How would it work? They use one server/solar system and speed up sp gains by 10x? Seems like a cool idea tbh if you could stop it from becoming a server tick smart bomb fest. Maybe you drop all your isk in the wreck too lol

Or, whats far more likely is, people just won’t use it

Its not going to seem viable because its not going to be EVE, its not the same game without players to interact with, cool you’re playing hardcore mode, but if you’re the only person there you only have to avoid dying to trigs lol

Why not just convert this server to hardcore mode? That would avoid splitting the two servers and we’d have just as many players to work with, because everyone who keeps playing will get a star next to their name.

I mean if you want to kill the game then sure, because people aren’t going to want to deal with permadeath in EVE, its already hardcore enough with ship loss being permanent, good luck convincing anyone to hang around lol

Can’t get behind this for a couple of reasons. But first, I’m using “hardcore” to refer to a permadeath rule set.

Smaller player base - I don’t think there’s enough interest for this idea to make the investment in time and resources worth doing. The other game has an existing player base already already doing their own hardcore challenges - whether on live or private servers. EvE simply doesn’t have the numbers to pull this off.

Multiple servers in general - one of EvE’s strong points is the shared universe everyone plays in. Further shards would just dilute the existing player base, and any uptick in new curious players would quickly diminish as the novelty wore off. Permadeath doesn’t really lend towards longevity in playstyle.

Lore - The explanation for Pod pilots in EvE is for why we can respawn. But pod pilots are EXPENSIVE - More expensive than crews. Why would any faction invest in a pod pilot if there’s no real return on investment.

Can already simulate this without a special realm - Players can just do this themselves. Form a corp with a player enforced hardcore rule set and prove that there’s enough interest in this rather than just being a fad.

It’s really a PVE challenge - Hardcore is really a PVE challenge in other games. PVP hardcore is just plain masochistic…

–Gadget doesn’t think the concept would work in EvE

Make all of N.E Nullsec and get rid of CONCORD, that should be hardcore enough.

> I’m operating on the assumption that perma-death in a hardcore mode in EVE would entail pod loss, and not ship loss. To that extent, gankers are at a massive disadvantage in this regard, as they can easily and predictably be bombed out of existence during a gank, but losing a pod in high-sec after a conventional loss requires the player to be quite ineffectual at the game. Or AFK. And if you’re using auto-pilot in a hardcore mode, you kind of deserve what’s coming to you.

That would be too easy though, perma death should mean the loss of Everything, not just the pod.

No alts, no “bank”, 1 character per account, you lose it all.

No starter systems, make it a completely random spawn, HS, LS, NS ,WH, that way no camping the undock or gate camping the systems.

It would be interesting, not something I would play but NMS has a perma death mode which is popular.

Some are going to try and game the system, of course there will be some, but that would be down to CCP to have some checks in place.

There you go, a non pvp’er supporting it, or the concept at least, doesn’t that just get your goat lol?

If your character dies, you shouldn’t even be allowed to make another one.

So you want to cancel your capsuleer contract and become a baseliner again? One pop and your done?

I am not sure if my old baseliner brain would be able to train all those skills 🤔 Maybe with an aid of those expert systems it could be possible but at what cost?

NO. simple. NO.

EVE is both hard and not. There is no room for a hardcore or pve only server. It defeats the point.
EVE is not for the weak, nor is it for some nutter brutalist bitter vets who want to go back to clone death sp loss.

EVE already has hardcore areas like Poch and WH space. If you find things too easy I say go live there.
Likewise, it already has near perfectly safe areas where basic common sense will protect you in the form of high sec.

any compromise to this format will lead to the death of the game. Simple. If we give people PVE servers no one will be around to do indy and make stuff on TQ.
Like wise if we go full hardcore no one will find the game accessible. these constant moronic requests are getting a bit much

“No one”? That’s quite a stretch, especially for a novelty feature created for the couple of thousand players and streamers who’d be interested in something like this.

I’d be much more afraid about what the sudden emergence of a genre competitor could do to the long-term viability of EVE, than the creation of a hardcore mode for the game that’s more likely to _boost_ the main server population (just like the existence of hardcore modes in games like WoW does for _their_ primary populations).

I’d rather have a server that mirrors New Eden but is set on the other side of Eve Gate. Once the Earth side of the Eve Gate had been colonized, the portal between both servers would open and players from both sides would be able to interact.

I disagree. Because you are trying to implement a trend in EVE without explaining why, other than “its a trend in other video games”. But this sort of thinking is what lead to CCP implementing skinning in the worst possible way for EVE online. Because they just copied it from other games. Also EVE online has lootboxes which really, really, really doesent work. So stop trying to copy trends from other games, unless you can be absolutely sure they will work for EVE. And in this case, i dont think so.

More on the skinning part, so in CS:GO the skin stays on your weapon even if you die and lose it. This makes no sense in EVE, the skin should be applied like a fitting, and should be reapplied when you lose it, and it should cost ISK or even PLEX. And can only reapply or change “skin” in station or similar. But thats not the path they chose, they chose to copy CS:GO 100% which makes no sense because its a completely different type of game and players only have a few seconds each round to buy a new weapon- it would not work if they had to reapply skins every time.

So tl;dr dont copy trends from other games willy nilly you could be doing more harm than good

Because I want to play it. And because there are others who want to play it, judging by the prevalence of the hardcore mode in the MMO market.

It makes plenty of sense. What you’re paying for is the license to display proprietary artwork on the hull of your ship, and not for a physical paint job.
