With the upcoming Guristas Hunt event, we will see the addition of the new Hydra pirate implant set. Initially, this implant set was announced at Eve North 2019, and was slated to grant drone hitpoints. I was not impressed. However, this is no longer the case! Yesterday’s Singularity update included, among many other pieces of data, two specific string updates that are very interesting.

First up, string 562532:

```auto
This memory augmentation has been modified by Guristas scientists for use by their elite officers.
Primary Effect: +4 Bonus to Memory
Secondary Effect: 1.5% bonus to drone tracking speed, drone optimal range, drone falloff range, missile flight time, and missile explosion velocity
Set Effect: 15% bonus to the strength of all Hydra implant secondary effects
Note: Has no effect on fighters
```

This implant grants +4 to the Memory attribute, indicating that it is a High-grade Hydra Beta implant. These effects _directly_ counter the environmental factors in Dark Abyss sites that impact the Gila’s ability to apply damage. The enemies move fast, and drone turrets receive a sharp penalty to both optimal and falloff. This implant set improves missile explosion velocity, partially countering the enemy speed increase. Additionally, the optimal/falloff penalty is directly addressed, and the additional tracking addresses the enemy speed increase for your drones as well.

While we cannot assume that this extrapolation will be accurate, or even that these attributes are final, we do know that the shown attributes match the recently-added High-grade Savior Beta implant, and the set has the following attributes:

```auto
Per-slot bonus: 1% / 1.5% / 2% / 2.5% / 3%
High-grade Savior - 15% set bonus per slot, 50% bonus for Omega, total bonus of 26.8%, and +4 to each character training attribute.
Mid-grade Savior - 10% set bonus per slot, 25% bonus for Omega, total bonus of 18.6%, and +3 to each character training attribute.
Low-grade Savior - 2.5% set bonus per slot, 10% bonus for Omega, total bonus of 11.9%, and +2 to each character training attribute.
```

Next up, string 562806:

```auto
Named after an aquatic demon worm from ancient Minmatar mythology, this neural interface upgrade boosts the optimal range of drones and fighters controlled by the pilot.
3% increase in drone and fighter optimal range.
```

This appears to be a hardwire implant, and my prediction is that this will be a limited-time item, similar to other limited-time event-based rewards, and will likely be available in two or three different strengths. I cannot tell what hardwire slot (6-10) this will be for, but I doubt it will be for slot 6 which would cause it to conflict with Omega implants.

As the Hydra set is being added permanently, and the hardwire is likely to be limited-time, it makes sense that the Hydras do not impact fighters, while the hardwire will.

A last little prediction regarding this hardwire - the “aquatic demon worm” which is the stated namesake of this implant is more than likely to be the recently discovered eldritch horror named Valdimar the Worm, found in the CCP fish tank and who had been surreptitiously culling the tank population for years, referenced in the Pulse video [here](https://updates.eveonline.com/card/0E0gh/eve-pulse-apocrypha-trailer-v2-valdimar-the-worm-botting-more/). Poor @FC_Convict, first they let the beast eat him, and then they name an implant after it, adding insult to injury.

What does this mean for a Gila build? This remains to be seen. The changes I will be tinkering with will likely be only in the midslots and rigs, will involve the removal of tank (an active omni resist mod), the addition of at least one stasis webifier, and the addition of Drone Scope Chip rigs. The loss of the Crystal implants and resists will be acceptable, as incoming damage in Dark Abyss sites is greatly reduced compared to other weathers; the challenge to the Gila in Dark weather is application, not tank.

Once these implants are available, I will experiment more and publish a build that allows us to complete these sites in our beloved Gilas, at long last, and then we can wear the Abyssal Darkfield SKIN with pride!

As neat as this is, I think I’m gonna stick with my HG Crystals. I don’t think the increase in application is going to be worth losing 50%+ shield repping power. Especially in T5s.

Dark sites, not others. In Tier 5 Dark sites, each room will have either a 50% or 70% penalty to the optimal and falloff of all turrets, including NPCs, player ships, and drones. In addition to this, both NPCs and players gain 50% velocity. These environmental factors result in significantly reduced incoming damage, thus obviating the need for Crystal implants entirely.

Without these implants, the Gila, as well as any other ship that utilizes drones as a primary weapon system are incapable of reliably and quickly clearing Dark Abyss sites. This has created a situation in which the Gila is limited to the other four types of Abyssal weathers - Exotic, Firestorm, Electrical, and Gamma, leaving only the Sacrilege as a hull capable of being built to reliably clear all weathers. Now, with these implants, Gila now has configurations that are valid for all five Abyssal weathers just as Sacrilege can.

I don’t really giveashit.

T5s have a remarkably high amount of DPS for each room (unless you’re unlucky and get the dumb Trig Dread Construction room). I don’t care how good your application is, I would rather take the 50%+ bonus in shield booster repping power over damage applications.

I think there is a misunderstanding here, ships that use drones as a primary weapon system are actually not generally capable of beating the timer in Tier 5 Dark Abyss sites due to the application issues, and will lose extremely frequently because of that.

