Wrong, the update program checks the client version not the launcher. No one here seems to know what this launcher really is doing? Interesting, well I am going to tell you exactly what your “EVE Online Launcher” is made out of… It is a Chromium browser. CCP pulled out all the stops when they downloaded Chromium Open Source and used it to make this launcher. Assuming you have nothing against Google Chrome, you are launching a browser based on that source code. Browsers can launch other apps but they sure don’t do anything more than expected than any other network browser. Need some proof eh? I ran Eve on my Windows 10 test box and here you can see Vivaldi ( another Chrome based browser ) running with EVE Launch obviously also a Chrome based browser. ![taskman](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/4X/1/3/5/13551558808680efd6f5609ba6aa90ffd4d3531b.png) So I put the question to you to ponder for yourself; # Q: Why does anyone need a second web browser just to launch this game? ## A: You don’t, it can and should be launched from either the desktop or your current browser. It was, yes. Didn’t even have an option to exit to character select. Well, you supposedly did, but it only worked for about a year total. If you wanted to switch to an alt on the same account, log out and log back in. Imagine whining about a launcher like it’s an inconvenience. ---

I think some of these people (ie: Vokan and John) don’t actually have meaningful experience in software development. ---

If all the complainers were such great coders, why aren’t they working at CCP and fixing everything? I wouldn’t tell my mechanic how to change the clutch on my car, even though the only reason I pay him to do it is because I’ve changed enough of them in my life already. ---

Pretty cool and useful concept [What is orchestration?](https://www.redhat.com/en/topics/automation/what-is-orchestration) Edit: Ok… The link is showcasing orchestration on an enterprise scale between multiple servers, but it can be effectively scaled down to managing several applications, services or even a single workflow. ---

What is it about the UI of EVE that you think makes it so special compared to any other application?!? Take the notifications in the bottom right. It is a list of check boxes. That happens all the time with applications. CCP adds something new to the list, like Insurgencies. Do they test that the settings save properly? Apparently not. Think of all those mobile apps that have notification settings to receive it or not, to store a simple boolean. How can they get that wrong and not do some basic testing?! Most of the things they break, _were **working** before they touched_ them for some aesthetic reason that is also horrible, e.g. the new Ship Info window. They could roll the feature back until they do it properly … instead they push it out half baked and not thoroughly tested. They are building up code debt and player friction. I am thoroughly convinced that the UI has been given to someone’s nephew and the launcher is being done by someone looking busy to keep their job. ---

Oh wait. Are these the EVE Online forums? Darn, I thought it was the forums for the anime Time of Eve … gee … how did I get so lost. Amazing dodge though. Any angsty teen would be proud of it and think they have a future in politics. 🤪 EVE’s UI is like any other UI: - Progress bars. - Context menus. - Buttons. - Sliders. - Data sheets. - Check boxes. Their appearance does not change that they have the same **basic** functions found in all applications. ---

“These tires are terrible.” “Do you know any other car brand that is anything like this one? I sure can’t think of one.” Do you ever read what you have written before posting it? It doesn’t matter how good the car is if a tire is going to blow and send you into a tree. It doesn’t matter how great the lighting is or the station’s appearance is if it stops the HUD loading and my ship gets blown up whilst I can’t do anything. ---
