In my opinion, future of this game depends on whales that are already hooked. If they stop buying these absurd ammount of plexes to sell them for ISK then all these multiboxers, me included, will stop playing more than 2 accounts at best and the PCU drops considerably. And then the effect of an empty pub appears and players will be like “10k players? there is no point”. Which further lowers PCU and the vicious cycle begins.

I suppose it is no mutually exclusive as new players can turn into whales too, but all these suggestiions to prevent new players to lose ships or to disable pvp in highsec will also lead to less PLEX being bought because the whales will not be losing their officier mods Marshals in Uedama anymore.

If the eponymous ‘they’ join a corp such as Absolute Order…they get SRP ship replacement anyway. This is one of the reasons CCP like for noobs to join corps.

Also worth noting that noob Ventures can be automatically replaced simply by doing again the mission that gets one. Also…a basic gaussian laser Venture can cover its own cost within a couple of trips to the asteroid belts anyway. There’s really no reason for any noob to ‘run out of ISK’.

Being ganked had the _reverse_ effect on me. I was bored and probably would have left out of boredom ( which I suspect is a FAR larger reason than ganking for people leaving ). Now all of a sudden I was Khan…wanting to get even. And the rest is history…( and 3 years later I did get even ).

I haven’t had any Ship Insurance for the past 16 yrs… In fact most players don’t have any insurance on their ships… In-game Ship Insurance is a waste, it’s an ISK sink that for the most part, doesn’t even work… Even at full payout, in-game Ship Insurance doesn’t cover the cost of replacing the ship…

If CCP is going to change in-game Ship Insurance, they need to make the payout cover the market cost of replacing everything that is destroyed per the kill report… I’m talking about Ship hull, rigs and modules… Just the fitted items listed in the kill report that are destroyed…

Now I wouldn’t be opposed to CCP implementing a 30 day free ship replacement program for new characters, basically have it tied in with new player chat which automatically closes at the end of 30 days… The actual cost of an inexperienced new player ship is miniscule compared to the cost of experienced Veteran player ships…

And yeah, the system could easily be abused by older experienced players creating new alt characters and injecting mass quantities of skill injectors to pilot Capital ships within a week… CCP could put a Tech 1 Cruiser cap on the 30 day free ship replacement program to help stop experienced players from blatantly abusing it with new alt characters…

Anyway, I gave you a ‘LIKE’ for thinking outside of the box… Gratz for doing that and don’t stop thinking of different ways to help improve Eve Online… But just remember this, if you do think of an excellent idea, CCP usually spends years bouncing it off their whiteboards before they’ll actually implement it…

And if they do implement it, it won’t be the same as the original idea… Over the years CCP has implemented mutated versions of good suggestions and ideas from players about new items, ships, game mechanics, etc… Case in point, Skill Extractors / Injectors… Also the Bowhead, Noctis.. The list goes on…

Not sure if this is true anymore but I’ve read that CCP used to say that being ganked was one of the factors that made it **more likely** the player in question stayed in the game. This was supported by actual statistics and what players who stayed and left gave as reasons for their decision.

Now one could claim this would still be true with your idea of full insurance but I’m not so sure that would be the case. It’s also likely that the new player would develop bad habits during those first 30 days that would make for a rude awakening after the period is over.

Yeah, that old CCP Rice presentation was basically rebuked 5 years later by CCP Hilmar’s 2019 presentation - Beyond The Friendship Machine - which starts @ 37.07 and ends @ 44.10… CCP Hilmar talks about new players and ‘The Magic Moment’ @ 42.50…

[![](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/3X/f/9/f91e98264c7f855b9d964fe468d9c88eade65a17.jpeg "EVE Down Under 2019 - Beyond The Friendship Machine") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw67gb6eoYk&t=2226)

The Magic Moment is basically when new players get non-consensually PVP’d… That whole segment about new player retention and the graph he presents clearly counters that old CCP Rise presentation, which by the way was only done on new players with 2 weeks in the game…

> CCP Hilmar:
>
> Data and research suggests that some of the most powerful onboarding experiences we have in terms of retention in the game are player established fleet roams for new players in a mentorship style.
>
> From 2006 to 2015, Agony Empire had nearly 10,000 pilots go through their ‘Fleet Roams For Newbies’ class and 82% of those players were still playing one year later.
>
> CCP doesn’t have any initiatives for new players like that and wants to support community efforts to build bigger fleets and corps.
>
> We try to get them to die with us, that is the most important moment.

Getting revenge is the clue to what he’s talking about… He’s not referring to ‘Devastating Loss’ as happening in a big fleet fight with other players because losing a ship there is to be expected… Nor is he talking about PvE because you can’t get revenge on AI NPC’s… He’s talking about being alone and getting attacked resulting in ship loss… Not understanding why it happened, not having a social support group, no hope of being able to respond and get back on their feet and get revenge… In other words, brand new players getting ganked…

Surely any such insurance would have to take into account the player’s history, losses, etc, just as RL insurance does. Having a string of expensive losses _should_ cost a person more when it comes to insurance.

