Hey so I’ve decided to start out by trying mining. From what I’ve read, watched and experienced the goal is the mine as much as you can as fast and possible and gtfo. Due to this my venture has no defensive capabilities. I’ve been venturing out the null-sec for some need resources for a blueprint but keep running into gate campers that shut down my systems as soon as I jump in. I had a micro warp equipped so that one is on me but I hadn’t even gotten to anything yet and couldn’t escape. Obviously some people just live to grief but other than that what is the point? What am I supposed to do because I am solo player.

Update: Thank you to everyone that has provided actual CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and genuine advice. I was planning to get into gas/wormhole mining but as I’m just starting out I figured I would work out the basic kinks first. As much as I like doing everything myself I will take some of your advice and find some groups.

I do disagree with the mentality some of you have. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you have to but your actions and words speak a lot about you as a person. This is a video game which is meant to be fun and enjoyed, not everything is sunshine and rainbows all the time but I can tell it also is an outlet for some of you to further be the kinds of people that you are. Here is my tip for you have some humanity.

Thank you again for those of you that have helped in a meaningful, constructive way I will make note of you.

Not be a solo player.

There are many nullsec corps that are open to letting newbies join, they’ll teach you what to do and how things work, offer mining fleets with boosts for you to join, offer ships for fleet activities, buy your ore, etc.

Take that Venture into wormholes and huff gas with it, then sell that gas for the ISK you need to buy the minerals for that BP. Wormhole Life, Best Life.

😁

Probe gas site, warp in, mine for 20 minutes til Sleepers spawn, then move to next gas site/wormhole. As long as you pay attention to D-scan, you’ll see most people coming. Even if you don’t see them, it takes just over 2 ore holds full of low end gas to replace the Venture, everything after that is profit.

EVE isn’t a game designed for solo play? Did you miss the sign saying “online multiplayer game” at the door? You either make friends and learn how to play or you get hunted and killed by those who have made friends and have learned how to play. Simple as that.
If you drop down on a CoD Warzone™ Battle Royale map, you do expect to get shot, do you?

Whats the problem understanding that EVE is one huge persistent Warzone™ map on which you drop down on login and you can try to grab as many loot as you can and equip yourself as much as you can, but there are _always_ others around you that already have plans to kill you and take all the stuff you gathered.

That is not _griefing_, thats _playing the game_.

> Due to this my venture has no defensive capabilities.

The main defensive capabilities of the Venture are:

- warp core stabilization bonus, allowing you to warp away even when tackled by some modules
- good agility, allowing you to quickly get into warp
- low cost, allowing you to easily replace your loss if warping away in time did not work

Any ship out in space piloted by someone who is no friend, no corp member or other ally **is fair game**.

People will shoot your ship when given the chance, that is the game you play.

This is not ‘griefing’, it is how the game is played, just like someone is not ‘griefing’ you when they take pieces fairly during a game of Chess.

You’re out in space and could be mining the valuable ores someone else may have wanted to mine. And if you’re good you can get away with it alive too!

> [@N0MAD\_0](#):
>
> What am I supposed to do because I am solo player.

As a solo player who wishes to mine it is best if you join a group with other players.

Mining is far more efficient in a fleet. And if you find the right group the others can also teach you to stay alive better.

Join a group!

Yeah, the first losses you are rather helpless, that’s perfectly normal. That’s why the Venture is incredibly cheap.

Honestly: Buy the minerals and carry on building.

But for a nice trip: Try an event filament and avoid these gatecamps. Make sure to carry a second filament for highsec for your way home. Generally you should avoid crowded Lowsec or Nullsec, but there’s plenty of empty systems (look at the “Local” chat window to see actual numbers).

Happy venturing!

I’m not sure if he has the skills or the knowledge to begin scanning down wormholes or equip gass modules. It would also help to let him know which wormholes have the best gas.

The best advice for him is to join a large corp with willing teachers. I don’t think he’s ready for WH hunting.

</div>

You don’t have to do everything yourself in this game. Let other people mine the nullsec ore you need and still others transport it from nullsec to a safer place for you to purchase it. You can mine what you have access to without worrying about gatecamps to sell and buy what you do need.

