I noticed for a while that some small drones will scan my ship as soon I entered the station. I’m curious about those, can someone tell me more about this little dudes? What they are seeking, why they scan my ship each time? ---

They are scanning for and removing any space-oliphaunts that may be hidden on your ship’s exterior. The drones must be doing a good job, I’ve never seen any! ---

immersion wise - I like to think of them as maintenance drones, scanning your ship for any damage after you dock. Kind of like the attendants that used to run around checking your tire pressure and cleaning your windshield etc when you gassed up your car. ---

They are looking for your personal data so they can get maximum value for the ads they inevitably will display in stations. But also their purpose is to increase the loading time when you dock. The fancier the station interior the longer it takes to load. Am i doing it right? ---

Customs and tax inspectors. Making sure you pay the proper amount. Do you have anything to declare? Kidding aside, it’s just a little visual element CCP added recently to provide some extra graphical distraction when docked. As Dyver said, I think they showed up around the same time as the new ship “first time cinematic” and “Show Info” screens appeared. CCP loves them some bells and whistles. Lore-wise, one could assume that any ship entering a facility would be scanned for various reasons. Repairs, legal purposes, ship and pilot ID, threat assessment, etc. ---