That is _demonstrably_ a nonsense assertion. In Hilmar’s presentation, out of 12,851 who started a week…only 1,235 were left at the end of it. To suggest that this is entirely due to the ridiculous concept of ‘non-consensual PvP’ is rubbish…as in the course of an entire week there are only 11,650 ship losses in the entirety of highsec. _By far_ the majority of those are losses to NPCs, as even a cursory glance at killboard shows. The rest is wardecs, suspects, etc…with ganking way down the list.

And in fact…as this slide from 2015 shows, 85% of all noob disappearances in the first 15 days do not even lose a ship. Only 1% are actually ganked. Yet we keep on and on and on and on and on getting the _lie_ that its due to ganking.

 ![slide2](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/3X/0/e/0e44741fa5e6d55b767f788cd876a5e7de38fa13.jpeg)

How on Earth can ganking be the major cause of noobs leaving, when 85% of all noobs who leave have not even lost a ship ? It is just plain absurd that people focus on the 1% and just ignore the other 99% who left for reasons other than ganking. But I guess the actual facts just don’t fit the narrative some have invented.

I fully respect and understand the position of highsec gankers. Especially since there would be no other way to contest space with the new war dec changes.

And this is coming from somebody who quit this game twice after being ganked. The real reason isn’t because I lost my ship though. It’s because both of my friends I was playing with at the time didn’t like the idea that people could shoot their hulks and orcas in high-sec and I was left alone.

Personally as somebody who played this during the golden days of high-sec mining I do believe the culture of high-sec ganking being more popular than high-sec mining is definitely hurting ship prices with the massive loss of high-sec industry players.

To some though the loss of this competition is desired as they become the sole provider of ships. All totally understandable.

Also the proliferation of EVE botting back in the day lead to the culture of mass hunting and ganking of miner bots in high-sec.

It’s definitely a sandbox!

What’s rubbish is how you can’t even comprehend what CCP Hilmar is saying 5 years later because you’re still clinging to that 💩 CCP Rice posted…

CCP Rice based his stats on 2 week old new players who quit the game… 5 years later CCP Hilmar did his study on new players over the course of 90 days, most of who quit the game which was the basis for his presentation…

Also I never said all of them quit due to ganking… Stop trying to twist things out of context… Either you don’t understand basic English or you just didn’t bother to read the entire post.. This is what CCP Hilmar said:

> CCP Hilmar:
>
> Devastating Loss is really like, we now call it The Magic Moment, at the moment you lose your first spaceship is the moment whether, either you have enough understanding of why it happened, and or you have the social network to help you through it, then you play forever. >
> Understanding why it happened, a ray of hope that you can respond and get back on your feet and get revenge, and social support. During the Magic Moment, that is what makes an elite Eve player.

Since you lack basic comprehension of the English Language… Getting revenge is the clue to what he’s talking about… He’s not referring to ‘Devastating Loss’ as happening in a big fleet fight with other players because losing a ship there is expected… And he’s definitely not talking about PvE because you can’t get revenge on AI NPC’s…

He’s talking about new players being alone and getting attacked resulting in ship loss… He said the reason most of them quit after suffering their first ‘Devastating Loss’ is not understanding why it happened, not having a social support group, no hope of being able to respond, get back on their feet and get revenge…

That’s the key phrase - ‘and get revenge’… Since you obviously lack basic reading skills, what he’s referring to is brand new players getting ganked… If you can’t comprehend that, then you’re even more of a fool than what I already think you are…

So if you have an issue with what CCP Hilmar said, go talk to him about it.. Now stop bothering me with your stupid 💩 replies…

Nah. You still don’t get it. According to CCPs _own stats_…that is just 1% of players who leave in the first 15 days. What about the 85% who never had a loss at all ? Why the obsession with the 1% and the _complete ignoring_ of the 85 times larger amount who never had any ‘non consensual PvP’ ? Huh ?

I guess the 85% just don’t fit the narrative.

And if Hilmar truly cared about ‘devastating loss’ for noobs…he’d actually note that by far the largest loss of noob ships is to NPCs ( which is also most of the ‘legal deaths’ in the chart ). The irony ! CCP themselves gank more noobs than gankers do.

Wow, you really are dense in the head… Try looking at newer info because your precious chart from 2015 is outdated and irrelevant… Besides that, you have no access to in-game stats so you have no idea what numbers CCP Hilmar is looking at…

Er…nonsense. It’s the easiest thing in the world to search specific parameters on killboard and firmly establish that most noob deaths are due to NPCs. Which means most of the ‘devastating loss’ of poor noob Ventures is due to CCP themselves.

I don’t think these ideas are contradictory. Some seem to be arguing that Hilmar’s views replaced Rice’s, but I would say that Hilmar merely clarified the facts. Of course, you cannot have a magic moment, without a significant loss. You cannot go through the process of becoming a true EvE player, until this occurs. Ship spinners and forum posters aren’t actually playing the game. It is only loss that turns you into an elite capsuleer. It is only suffering that brings us closer to the Gods. In order to spread the suffering amongst all, we must gank new players, and teach them a lesson. Boredom, not PvP, is the #1 reason new players quit the game.

We must help the newbros!
