It happens to ccp themselves. So if they are ok with it happening to them what do you think?

Yes it often happens that the more salt the streamer gives the more they want to disrupt them.

We have helped some streamers in the past but some feel that our standing with the gankers will make them try harderif they know we are involved, which is probably true.

Still, we are happy to help if people want protection and cover.

Im sure it contributes but in a small way, but lots of small ways add up to a lot

Streaming isn’t about advertising a product, it’s about entertaining the viewers, and that gank was probably the most entertaining thing that ever happened to this guys stream.

Also, dunking a miner and then sit back and watch the chaos and panic on tv 5min later is probably the most hilarious thing I ever.

Hmm, what about a streamer who is spying on an opponent group and gives free intel to his buddies ? Immunity ?! Waddyamean, there’s streamers and then there’s streamers ?

Too many levels of dumb, entitlement and kettle banging in one thread.

That would make watching a stream an exploit. Highly doubtful that this would be in the interest of CCP. 😂

What is slowly killing EVE are people like these streamers that portrait EVE in the wrong light and nurture wrong expectations. Just look at this topic. There are people who expect full immunity for a streamer, who does nothing to improve the gameplay experience, from people who use core gameplay features against the streamer. That’s delusional.

Repeated gank stalking can go too far, sure, but this streamer did nothing to protect himself against ganking. He did nothing to involve his community in the stream and the game to provide actual benefits for EVE. All he did was sit there, mine something, and get money from its viewers (directly or indirectly). He did nothing to hinder, make harder or prevent the gank attempts. That is not helping to stop the population decline of EVE.

Guess you don’t realize that CCP actually want’s players to find and attack them, that’s why they show their location in-game. In fact, they even give prior notice about it on twitter and facebook…

Emphasis on smart 😃

Exactly. A good streamer would recognize the opportunity to have extremely entertaining 100% authentic EVE content delivered on a silver plate, and actually exploit that for entertainment.

I disagree. Don’t know why you all are fixated on this immunity thing, I definitely didn’t say anything about that.

What’s delusional is you saying they’re using core gameplay features to find the streamer. Sorry but imo it’s an exploit, especially since they’re using an out-of-game resource to locate the player in-game. It’s also grief play since their only intention is to disrupt the stream gameplay so they can troll him about it afterwards.

I said that people in this topic demand that, not you.

I did not say this at all. I said these gankers use core gameplay features against the streamer. PVP is a core gameplay feature. However: Checking external tools for intel is also a very fundamental part of EVE’s gameplay. If it wasn’t, Dotlan, Killboards, W-trackers, Market tracker websites and many more external thirt party tools would be illegal.

> [@DeMichael\_Crimson](#):

Luckily, you can defend yourself against this grief play with a bit of preparation. Involve your community in the game to provide support, and the gankers will have a much harder time to grief you/PVP you/gank you. The streamer community can even do that with free Alpha accounts and the streamer can use the 1M SP referal thingy to boost their training. _That_ would actually help improve EVE’s population figures. Their streams on their own are not doing that at all – worse, they nurture people like this topic’s OP.

Those out-of-game apps don’t tell the location of players in-game.

Killboards in particular give a close enough approximation to find people. They provide the same level of location ambiguity that a stream provides, which has system info, overview name column, HUD activity text and local chat greyed out. These are all things professional streamers do in EVE. If this streamer didn’t, it’s his own fault and it’s akin to talking to people in local about what you do or sending them notifications by accident that they added you as contact.

Obfuscating your location in EVE is easy enough to make it harder to find you.

Killboards only give a location after the fact, not in advance.

Doesn’t matter what type of spin you put on it or how much you try to rationalize and justify their gank, imo it’s just grief play.

Anyway, this is now a dead horse topic, have fun and good night…

That is wrong. They give you information about where, when and in what ships a certain person is most active. Based on that information, you can go to this area and look around to find the person relatively easily.

> [@DeMichael\_Crimson](#):

It definitely is a dead horse by now because it is ludicrous to declare “watching a stream to find a person to gank them” as exploit. Just like it ludicrous to expect streamers to be exempt from consequences of their actions or lack there-of, or that they should be immune to PVP, like this topic’s OP demands it.

Maybe they used a locator agent to find the steamer, which is an in game feature.

You see the problem is that the steamer craves attention, but when the attention comes in the form of a fleet of Cats they suddenly don’t want any more attention.

I just think it’s hilarious and unenforceable on top of it. My alliance watched the last INIT, Brave and XIX SOTAs via spy streams. Would this be an exploit, too? After all, we use an external third party tool against the streamer’s will to glean information from them that they would not have given us otherwise. Same principle as gankers using the miner’s stream to gather where the streamer is mining. Such a ruling would be hilarious and damage EVE more than it would help it. 🙂

This game gives player full freedom, so they can do almost everything. This means they can be dishonorable and they mostly are.
What it says about warrior attacking weaker player with questionable source of information? He is cowardly and dishonorable. Honorable warrior would attack only someone with matching strength (or even stronger), but this is not EVE way.

I personally like to play games immersive. All intelligence should come from the game world itself. Using intel from outside world (like real world) is more like cheating. Not using outside information is just on player honor (not game character). This is obviously something, what can not be expected, so streamer have to live with that.

What CCP could do is, if someone makes stream sniping abuse public, they could flag him as outlaw and every NPC in game would attack him on sight (for a month or so). Eventually list the reward on his/her head 😉
