The limitations of the game engine seems to be at the core of all this.

A variation is that I can shoot and mine thro a rock yet still get hung up on it instead of being able to warp away.

Bottom line, it is what it is. And altho I would like proper collision mechanics, and other more realistic scenarios around interactions with “solids”, it seems unlikely it is going to happen.

CCP have never contended that.

I think CCP’s contention is different. There are certainly players that want to play alone; and for the most part they can if they want.

What CCP has found is that more people stick with the game if they have other people around to help them.

So it’s more likely that the game really doesn’t grab most new players, since for the most part, the things that new platers are shown to do, are boring as hell. As a result, most people who try the game don’t get that moment that makes it click, but more get that moment when they get involved in some of the deeper activities, which is easier to do with the assistance of other players.

Hmm. You might be correct. Couldn’t find the thread or whatever that I had read. I may have picked that up wrong. Maybe it is getting “killed”, rather than being ganked _per se_? Isn’t that why getting podded is one of the tutorial missions, to get players used to the idea.

Not new then.

How long is a player expected to be part of the game without experiencing _ **the game** _.

Are we now suggesting players should be off-limits for a year? And you’re talking about a player going to lowsec to gas mine, but when he comes back to hisec and hauls 200mil of gas products in a tech1 hauler the gankers are bad people for shooting him?

Or perhaps you misunderstood the context of what was being said.

I second that.

But - eve is not and should not be a game where you just can do your thing. That’s why there are single player games on the market.

And ganking is just a reminder there is no safe place in eve except staying docked

Counter play? To farming some ore or ice? And I never suggested immunity either just a reduction in the effect bumping has on larger ships or ships with mods like the bastion mod or mods that add weight. That’s it. I never suggested some extreme change other then the desire for more realistic mechanics that I admitted would be game breaking.

Bumping should still keep ships from warping, bumping should still keep ships from gates or stations just not send them flying in a ridiculous fashion.

OP: not bad advice, a bit salty in the delivery, but not entirely wrong. Ganking is an interesting, divisive game play style. Even though it doesn’t always taste great, it does indeed add some spice to Eve

Other posters: This is not the best place to ask for mechanics changes. Learn to fight back, make friends, or business arrangements with those who can help.

There are a few ways you can help and in turn be helped. Sharing Intel with us and being part of anti-gank operations is a valuable tool. Tell us what you know about the ganker operations in the area and we can work on a response plan.

If you are interested in participating in weaponized responses you can throw an alt into our corp (-NEPF) and get trained on anti-gank PVP techniques, join our fleets when convenient, and help shape a defense against these maniacal bastids. Our killboard shows our success: [New Eden Police Force | Corporation | zKillboard](https://zkillboard.com/corporation/98407112/)

If you just want to throw some revenge money at your foes we have just released a new bounty system which we feel is an improvement on the in-game mechanics. Visit [https://handsup.space/](https://handsup.space/) to read about the details, put in a bounty, or embark upon a career as a hunter yourself!

We are starting an initiative to provide hauler escorts through known ganker choke points. If you want to hire an escort fleet to move your assets then let us know!

You can also support anti-gank efforts through promotion, education, logistical, and financial support of our anti-gank fleets. We can’t stop every gank (and don’t really want to), but with support that percentage will continue to grow.

Economic competition.

Bumping is either effective, or it isn’t. If bumping can be countered just by approaching an object, it’s not effective. If it _can’t_ be countered just by approaching an object, then whether a ship can be bumped near or far doesn’t matter because it would be equally disruptive.

And bumping has already been changed to not being able to perpetually prevent warping.

Lol, fair enough. It is rather amusing that some of these hard core farmers would not only have 3+ accounts to farm but make another just to harass others in the area. Sure some could just have friends, but I get the impression it’s mostly about me, myself and I.

This is the crux of the issue (if, indeed it _ **is** _ an “issue”). I don’t believe having the ability to do your own thing has to be incompatible with everywhere being risky.

How to do that (more)? Wouldn’t have a clue. But I still have suspicion that if it could be done it would improve player numbers.

Would it actually improve “the game” at same time? That might be moot/ depend on personal perspective. But, more pilots flying around, doing their thing or interfering with those doing their thing, has to be good. Surely?

You forgot the most important word of my statement:

> [@Lara\_Agnon](#):
>
> eve is not and should not be a game where you **just** can do your thing.

It’s about awareness. You can do whatever you want in eve as long as you always remember it’s an MMO where there are more players, possibly hostile towards you.

Players who interact with others will always have an advantage over those who just do their thing.

As I said elsewhere several years ago - I enjoy mining. Not 24/7, just when I am in the mood. Most of my mining time, I do that when I play alone and do my thing. But I am always aware that there is the possibility of getting ganked and in fact, I have been ganked several times. That’s just fine with me and a good gank will always get a gf, a failed gank will result in me smacktalking in local.

But even when nothing is happening, the fact it could happen anytime adds some spice to playing eve.

Exactly.

That is the crux of the issue … is there enough opportunity provided for players to actually “do” their own thing? My suspicion is that there is not.

Based on what though?

Think about how player interaction is absolutely essential to eve’s core game design. What are your expectations for being able to do your own thing? Because if it involves generating wealth whilst safely isolated it is fundamentally incompatible with eve’s design.

I appreciate the useful tips. I don’t understand the ganking mentality–the “why” behind it–but at least you’ve summarized some of the lessons would-be targets could learn.

There have been a few incidents where I’ve been ganked and haven’t reacted well. It may happen that someone will accuse me of having been childish, and I’m afraid I’ve been guilty.

While making a transport run–especially between highsec and nullsec–gives me a feeling of accomplishment, that’s because the path is fraught with danger. I begrudgingly admit, gankers fuel that sense of accomplishment when one can avoid them.

I’ve learned quite a bit through hard experience. Gankers are indiscriminate and homicidal. They’ll drop a bubble on a pod and waste missiles on it just for grins and giggles. You’re never safe unless you’re docked. I’ve whined about it, but like I said, part of the reward comes from the fact gankers exist.

While I’ve learned plenty of workarounds for a lot of ganking situations, there’s one thing I can’t figure out how to defend against: warping into a bubbled gate. It seems like no matter what kind of MWD or AB I’ve got, I can’t just get out of the bubble before I get shredded.

There’s also the bot gankers, but those are just cheaters who should be banned from the game wholesale. When a ganker follows me almost lockstep through a system, it raises some suspicions.

Warping into a bubbled gate, you need pings around the gates, I had a vast bookmark collection of pings set up over many years of play. The other thing you will have an issue with is using a gate and finding a bubble there, but you need to have scouts to deal with that.
