Hey all, been a bit since I posted on here, so apologies if the post looks all funky or something.

Anyway, I’ve been having this problem with Eve crashing when I alt tab. It’s made my game basically unplayable for any sort of non-HighSec content on the regular, because I can’t tab to check anything, or even post on Discord.

If you follow down the path of google with this, you find that it all started when they implemented a version of Windows that changed how the alt-tabbing worked. But, when you google, “Eve crashes when tabbing”, you don’t get any of those fixes, you just get the usual changing windowed mode, lowering graphics, etc. None of that works.

This is actually specifically a windows thing, not Eve. The only fixes I ever found from googling was to revert to a previous Win 11 version.

So, easy steps first:

Go to settings \> system \> display \> graphics. Turn off both “Optimizations for windowed games” and under the ‘advanced settings’ part, also make sure “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling” is turned off.

Those didn’t fix it for me, but they did make it a bit better, so do some testing before the next bit if you don’t want to go into the registry. The next thing you need to do is re-enable the Windows 10 alt-tabbing. I’m going to paste from google here:

> In **Windows 11 versions prior to 24H2** , you can revert to the classic Alt+Tab interface by editing the registry. Navigate to `HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer`, create a new **DWORD (32-bit) Value** named `AltTabSettings`, and set its value data to **1**. Restart **File Explorer** or your computer to apply the change.

Here’s the thing though. If you google that fix, it will tell you that it is no longer working to re-enable Win 10 alt tabbing. It completely stops any sort of advanced alt tabbing. You just cycle through them in order like the old days.

It’s slightly annoying, and it does mean I have to manage my windows I’ve got going in the background. But.. I went from being unable to alt-tab 10 times in a row without the game crashing, to literally sitting there and just tabbing as fast as I could with a youtube video and discord open, with no crash.

I’ll take it. Hopefully it helps you too if you’ve been struggling with this.

Fly safe o/

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention: Turning the registry value to 0 enables normal tabbing if you want it.
