This is my shield tanked fit. I’ve had fun learning about how defense works in this game while shooting rocks with lasers. Now that my mining days are winding to a close, I decided it was time to share it. I know I went overboard, but it was a fun learning experience.

@Glenduil Thank you for sharing. That should be useful to my mining alt.

Why are your mining days winding to a close?

I’m finally up to the point where I’m training weapon skills so I’m doing combat missions now. Mixing it up.

@Glenduil That’s great but you’re a miner _and_ a combat clone on the same character?

I decided to divide my three characters into Combat ( PvP/PvE/Missions), Mining ( P.I/Mining ) and Scout/Exploration so that I could have the training skills specialized and focused so I don’t waste time. Don’t know if that’s a great idea but I’m sticking to it.

Why not? An Exhumer shield tanks, requires armor skills, uses drones, and mines. A combat ship uses a lot of those same skills. So I don’t need deep core skills on a combat ship, but I use most of the other ones.

Do you realize how easy it was to fit a battle cruiser after fitting a Skiff with that shield tank? Sure, my Navy Issue Brutix uses a passive armor tank, but it was still really easy and most of the tank modules I put on it are TII. The only thing I needed for a combat ship was weapon skills. Guns instead of strip miners.

Not really, lol.
I’ve been following the advice I get on YouTube, Google and this forum since I began playing and trying to make sense of everything as best I can.
It made sense to me to separate the careers into the three clones and didn’t realize one could also do it your way.
Live and learn, eh?

@Glenduil I’m fairly young but I’ve noticed something in my short life that’s very consistent: it’s never hard at all to find someone who criticizes you. it’s rather hard to find someone who supports you and it’s definitely harder to find someone who helps you.
I agree with you, some people do take video games way too seriously and have egos as big as Mount Rushmore.

faction MSH have same PG as meta ones.
However they are priced 200M, which is almost as much as the skiff.
Basically doubling the price of the ship, and certainly multiplying the value to kill it.
Your total fit is valued 816M to purchase at Jita, among them 300M are from ship and rig so non droppable. This means 500M in loot value. for 160k EHP.

Now if I go with T2 hardeners and RF extenders instead, I have 447M quote, so 150M droppable, for 155k ehp, Meaning, you divide your value by 3 while losing only 5k ehp.

Now you can even go with T2 power diags, for 154k EHP, 400M total value so 100M droppable
You need the faction extenders to have enough PG though - or maybe meta are good enough ? test it.

Also, I used the correct lasers to mine. You were using mercoxit ones.

If you use the expensive Multispecs, you should just go all in and get faction shield extenders. The 60M more or less won’t hurt. 😃

No I wasn’t. I was using these:
An advanced custom-cut frequency crystal whose refractive qualities are specifically suited to boosting yield when mining Simple Ores such as **Plagioclase, Pyroxeres, Scordite, Veldspar and Mordunium.**

They’re still in my fit and my ship’s inventory. Are you sure you read this correctly? Mercoxit was mentioned nowhere in that description. I know what Mercoxit is. I don’t even have the skills required to equip those crystals. In other words- **I absolutely could not have been using those crystals.**

Also, while your fit makes sense, I tried combinations like that, but it went over my power budget. I mean… I can use that fit now, but only because I had gotten my skills up there. All that training finished today.

So to recap- At the time of this fit, my power grid was maxed and I was not using Mercoxit crystals.

But thank you for the advice. I’ll keep all that in mind about fitting now that I have more power to work with and also I’ll never use Mercoxit crystals for simple mining if the day ever comes when I train the skills to equip them.

Yours have lower yield but can use merco lens. They are only better when you mine mercoxit.

Nice to hear you had fun fitting your ship!

Some fitting tips:

Faction Multispectrum Hardeners are used by a wide range of ships including capital ships and therefore are overpriced for something as a Skiff.

Next, if you’re going to use faction modules on your ship, the first thing to do is to upgrade your meta modules like those shield extenders.

Now by downgrading the hardeners and upgrading the extenders you can lose the majority of the ridiculously price of your Skiff fit for a fraction less EHP:

> [Skiff, South Wind Improved]
>
> Caldari Navy Power Diagnostic System
> Damage Control II
> Caldari Navy Power Diagnostic System
>
> Multispectrum Shield Hardener II
> Republic Fleet Large Shield Extender
> Republic Fleet Large Shield Extender
> Multispectrum Shield Hardener II
>
> Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner II
> Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner II
>
> Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
> Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
>
> Hammerhead II x5
> Mining Drone II x5

Here’s the same fit, only slightly less EHP (151k instead of 154k) for half the ISK (400 million instead of 800 million).

Personally I rarely use modules above T2, but if you do, try to be consistent with your price choices and don’t mix cheap affordable meta modules with capital-priced modules.

Sometimes that option is necessary in order to complete or make a fit work.

Anyway, I never really look at ISK value of items that might drop if destroyed. Most of my ships are fit with blue and green mods to get max stats when possible…

Course I do have some basic T2 fits that I still use every once in a while along with some ships mixed with T2 and Faction / Deadspace mods… 😉

That’s true, faction hardeners do save you some CPU compared to T2.

However, when I copied that fit into Pyfa I saw there was more than enough CPU left even after switching to T2 with bad skills, as the fit was tight on PG, not CPU.

> [@DeMichael\_Crimson](#):
>
> Anyway, I never really look at ISK value of items that might drop if destroyed. Most of my ships are fit with blue and green mods to get max stats when possible…

That’s not the most efficient way to look at fitting if you’re in a part of space where your ship gets destroyed every so often.

Ship modules in EVE go from from the scale of thousands of ISK to billions of ISK. It just isn’t efficient to fly a ship with a few modules worth thousands while you’re spending billions on other parts of your ship. Generally you want every upgrade (rig tier, extenders, hardeners) to be of a similar performance per ISK, because if you’re overspending on one and underspending on another you will have less EHP per ISK in the long run if you lose multiple ships with that fit.

That’s why saving money on cheap meta modules on a Skiff worth 800 million ISK is sub-optimal. Faction extenders also are easier to fit than T2, the Caldari extender and Minmatar extender each have their own CPU or PG savings, so there’s no reason to skip out on them, especially when it’s not a tight fit. And if it is a tight fit, for a ship worth 800M ISK you surely can afford a cheap fitting implant.
