Well, @Your_Ex-Girlfriend accused me of being risk adverse so I looked up her killboard and went to the last place she got explosionated. That was all the thought I put into this trip.

I should have brought my Proteus out here. I could shoot rats for a while.

Last one- I couldn’t leave without taking a shot of the most famous ore of all!

I made it back unscathed. Maybe you can help me understand something that happened along the way… I don’t have the experience to know what it was.

I jumped into a system and selected the next gate. I aligned to it and saw a large reddish orange bubble looming in front of me. I didn’t have a chance to screenshot it since I was already warping ahead and I passed through it without incident.

Did I just get insanely lucky or was that not a warp interdiction bubble? I was NOT going to stop and ask the locals.

Oh, nice, you went there as a tourist.

I lived there. Was one of two people who probed every moon in that constellation when we moved in. Had a 9 alt mining fleet out here complete with Orca.

Other than demonstrating a childish idiocy, what was this supposed to accomplish?

Absolutely nothing. That was the point. Going to null is no big deal. Anyone can board a low cost ship and fly through nullsec. I flew all the way into your territory, warped around, took screenshots, ejected my ship’s biowaste, and made it all the way back home.

Your tale- your delusions of grandeur- A tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

That’s a fresh bubble!

When they first pop up they are orange, once they settle they become the more common blue colour.

Sounds like someone might have tried to catch your ship by launching one as you jumped into system, but you bypassed it. Either you landed on a part of the gate too far away from the interdictor to be caught in the bubble, or you gave the warp command before it went up.

You can warp through a bubble so long as you’re not actually inside of it.

If the **end-point** of your warp is…
A. Aligned with a bubble AND…
B. within 500km of the bubble’s location

You will be pulled into the bubble.

The bubble also needs to be there _ **before** _ you initiate warp. An interdictor bubble won’t work if you’re already in warp, even if all other criteria are met.

Piloting an Orca to provide those fleet buffs without the added income of the Hulk after I paid 3 billion ISK would be a nightmare. No ship in my fleet should profit from my 3 billion ISK investment if I’m not profiting too.

You seem, throughout the entirety of the thread, to be a bit hung up on the amount of isk you have “invested” into your mining operation, but you’re not really accounting for it correctly. It’s not a boat or a used car - you can pretty trivially convert it back into ISK without any significant loss in value.

That aside, what would you estimate your _realized_ isk/hr is with this setup?

My ISK per hour isn’t notable at all unless I’m moon mining. I make nothing when mining HS ore and I consume more Water than I gain ice mining. Moon mining is the only one that pays though I can’t really say what the ISK per hour is. I keep getting interrupted by real life. I can’t just keep mining when I’m home. It’s why I can’t really do planned mining operations in an established fleet. I’ll mine for a bit, dock up, go afk, come back, mine for a bit, dock up, go afk….

I made almost half a bil over this last weekend with plenty of unmined moon ore going to waste after it expired. If I’d mined it all, I’m sure I would have come close to or even reached one billion ISK.

I think (know) you could probably take what you’ve invested in your mining setup, do something else with it, and earn significantly more ISK with less time spent.

If you’re just _really_ into mining and are indifferent to the income, that’s entirely cool and you should go ahead and do it. BUT… there are several options available, even in highsec, that would easily clear what you’re earning right now both in terms of ISK invested into the setup, and time spent doing it.

Also, some notes about this:

> [@Glenduil](#):
>
> I’ve lived in Null Sec before. It was dreadfully boring. Day after day after day of nothing to do all because my corp mates weren’t on when I was.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but my assumption is that your time spent living in null was when you were in Absolute Will. Absolute Will (and its sister orgs) is a bottom-rung alliance that exists purely to exploit new players. Most players would not regard it as a “real” alliance in any way. I am not overly fond of the large nullsec alliance life, either, but I would absolutely disregard anything you think you know about it if your only experience is with ABSOW.

> [@Glenduil](#):
>
> High Sec is freedom. I can do what I want, where I want, when I want. I make enough ISK to fund my hobbies. My skills are high and I own every structure I need and every ship I want.
>
> What would null sec offer that I don’t already have?

What null (or WHs, or low sec, or even Highsec-things-other-than-unscaled-mining-operations) offer is more ISK in less time so you can spend more time (and ISK) on your hobbies instead of endlessly tedious farming.

These are my thoughts on other sources of income:

Perhaps in exploration. I haven’t tried that yet. Shipbuilding either. I don’t have the skills yet to get any money out of that. I will in time. I’ll get there.

Security missions? Nah. Level 4 missions don’t pay that much without level 5 salvage. Mine is still at level 4. I ran Abyss for a bit. I’m not ready to spend the huge amount of ISK for the fit needed for tier 6 and up. Don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose and that would be a huge loss.

So in High Sec, as far as I’ve gotten so far is lvl 4 security missions with sub par salvage, Tier 4 Abyss in a Gila, and moon mining. Moon mining pays the most, but it requires a lot of time. I wouldn’t mind swapping, but I need some real numbers and details before I do. I’ve heard claims like yours before and they all fall silent once it’s time for details and real numbers. I still haven’t seen any.

