When did you last get an email from Pearl Abyss informing you about news for EVE Online?

well, never, but they do own ccp. pearl abyss is too busy adding microtransactions for skimpy half animal anime girls to everything except eve. Thank God for that at least

Thank you, this is fair feedback, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it in detail! o7

On the first point, yes, in many cases I do mean CCP, but not every question is limited strictly to CCP alone. In some places I am also interested in the broader communication environment around the game at the publisher level, so I used the more general term publisher as part of the academic framing rather than only CCP. That said, I understand why this may sound unusual in the context of EVE, especially because for most players the direct communication they actually receive about the game comes from CCP rather than from Pearl Abyss as the parent company.

As for toxic behavior, I left it intentionally broad because it can take many different forms and different players may interpret or experience it differently. In this case, the question is aimed more at players’ own perceptions and feelings of encountering toxicity rather than at identifying one fixed or universally agreed list of toxic behaviors.

And on question 24, I understand your point. I do not support any TOS or EULA violating transactions myself, but for the purposes of the research I still have to account for all forms of real money use connected to the game, because they are part of the broader economic reality surrounding it. Answering this question does not imply support for any particular practice, but simply indicates whether real money has been used within the game’s economic environment in any form. This is more important in the context of my research because I am studying how players relate to the game’s economy as a whole and how real economic elements enter that space, rather than building a legal or moral classification of each specific transaction type. For my purposes, the key issue at this stage is the very presence of real money within the economic life of the game, since that already affects how the in game economy can be perceived and experienced by players.

And also, regarding question 24… A more detailed analysis of the specific forms of real money involvement in the game economy is also something I plan to do, but that would require a separate study because it is a much broader and more complex topic. At this stage, I am focusing on the more general issue of whether real money is present in the economic environment of the game at all. Still, thank you for pointing this out, because it is a valuable remark!

In most cases, a developer, and publisher are two different entities. IE

Visual Concepts - Developer
2K, publisher.

</div>

Yeah, that is true in many cases. I used publisher in a broader academic sense, because here I am interested more in the general communication environment around the game than in drawing a strict distinction between developer and publisher as separate industry roles. And thank you for completing the survey, I really appreciate it! o7

I have seen a lot of people in-game, whining about all the toxicity. However, if you ever ask those folks who and how, it invariably comes down to someone killed their space ship. Those folks, infact, post such rage filled mails aimed at upstanding citizens like Aiko, and are the only actual source of toxicity in EVE.

CCP is both the Game Studio (Devs) and Publisher, Pearl Abyss is just the Owner/Investor. CCP is still mostly a self-governing Studio.