You should also make friends with the galaxy map on your f10 key. If you want to take your setbacks as a challenge and get that ore yourself, go to statistics at the bottom and set it to things like ships destroyed in the last hour, average pilots in space for the past 30 minutes and jumps in the last hour will highlight the more active systems. Escape Pods destroyed in the last hour will alert you to gatecamps. If you want to find out if you can still get what you need elsewhere, head to the map and check out the diamond mining icon on the bottom and look for ore distribution. Find the ore you need on the right and check the map for it, maybe it appears in highsec anomalies somewhere. Being new and running off to mine in owned nullsec space isn’t the best way to approach your lack of specific resources problem, the fun part is you can find other ways to solve the problems you encounter.

All players start with the skills to probe down wormholes, Gas Cloud Harvesting only requires Industry 4. You can start training that today and be literally be huffing gas tomorrow.

Additionally, for this type of mining, what you get isn’t really that important. Most wormhole gas falls into a range around 50m isk/hr, plus or minus 5 mil isk/hr. There are some that are better if you find them, but for a new player there really isn’t much difference. You’re not mining the full hour, so your averages will even out over time.

[Here’s the reference](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ew-27FWLQZ8y5kudmpUbM9SAbZma2WmDuOVuAoO-XNM/edit?usp=sharing) I use when huffing gas, all credit to whoever made it because it wasn’t me.

This is really all that new players need. Whether those are found within large corps or not doesn’t matter, they could ask all their questions here and get the same information.

Everyone loses ships in eve. Trick is to earn more than you lose (and to join join the killing side…)

A venture is _very_ cheap they’re practically handed out for free (in fact, some of the career agent missions do exactly that), search what the current high value ores/gasses are and snipe only those, and you’ll quickly be earning 10+ ventures for every venture you lose.

First I am an alpha, I don’t omega unless they have a give-away.

I know mining is hard **at first** but I mined between 36 to 100 million ISK per hour when active. Market is in a winter slump now, I just got out of the hospital again, and that takes it a great deal out of making ISK by mining. However I make about 1 to 2 billion per month, depending on several factors.

- Do I have the time to play?
- Can I get my load to market safe?
- How lucky will I be finding something to mine?

I use to go through a lot of ventures and they are cheap disposable ships. The miasmos is your ore hauler. Set up operation will take time and not money. Here is what I do, step by step.

**What to Mine**
I started doing the high sec like everyone else but found it lacking in every aspect. Raw Kernite is an expensive ore because omegas buy it for a level 4 mission. This is where you make your first snowball to get it bigger. I started to mine kernite in low sec space. One load of kernite in a venture is 4166 rocks worth 800 each for 3.3 million ISK. You can buy a fitted venture for 450K so you can use this first load to buy 7 ships. Miasmos runs between 3 to 4 million. It will haul your loads to market. Use this time to train skills on mining and upgrades.

Once you get some ISK from mining kernite you will swap to gas mining, it will cost you about 50 million to train and buy scoops. I can only use 2 scoops tech 1 – no harvesters. There are some very pricey syndicate scoops at 150 million each, so don’t bother with those.

**Low Security Setup**
Find a dead end system or low traffic constellation to mine. No one will enter a cul-de-sac without purpose. I don’t bother with dscan, most gankers use ships that don’t even appear on it. I watch for new arrivals in local chat. I peek at their bio and if it looks like “DEATH to ALL MINERS” I hide in the dock, dump my load and return later. I have 2 other characters setup to mine elsewhere.

Each station I will have multiple ventures, gas scoops, EP-S Gaussian Scoped Mining Lasers, probes, and other basic mining equipment. At least one miasmos fitted with inertial dampers. I create safe spots to scan from, and I set my current station as my respawn point to save time. When my miasmos is full I take it to market using my route – never use autopilot or the default route – a miasmos can be holding 300 million or more in gas.

**Research**
I did a lot of Youtube tutorial research. Don’t buy into bullcrap about making 500 million ISK in wormholes. All sorts of nasties await you inside a wormhole. Gas sites in LS have none ( no NPCs ) only the players to worry about. Also the jerks who make the videos never take into account hauling the stuff back to dock.

I am now at the point, I will find a gas cloud and leave my venture sucking gas for 50 minutes while I do other more entertaining things. I set a cellphone alarm and return to a full venture or I am back in my pod in dock. One load more than pays for the 10 million ISK gas mining venture.