That’s why I moon mine. It’s the only proven activity with a real payout. I stopped at the Abyss once I did some T4s and my loot was pretty bad. According to my research, the next step up was a 5 bil ISK fit to go higher- not doing that until I know that the money’s worth it.

Why do you think I mine? Granted, I like mining, but I honestly do it because the investment is low compared to the payout. CCP has nerfed every other activity and over-inflated costs for the set-up (like the fits for Abyss ships) I remember when everyone couldn’t wait to get to level 4 missions. Now, they’re just not even worth it.

And no- I was in High Sec when I was in Absolute Will. It was war after war after war after war. People launched constant campaigns against the alliance. It was nonstop. It was like being in Null Sec because we were always War Deced. I left because I finally researched why and found out why they were so hated. It’s one of many reasons I’m in my own corporation. I’m my own boss now.

My Null Sec experience was when I barely knew the game. A small corp and I only had one ship and no direction or assistance. I knew enough to know that getting your only ship blapped meant flying around in a POD which isn’t fun. I left when I could take the boredom no longer. Quit Eve soon after that. Frankly, I just don’t care to go through the grueling application process to go back to Null Sec. Again- High Sec is freedom.

Final thoughts: I have what I need right now. I’ve settled in and I do what I do. Claims about the lost city of Atlantis sound great, but if there’s no details or proof, I’m not going to hunt for it. Yes, I’m sure that if I spend the ISK for the T6 Abyss, train Salvage skills to V, and do anything else I’ll need, I can make massive money for as long as my ethernet connection holds out and that ship goes boom. I’m sure I can go to Null and spend a couple of months proving to someone that I’m not a spy and make massive money until I get ejected for having a chaotic RL schedule.

But why? I have the money I need in this game with what I currently do. I could PvP miners, but honestly, I would get no enjoyment out of blapping them. It’s just not a fun activity. No passion.

Final edit: I have amazing skills in engineering, shields, armor, mining (not processing), and gunnery. I am skilled up to a Rorquall and a Marauder and I can fit and fly them both.

I’m just as good in a combat ship as I am in a mining barge.

What gave you the impression you need level V salvage for L4 missions? A Noctis with the base skills required to fly one is fine (but you’ll want higher skill in ORE Hauler for the tractor range). You can salvage in your orca if you want, just fit tractors and use salvage drones.

Salvaging mission rats isn’t very profitable anyway. The profit in L4s comes from burner missions and LP. For example SoE LP is very valuable right now, and is going to stay so for a while, because of the new battlecruiser. Burners requires decent Assault Frigate skills, either Enyo and I think Wolf, or just Nergal. Worm and Garmur can do many of them also.

Exploration can be alright, but mainly in null. Huffing may be of interest to you, though.

Wouldn’t really recommend production **at all** unless you have access to nullsec bonused structures. Also wouldn’t recommend ships, specifically; rigs and modules tend to be better. Margins are thin, and many highsec producers delude themselves into thinking they’re making a profit through a “Minerals I mine Myself are free” mentality.

> [@Glenduil](#):
>
> Security missions? Nah. Level 4 missions don’t pay that much without level 5 salvage.

Level 4 missions, run efficiently with a single character, will more than double what you are currently bringing in with two characters. I would not consider salvaging to be part of an efficient mission running loop at all.

I haven’t done abyssals since, IDK, ~2019? But I am reasonably confident I could clear your mining income (again, 1 char Vs 2) running tier 4s.

That. There are only a few reasons to actually loot or salvage L4 missions.

- doing it for the fun, not caring about efficiency
- doing it for some “not leaving anything behind” roleplay
- being a total newbro who can loot/salvage the missions of another player (corpmate, friend…) that doesn’t use them. A very cheap destroyer with minimum skills can do it and that pays better than most other stuff such a young player can do

@topic
There is no “Problem with the Orca”. The “Problem” is with the mining boost in itself. It is _too high_. It basically results in a Mining Command Ship being already “best choice” as _second ship_ in the fleet because with max skills your mining amount is almost doubled PLUS you get the convenience of more storage space and compression - which saves you a lot of hauling runs. So the combination of even one Miner + Booster Alt is already better than two miners.
And that shouldn’t be the case. Mining Boost should be balanced in a way that a Commandship is the right choice after having around 5 people in fleet already. So adding a Porpoise or Orca is better than adding a 5th miner.

Also implementing “shipboard compression” was a huge mistake, another active gameplay option sacrificed for “more convenience”. Compression should only work “onboard” the Command Ship, like a mobile factory. So other players had to jettison their ore or manually put it into the Command Ship’s Fleet hangar. And the Command Ship Pilot then does the compression, also manually. Which should require a bit of time, not being instant. That would give the command ship pilot actually a true “mining director” role in the fleet, collecting the ore, compressing it and then splitting the profits afterwards among all participants. Not like now, a simple altchar-booster.
