Well…that’s exactly what happened with me. I was getting bored of mining and ratting, then I got ganked while ratting. I’d have left out of boredom…but the desire for revenge spurred me on.

Indeed…not long after being ganked I fell for a baiting trap outside a station. This was just weeks into joining EVE. I thought the baiting Nereus would be easy to beat…but he was using a classic baiting fit. After my ship loss, the baiter said I put up a good fight and offered to replace my ship. I also got to see his ship fitting…modules I’d never heard of. All very useful.

And I’ve plenty of screen shots of your appalling language also, not edited either which have also been reported to CCP but I’ll not post them here nor will I start a griefer website.

Such conduct does not encourage players to continue the game and like Ganking and griefing it’s likely to make them want to leave.

From the post I get it was to mitigate the impact such .

That said if it causes 1% of new players to leave the game that’s 1% too much and clear indication of a relationship between such negative behaviour and people leaving .

> I’m a classic example of this. As a new player, I was bored out of my mind, thinking about quitting the game, and regretting the time I had wasted. I had searched for PvP and could not find it. Just before I died, I remember thinking about what a stupid game this was, my ship was completely unfit and I was in lowsec and there was no danger whatsoever…

Well…I’ve never told this before to avoid embarrassment, but the time I got ganked as a noob I actually thought the Catalyst had arrived to _help_ me deal with the rats in the belt. I was that naive. Next think I knew I was getting that horrid ’ you are about to blow up’ sound. Welcome to EVE ! And I have not looked back since. Like you, I was also on the verge of leaving out of boredom.

I remember the first time I ever got ganked in my life. It had a huge impact on me. I learned what PvP was in the best way possible. A brutal and violent short moment of clarity. It was glorious. It gave me something to work toward and good example to follow.

Some few certainly leave because of ganking, but what game doesn’t see a few people ragequit over something they consider unfair (for some value of unfair)?

I’ve lost a few ships to fellow players over the years and most of them didn’t really say anything at all. A carrier blew me up in an event site (lowsec), just removing competition. Was it fair? Perhaps not, but if I hadn’t been so focused on the NPCs I would have noticed the carrier targeting me and had time to get out. It was just a tax on not paying attention. Guys gatecamping low or null don’t really bother speaking either, they’re busy counting kills. The pirates doing a suicide run on my (crappily fitted) cargo ship in highsec were just after free loot. They were quite cordial when I told them I hoped something shiny made it or their naughtiness was wasted. I just laughed at them asking for a “content fee”. Once exited a gate between two guys loading their guns and panicked, engaging both instead of trying to quietly slip away. After they blew me up they said they’d been about to fight each other. And the one pirate I happened to blow up during a mission run calmly told me I’d done right in turning to engage instead of running. Even tried to recruit me.

I don’t doubt there are gankers that spice up their kills by insulting people, but I haven’t met those. A nasty word after a ship loss isn’t making me quit anyway. More likely I’ll take a break if bored.

I disagree.

1% of players leaving is not a disaster and in fact, if 1% of players leave because they cannot handle getting ganked it might even be good that they realize early that EVE is not their kind of game.

That’s also the answer I’ve given in post #2 in this thread.

PvP in a PvP game is not ‘negative behaviour’, and if you don’t like the core gameplay of a game it’s not bad if you decide to play a different game instead. You don’t have to play EVE.

</div>

People quitting is actually a good thing, because it proves the game is challenging. I don’t want to play an easy boring game. I came to EvE because other players in another game were talking about how they quit EvE Online because it was too hard. That is what attracted me to this game in the first place.

</div>

To be clear 1% of players leaving due to finding the game too challenging isn’t bad.

1% of players leaving because someone decided to be jerk then mock them in a channel and on a website is 1% too many.

Players being forced out due to Griefing is a percentage too many regardless of what percentage that is .

> There already is a size-limit built into the game: Corp Member Numbers is limited by skills. We simply add a factor to this and a base-cost to set and maintain per member.

Yeah, I understood what you meant before the detailed explanation.

But I think there’s a further issue for old corps here. Many corps keep old members in the corp long after they have ceased being active, for sentimental reasons essentially.

Your new blueing costs would force them to purge members regularly to keep costs down, and I’m against that for sentimental reasons.

Likewise an alliance is always going to want at least 1 or 2 alt alliances, for haulers etc. even \<20man corps have this and we should be allowed at least 2-3 friends, no? Which gets us back to the 4-5 freebies/cheapos I mentioned in my previous post.

If you insist on it being a blanket charge then I doubt this idea will get enough support to be implemented. I would certainly oppose it.

</div>

I understand what you mean but I fear any amount of “free jokers” would be abused to circumvent the system. But we don’t nessessarily have to agree, it’s all purely hypothetical and not even on the table yet. And to be honest I absolutely doubt it will ever come. CCP/FC has a tendency to not adress the root problems but throw tons of bandaid on symptoms instead. And to a large degree they still don’t realize that their games growth has to come from the bottom of many thousands of smaller groups with a vision instead of hoping that a handful of big groups would be their game driver.

</div>

I’m keeping my dust 514 character inside of my corporation and Eve. The other cases for keeping a character would be very rare also. I don’t see this as a factor. The other reasons that alliances would hold alt alliances to cover up their activities would be the factor to think about.

They do this already though.

Alt corps and alliances in High sec to suicide gank when they get bored in null.

I believe goal is to persuade people in a high sec that null is safer and therefore it will make null interesting again.

As a GSF recruiter, I like to gank people and then suggest to them that it might be safer to mine in null. We get a lot of candidates this way.

There is much truth to all of this activity driving players straight into nullsack alliances from hisec. This is the intent of the mechanics. It turned hisec to a recruitment ground and passive tax gains.

Never worked on me tbh.

High sec market is too lucrative . Then again I’ve thicker skin .

In trying to “drive” players back to Null it’s plausible that it might just instead drive them away no ?

You dont listen very well. It isnt “plausable”. It is the design and intent of many decisions made by CCP previously to drive content to large alliances. They have recently began to walk with great celebration from all others.
