Perhaps the Kyonoke Outbreak is due to the Jovian disease evolving into something new.

Have any attempts been made to use the Kyonoke on Drifter ships and Pilots to eliminate them as a threat?

What happens when a Rogue Drone is controlled and sent into the contaminated mine? What about a captured Sleeper or a ship fit with Sleeper components that would not be affected like the Rogue Drones organic systems might be?
