Well said. I agree.

I think some of the ppl who post have a VERY thin skin compared to the poo they spew. I also think the ISD do a good job of moderation. That some of you are still here proves it. None (well most) of us are faultless…

I wasn’t apologising for anyone.

I’m not a mod, I have never been a mod and I have no wish to be one (_I have, for the record volunteered, for the STAR team but as yet I have yet to hear from them_) I’m just someone who is lacking in a degree of patience for, the frequently toxic people who attack volunteer moderators.

I don’t think I’ll be apologising for that either.

Just like the rest of us, the ISD has to take on the chin sometimes. Their not perfect and nether am I. I dont think you would have cared for the smack talk in Amarr way back when where you could taunt someone into making a mistake outta rage. Same as the forums…

No, it’s not a hard job, it’s a time consuming job.

CCP set the [Forum Rules](https://community.eveonline.com/support/policies/forum-moderation-policy-en/) which states:.

> To maintain order and a sense of community, all users should read and follow this policy. **By using the EVE Online forums and participating in discussion there, users are affirming their willingness to comply with these terms.**

> # **Terms of Service**
>
> We would like to direct your attention to the Website Terms of Use Agreement, particularly Section 6, which deals directly with the Forums.
>
> - 6.1 tells you what you can and cannot do on the forums.
> - 6.2 tells you what the moderators can do to regulate the forums.
> - 6.3 tells you what procedures may be put in place by CCP.

> Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be.

CCP appointed ISD to moderate and enforce all the rules both equally and fairly among all forum posters. That doesn’t give them the right to pick and choose which rules to enforce or when to enforce them.

Doing that is selective moderation. The fact that it’s being done directly contradicts and violates the policy and procedures that CCP set for these Forums. That type of moderation is an abuse of the position and exposes them as being biased and prejudiced.

> [@Mu\_ad\_Diib](#):
>
> Lastly, if you really feel strongly that the moderation needs better quality moderators, you ( _as in the collective ‘you’_ ) might like to consider stepping up to the plate and volunteering to be a mod yourself.

No, the role of Forum Moderator should be done by CCP Employees, not by player volunteers. Players who volunteer to act as Forum Moderator all have an ulterior motive, either good or bad, for doing that job.

CCP clearly states the procedure for ensuring ISD Moderators correctly perform their position in the [Forum Rules](https://community.eveonline.com/support/policies/forum-moderation-policy-en/):

> # **Complaints**
>
> If any pilot has an issue or complaint regarding the conduct of our forum moderators, the EVE Universe Community Team can be reached by contacting [communityteam@ccpgames.com](mailto:communityteam@ccpgames.com) from the verified email address connected to their EVE Online account(s).

The ISDs always have been player volunteers.
You are veering into the tinfoil category here.

I’m talking about the role of Forum Moderators which was done by CCP Employees for a long time before they appointed only ISD members to that position.

How far back was it when ISDs wasn’t a thing?

I started playing in 2012 and, if I remember correctly, ISDs was a thing back then. Also don’t think there is any upside to having CCP employees mod. CCP staff can be as biased as anyone. They’re not mindless robots.

If we want strict mods, then what needs to be done are improvements to the rule set and consistent modding. If we want lenient mods, then the ISDs needs to modify the rules to convey that and communicate it to the forum.

Whether it’s a CCP employee or volunteer who enforce that rule set, isn’t of importance.

Would you rather have some volunteer cooking your meal or a paid chef that has some training in how to prepare food?

CCP staff hired for a moderating position have the skills to do it correctly. And as for bias, it will not be so blatant since their job is on the line. Volunteers don’t really lose anything if they get the boot from the ISD.

I don’t mind volunteer food. An egg is an egg, whether it was fried by a pro or not.

What matters is the environment built around the cook (how badly does the kitchen allow the cook to ■■■■ up), which is why I think it’s better to modify the rules to properly convey what forum style they want (strict or not) and then enforce it consistently. Whether it’s a CCP employee or not doesn’t matter. It’s just a waste of money that could be spent on a dev who could improve the game.

How did I know you were going to say that?

If you are fine with a guy cooking your egg that hasn’t washed his hands in a week. Has a cigarette hanging out of his mouth while cooking it in a filthy pan. Doesn’t care that he is serving shell and bloodspots along with the egg, and hasn’t got a clue that the raw chicken he left dripping on it overnight will probably be the reason you end up in the hospital, then by all means enjoy your meal.

Just to shut this forum down and let the community create their own means of communication with their own mods.

Now we’re on the same page.

CCP doesn’t give a ■■■■ about the forums. So it ends up being a bad environment.

We were on the same page in my initial post. Not sure why I had to repost that sentence.

But yeah, CCP doesn’t really care much for the forums, cause it doesn’t add much value. We agree there. Which is also why my opinion is to just leave the forum as a playground with low moderation.

I’m sure the ISDs are going to appreciate such a comparison, lmao.