I have seen Andy Virus ([twitch.tv/andy\_virus](http://twitch.tv/andy_virus)) fly a special-built Gila in Tier 5 Dark sites that he designed as a bit of a joke/challenge build, just to see if it is even possible. He removed most of the tank, and uses dual webs, as well as Drone Scope Chip rigs, and it still has a very tough time actually making it out before the timer expires. Incoming damage is not actually the issue. I can try to dig up a VOD if you like, or maybe he has one recorded that I can ask him for.

I can’t conceive of a build other than extreme application support that would have any sort of decent chance of getting out alive before the timer expires, but I am always trying to find new builds that I haven’t thought of. If you could share your Tier 5 Dark Gila build that uses Crystals, I’d love to give it a shot.

And you seriosly think some implants will fix that? it will help a little , yes, but it is more for rattlesnake pilots in non-abyss PvE, than for Gila pilots in Abyss.

I mainly believe in this because of Andy Virus already being able to do it with a decent amount of success with Drone Scope Chip rigs and double webs, but I do not assume that we will be able to fully, mathematically counter the effects. I do believe that we will be able to counter this enough for it to work. However, the real truth will be known only through testing, which I will diligently perform and report on.

The Hydra implants have been added, with the expected attributes, as well as new 1/3/5% ‘Valdimar’ implants for slots 7, 8, 9, and 10, granting drone/fighter benefits of max velocity, optimal range, repair amount, and hitpoints, respectively. These slots 7-10 implants do _NOT_ have the limited time badge on them, and may be permanent.

Slightly unrelated sorry. I was on sisi with a Gila fit and had ran about 20 of T2 exotics fine. I ran a few exotic T3 and was also fine. Then I jumped into another T3, in the first room were about 7/8 cruisers, with sensor damps and if I recall a target painter or two. Where the npc were, was a huge signature cloud taking up most the room (about 30/40k from warp in). Directly on warp in was a tracking bonus tower, they rushed me at the tower. I think you can see where this is going, all of the near by zone was over lapped with a choice of go in sig cloud or keep the 6/7 cruisers in the tower range. Due to the way the spawn and zone was and really small confines on this room… I was stuck in the middle of no man’s land.

The fit I had was essentially a Mwd cap stable with a medium A-type shield booster 2x invul, large faction cap2 etc etc. I know a lot of people use large booster/ab but in this particular room that would have been even worse… (it was very high peak damage) as you’d be stuck in one zone or the other even longer while not cap stable. I had to MWD to the edge of the red mesh and try and skirt around the sig cloud to break range from the rats that were getting tower bonus, but it didn’t work out. Obviously this is only test server but I’m wondering is this kind of room layout and small size is really unlucky? or are you often put into that position of having nowhere to go in T3?. The fit seemed to sail past everything else… but maybe it’s the issue.

This actually just means your fit is bad and needs to be improved. Gilas can easily run T5 Abyssals on their own with no problem. If you’re having trouble with T3s, your fit is the problem.

Yes I know very well that Gilas run T5, do you expect me to jump 1.5bil worth of ship/implants/boosters into a T3 when trying to learn?, I am trying to find the cheapest fit ship to do T3 that is not over kill like most the set-ups you see. I’ve flown speed tanked min ships a lot, and know full well about the sig pen and scram issues I was to face and I have little issue avoiding it. The problem I am asking is not about the tank itself, It was more than ample as It’s got under BS ranges even when webed, I tested this kind of thing for worse case. My question is about the environment, is it often that you will be forced in one of two zones, 300% sig or NPC getting tracking bonus from tower. I had only ran about 25 abyssals at that point so I don’t know if that kind of small room with a huge cloud is common in T3. If it is obviously I need to rethink medium shield booster and mwd speed tank. The only reason to use MWD is it’s alot faster and to ensure to get all cans. It’s much faster than normal MTU.

Sorry, used trade toon by accident.

It’s generally not productive to toss a fitting at someone at tell them to have at it. I prefer to discuss the mechanics involved and help train someone to understand and pilot through the content, so they can tune the challenge to their liking.

The choice between flying a cruiser, or 1, 2, or even three frigates, as well as the choice of weather, tier, tank, weapon system, propulsion, and other fittings are all informed by preferred tactics, skillpoints, player ability level, and desired challenge.

I will gladly help anyone who wishes to learn this content to get their heads around it so they can achieve their goals in it with a fitting of their own choosing.

The talk was about CHEAP fit for T3 abyss. That caracal fit is under 40M, gila alone is 280M. Not to mention that people will learn more by using this caracal than that semi-auto gila…

Understood. I am not judging that fitting at all, or comparing it to a Gila or anything else. I am suggesting that the best thing a player can do is attempt to learn the content itself as opposed to work with any specific fitting thrown at them. Good luck doing T3 with caracal w/o knowing abyss well enough… it is not easy mode. I bet I could do T4 in cerberus, but I am not sure T5 is something that RLML is suited for… reload times are killer after all.