Have fun!

The ‘jerks’ know that you don’t haul after each mining trip and they are probably talking about Omega gameplay, not free-trial Alpha gameplay. So using better equipment, utilizing Boosts, Compression and an either temporary or more permanent Base right at the hole.

Not quite. If you break into a bank and steal a wheelbarrow full of pennies, you are not going to have as much to spend as the guy who pockets a stack of 50’s.

You left High Security space, invaded the adjacent Sovereign Territory and were stopped by people who’s resources you were going to steal. I would draw an analogy with the old west and horse rustlers, but ‘porch pirate’ is probably going to stick with the younger audience

By the numbers the game has 60 days to either get you interested or turn you away for life.

Finding a corporation, or rather a group of people who are interested in what you want to do and are willing to teach is a huge factor in surviving beyond 60 days. Do not feel obligated to stay if it turns out their recruiter lied, though also try not to corp-hop every few days as it makes the resume look really awful, while guild vault robbers are rare they do exist and nobody likes them.

Yes, I sell at Jita. At present, I am hoarding my ores since this is the winter slump. I will give a few visuals to illustrate this and the prime reason it happens.

 ![Lime](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/4/8/7/487a48b67e559320fd5db85ede032b9b083c85b9.png)

As you can tell these gas markets peak in the summer and drop in the winter. Winter months have more people playing, mining gas, and selling. The summer with fewer active players, gas is more rare and the prices climb as people who still play need their boosters. There are always other factors that influence the market.

Not when their video title states, _I made hundreds of millions of ISK per hour alpha mining_. So beware their click bait. These titles are BS, we all know the yield limitations. This is why I stated above; “I mined between 36 to 100 million ISK per hour when active.” That ore still needs to travel to market and be sold off.

I could pay 10% to a contract hauler, but where is the fun in doing that?

I always set up custom routes to Jita from where I farm. This means additional jumps added when avoiding choke points. Using the default “safe path” from the game auto-pathing system is no good either, suicide gankers will hunt on them. If I were to make an instructional video, I would record clips over a given 30 days and state, “I make ( this much ) ISK in 30 days” instead of distorting the truth. If your goal is to be ISK rich, you can make it by mining. I just don’t have much to spend it on in this game.

I still have gankers to contend with, just the places I pick are real rare for them to show up.

Most videos about “how I made unbelievable riches in EVE online” are clickbaits and don’t really work out in reality. At least not long-term reliable.

The main suggestion in this topic was to join a group to benefit from _cooperation_. Sure, with “fun” someone can justify really anything. Fun doesn’t need to be efficient. If you like the idea to travel 15-20 jumps trough some gank-avoiding route to Jita in a single T1 hauler with some gas and then travel back empty the same way - okay. You are free to do so.

The point isn’t that this type of “solo-gamplay” isn’t possible or isn’t enjoyable. Sure, for some people it may be. But it is absolutely not the way EVE is designed and when chosing this route, the player throws away a truckload of profits and fun (he just doesn’t know what he is missing). If one player plays EVE solo for two years and another joins a group and plays there for two years, after that period they are _worlds apart_ in skillpoints, knowledge, experience, softskills, relations, riches. By a mile.

Normally I sell off the hauler or leave it empty in Jita, then I fast travel back to my respawn point by using the self destruct option in the hangar. I might pick up an empty and place it at my next site I plan to farm.

I try to keep it to 12 or less jumps away from Jita. Although I did toy with a relay route where character A was farming 10 jumps from character B and they were only 7 jumps to Jita. In the end, Character B was more busy hauling than mining.

Designed? I thought it was a sandbox where we could do whatever we want. At least this is my point of view. I know many think it is a PvP only game, others claim it is a economy game, some have even say they want more PvE in this game. The OP (Nomad 0) seems to be of the opinion, it is a study of antisocial behavior in an online psychological experiment. It is all a matter of perspective. I continue to play for free while other players claim alpha is a trial. Come to think of it, I also did make a lot of my characters into **Defenders of Ascalon** when I played _Guild Wars_ and to this day I still have a perma-pre in there. Factions is still the best PvP anywhere to be found online. I hook up with my friends every weekend there for some Jade Quarry or Fort Aspenwood. Go turtles!!

Have fun!
