring, though I did find them boring, what I objected to most was the casual insinuations of morality. Courier missions to deliver toxins. There was one mission, if I remember correctly, the agent wanted another npc killed because he disliked him. I refused the mission, and the dialogue box said something about maybe “he’d” overreacted, I can’t remember exactly, but I kept wondering what was going on. How was that exchange suppose to be entertaining. Who would even find it entertaining?

If I had my druthers, I’d rip the whole system out.

The only reason I stayed was because of a ganker. I’d been playing a few weeks and a ganker tried to gank me in Pulin. I was playing the game and spotted them, and moved my venture in time for the gank to fail. The ganker opened a convo and asked how I survived. We had a very pleasant conversation, about fits, awareness. I remember it to this day.

Anyhow, as soon as I learned I did not have to participate in missioning I dropped it like a hot rock. I mined for another few months, and did DED’s 3s and 4s to earn income. In the end, I transitioned entirely to player to player interactions, I buy, I sell, I manufacture, I scheme, and compete with other players. I travel to tourist destinations, and try to organize races, and scavenger hunts.

But, I hate missions, I wish they were gone, period, so I’m the flip side of your curiosity, cause I’d like to know what this game would be like without them.

I’d rip missions and Concord out entirely. But, I don’t think I spend enough on the game for Fenris to indulge me and my curiosity.

This is just my perspective and how I perceive the game; but, I do realize you see it differently.

But, we do agree on the attraction of “more casual play”.

</div>

I hate missions with a passion. Not quite as much as mining, but it’s up there. In terms of casual/risk averse activities in high-sec, though - there aren’t a lot. I manufacture and sell on a limited scale as well. I run into too many disconnects and power outages to seriously consider Abyssals (though I have done them). I make most of my ISK through missions, so it’s very much a hate/hate-less relationship. But mostly hate.

Gankers just make it more insufferable because I’m already doing something I don’t enjoy in the first place.

</div>

If you don’t enjoy missions and don’t enjoy the risk of ganks while doing it, have you considered other activities in the game?

I never see gankers where I fly and also never do missions as the idea of running repetitive scripted NPC goals in a game about player interaction doesn’t interest me.

In short, it is possible to earn ISK without missions and without risks of suicide ganks. Here in null I simply get killed if I’m slow while mining/exploring/huffing/hauling or doing conbat sites.

Just adding to your thoughts as in fact there are just so many choices that one can go from here:

- Ragequit
- Get on “the other side” → become a ganker
- Learn how to survive → see tips in this thread
- Do something else instead of mission running → join a nullsec alliance or do station trading or become a ship builder or whatever else of the myriads of things you can do in EVE

You don’t have to necessarily get into PVP yourself if you don’t like it, but you can always adapt your gameplay to avoid losses. It is possible. Always.

It is however a thing of acquiring knowledge and willingness to adapt accordingly. It is a learning process and as such there will be certainly a few ship losses included as is normal for a learning curve. However, you need to make sure that the learning actually happens or we are back at the Ragequit again.

Let’s predict some results of a ‘no gank month’:

1. High sec ship destruction goes down
2. Gankers show far less activity than usual
3. Multibox miners in HS show far more activity than usual
4. Influx of minerals mined in HS rises

What are the conclusions we could draw from this experiment in the hypothetical scenario these were the results?

Cost of living increases, interaction decreases, risk decreases and multiboxing increases. I don’t think would be an improvement to the game even if the ganker numbers were to be replaced by larger miner alt numbers.

But maybe you’re wishfully thinking of a different outcome of a no-ganking month:

 ![image](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/a/3/f/a3fdea8d57c999842a32b99783840813b2796509.jpeg)

Personally I’m not a fan of reducing the amount of interaction in MMOs. It tends to turn them into solo games where other players are merely background instead of a part of the game you play.
